Does anyone have links to instructions for different single hairstick buns? I have searched high an low and keep running into dead links, or people posting photos but refusing to link to any tutorials. :(

Have you tried the lazy wrap bun? It's pretty much the only one I use. There is also the disc bun and the chinese bun.

OK, my first post got eaten by my device, so I'm going to pop in and out editing this to add more. But check YouTube if someone didn't link a tutorial - you can find a lot of them there if you look.

Celtic knots hold well with one stick. https://youtu.be/fOOCbqBQw3Q
So do lazy wrap buns. https://youtu.be/b3LWSGiDBbk
And infinity buns. https://youtu.be/s4IZjosmZg4

I may have to make a lazy infinity bun tutorial sometime, since I'm having a heck of a time finding a video that wraps them the way I do, which is way easier than unfolding a beebutt bun. Edit: Ha, Spirals found one, and WSL beat me to making it! Just as well, blond hair makes for more visible tutorials, I think.

LHC has a What's your favorite single hair-stick bun? (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=55128&page=13&p=3119881&viewfull=1#post3119881) thread :)

Doing a search on LHC or youtube will bring you to a tutorial.

The nautilus bun is very popular. Youtube has a lot of videos, many by LHC'ers.

The L stands for lazy? Mind blown. Always wondered what it meant. L-infinity is so comfy!

It's because as you make the bun your hand is in an L shape, more or less. It's opposed to the make a bee butt and flip the top coil over method, which doesn't work for thick hair with a lot of taper. (I end up with a heavy side and a light side of the bun and it looks weird.)

My current favorites are:

Double-loop LWB-like structures (I always start with a braid):

- (Braided) L-Infinity bun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fzn4gNWIVQ
- (Braided) Spidermom's bun (double-loop bun): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCvC_MU0To8
- Chameleon bun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr1gwxHBgRM

Other buns:
- (Braided) LWB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DKLqSQWZos (and LWB modified for long hair: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNK0EPX7G1Q and variation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08Sqx1uuCdE)
- French Pinless Bun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrlkGLzboHE

There are lots of other single-stick buns to experiment with, for example:

Yep. It came out a few years ago as an alternate, easier way to form it than the wrap-and-flip method that you can see in the video I linked. I think it tends to balance better, too. I'm not sure when it started getting shortened to L-infinity -- seems like it's only been in the past 2 years or so.

^ I always thought the "L" is about the way fingers are held in that shape or maybe "lazy" because it's pretty easy to do (once there is enough length). I could never get Infinity/Figure 8 bun to form or stay (I think my hair is too thick for that bun), and I think these 2 buns are very different in topology, only their end results looks visibly similar, but they are pretty different buns. :)
I've also seen L-Infinity being referred to as the "Mirrored Spidermom's Bun" (here's a great video with a stick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llpyxs6d4o0 and fork: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XqC7LYOqzhE).

There is also Alternate L-Infinity (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrEha6RhvxA), changing direction and order in which the wrapping is done. I think I've seen a video with neko_kawaii doing something similar, but I think this video was somewhere on the LHC, I can't find it on YT, unfortunately :hmm:...

And Double-Wrapped L-Infinity (for added stability for extra long hair): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3EcIu22znA

Cool thread! Now I know how to make the Disc bun (need to do a little looser next time, though)! I've made a note of all these links.
