Hi everyone :)
So a few years back, I bought a glass octopus hairstick from EmergentGlassworks on etsy. I loved it, and it was perfect in my thick hip-length hair at the time. Then someone convinced me to cut my hair and I didn't have enough hair for it any more. Cue a year or two later and I had enough hair again, but shortly after, medication my doctor started me on (and the mini pill I was on at the same time) caused a massive shed in which I lost around 45% of my hair (which is part of the reason I've not been here on the Mane Forum much these past couple of years)
About a year ago, my doctor finally took me off the worst of the meds, and a few months back I came off the mini-pill too. My hair has thankfully been growing back in since the mega-shed, and while it's not quite back to where it was before all this, my ponytail is finally a iii again.
So, I've discovered I can wear the stick again, but it doesn't feel all that secure like it used to. I think because, although I'm at classic now, most of my thickness is hovering somewhere around waist, and because, being glass, it's heavy and needs more hair to hold it. Lazy wraps just don't work, and both a cinnabun and my regular day-to-day nautilus pull in weird spots that they never did before.
So I'm looking for sturdy buns to hold it until the rest of my thickness grows down. I've found a pretzel bun on wet hair works, but it slides down sideways on a dry one.

I find the Sidermom's Bun to be reliable. You might also try Shells Everyday bun, probably have to search her blog for the tutorial.

Maybe buns where you have to wrap your hair around the stick? The "Pha bun" is hairstyle of the month on that thread now, or a pin less braided bun or Chinese bun might be more secure.

So, thus far, Spidermom's bun works, and a chinese bun works. :)
The Pha bun felt top heavy, and like it might start sliding down and pulling if its like that the whole day. I had a look in the blog, but couldnt find Shell's every day bun.

Sorry to hear about the meds & shedding, but I'm so happy that your thickness is already back and travelling down swiftly, tigereye! :cheer:

If Spidermom's bun works, and so does Chinese bun, I'd recommend also checking out the L-Infinity Bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2fzn4gNWIVQ), the Disc Bun, the Chameleon Bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr1gwxHBgRM) - basically things that create those double/multiple loops and that wrapping action.

I'd also recommend checking out all sorts of braided buns, I find that they hold much better than their non-braided cousins: e.g. Dutch/French braided tuck, simplified Ellingwoman braided bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_biroGTJ7A) (which holds almost by itself and the stick is really likely to stay in since it goes through the small braid at the base and the braided bun) or a variation of it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9W-kbWPSfQ), braided LWB, braided L-infinity, braided cinnabun, braided Spidermom's bun, etc...

And it might be worth checking out the Knot bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiGTXkUhFKE) and Celtic Knot bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oTWCYj6ulE), as well.

If nothing holds with one stick alone, you might need to add a claw-clip or a U-pin at the end of wrapping around the bun.

Have you tried braided buns (perhaps even with some extra bobby pins)? I've found that they hold better, though I have less experience with using one stick rather than two
