I don't know what happened but yesterday in the evening when I was detangling my hair I've noticed that my hair has gotten lighter suddenly... I have medium brown highlights all over my head and my hair looks more brown than black-brown like it usually is...
I asked my SO and even he noticed a significant amount of lightening.
I never go out in the sun because of my Light Urticaria so that's not from sun... The only thing I've changed is my shampoo... I use Pura D'Or now. Since 4 weeks...
It's no problem, it's a nice change to have lighter hair now... But WHY?

Maybe put the ingredients here, so we can have a look?

The ingredients are listed on amazon.com. I'm on my phone and can't copy a link to put it here... It doesn't work with my phone unfortunately...
It's mostly natural plant ingredients but maybe some of the plants are lightening for hair?
It's really, no kidding, quite a bit lighter. I'm in front of my mirror now and can't believe my eyes...

Random thought: did you start doing ACV rinses? Some people notice some lightening and/or reddening from those.

No. Nothing like this. No rinses, no new supplements, no new hair masks or leave-ins... Nothing. Only the shampoo...

Hormones? I know my hair has gotten a lot darker than it used to be, maybe the opposite can happen?

Here are the ingredients as listed on the product website :)

I'm no expert on what might be causing the lightening effect but perhaps someone with some knowledge can help out given the list below :)

I don't take hormones... And nothing changed regarding this...
It's SO strange...
But the good thing is... I like it. It suites me pretty well. :)

I :google: and found something... Willow Bark is a lightening ingredient... Used in many skin lightening products... Fights hyperpigmentation... So... maybe it lightens hair pigment too...

I always leave it on my hair for 3-5 minutes after shampooing to let the DHT blockers penetrate my scalp...

I didn't mean it like that. You don't have to take them for this to happen, hair can just lighten or darken on it's own due to a natural shift in hormones like during puberty or menopause. I have no idea how old your are so I thought I should mention it. My hair has been getting gradually darker as I get older. :blossom:

I'm not in puberty and not in menopause... I'm 41... Maybe other changes...? Don't know...

could be a shift in hormones, could be the new shampoo. At any rate, it's not the end of the world if you like it!

No... It's really okay :) But interesting to know why something like this happens so suddenly. A couple of months ago I've bought me clip-in-bangs in black-brown and they matched my hair exactly. Now they are too dark because of the highlights. If it's one of the shampoo ingredients it's good to find out as it could maybe be the new hair lightening ingredient instead of bleach... :)

The change in products (for example, shampoo) can definitely do that. It's more about how clarifying and chelating the formula is. For lighter colored hair (blonde, blonette, light brown, reds), many sorts of staining (from styling products, conditioners, oils, herbs, etc...) can show pretty easily, and a formula that can de-grease more effectively (higher concentration of anionic surfactants, for example) or remove, for example, iron (brassy) or copper (greenish-greyish) deposits from hair (chelating formulas) can given an effect of lighter hair, although it could have simply removed some dulling deposits, revealing lighter base.

Alternatively, do not discount sun-bleaching, even if you avoid the sun. Hair does get lighter in sunnier months, even if one uses hats and keeps hair bunned, especially if it's already pretty light... It doesn't necessarily take a lot of exposure to get some UV damage, since it's all about long term accumulation, as hair doesn't renew its cells on the surface, unlike skin, for example.

Wusel,

Just for you to know, D'Or in French means Of Gold. Are you sure it is not a lightening shampoo ?? I mean, a stuff meant to give golden highlights ?

No... It's an anti-hairloss shampoo with plant derived DHT blockers... The claims are that it stimulates the scalp and reduces hairloss...

Maybe the lemon oil.

Maybe the lemon oil.

Yes... As :google: told me there are at least 5 ingredients which are pigment lightening on skin and used in lightening face creams. So... Pigment is pigment... In skin and hair...

That's it, I think. Yes. It's recommended on the bottle to leave it on for 2 minutes. 5 minutes with these ingredients.... And I've discovered a new method to lighten hair... :cheer: :D

Outside of the new products have you used any olive oil or honey in your hair? I've heard they can lighten hair too. Just to clear other potential causes. That's exciting though, I love natural highlights maybe I should try that shampoo haha :o

No. It's absolutely only the shampoo. Left on for 5 minutes. Instead of the recommended 2. And a really significant lightening effect. :) I like it too. I never had lighter hair. Always virgin black-brown.

It might dry your hair out over time though, if you are determined to keep using it for 5 min., for lightening. Keep that in mind. :flower:

Yes... I know... I was thinking about this too... I didn't notice any drying yet...
