I've been thinking about cosplaying Queen Elinor, from Brave, but my hair is nowhere near long enough. Does anyone know of a way (outside of extensions, because I don't want to use those, or a wig, because I have no idea where to even begin with those) to make my hair appear longer and rhicker? Her hair is easily calf-length, dark, and ridiculously thick. I know it's a cartoon, but I'd like to make my hair look as close to hers as possible.

Below is a picture of the hairstyle I'd be attempting. She has her hair split into two of those massive...not braids, more like hair bound with cord.

How about a paranda? you could try that fluffy type stuff that they use for fake dreadlocks, can't think what it is called now.

I second a paranda. You could also try to make it with fake hair that matches your hair color. But at that length and thickness I imagine it would be expensive and maybe heavy.

Apparently your link is a DANGEROUS SITE - it blocked me :uhh:. In any case, I can't help with the length/thickness, but if you want to see the same style on real (not cartoon) hair, Loepsie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVPbFA72ZLE)has a video.

Here (https://adamselindisdress.wordpress.com/2014/04/28/12th-century-dress-the-bliaut/), horse-hair extensions are noted as being period-correct.

Maybe you could use Kanekalon hair (http://g01.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1xsTuHVXXXXX1XXXXq6xXFXXX7/Synthetic-hair-top-quality-two-toned-ombre-kanekalon-jumbo-braids-hair-Xpression-Blue-Braiding-Hair.jpg) in the color you need or so-called braiding hair (http://image.samsbeauty.com/common/productimages/ESHBESSJ/B_Alicia_Essence_Kanekalon1_500.jpg)? It has no clips or other potentially damaging items, it's affordable, synthetic and much lighter than natural hair would be. It would be pretty convenient for making a hair-paranda with or simply adding it to your hair and then wrapping it with a string of suede or leather/ribbon/piece of string...

For the wrapping motion, I'm pretty sure it's just a criss-cross: tie ribbon at the top, leaving 2 ends, then wrap 2 ends around length from opposite directions.
Or you could use just 1 long end to wrap the ribbon down and then go up the length in the opposite direction, creating that criss-cross look.
Alternatively, you could fold the ribbon in 2 and English-braid the length with hair as one strand and the 2 ends of the ribbon as 2 other strands.
