Hey all! So I'm looking to try out a new shampoo/conditioner as I've tried nearly every LiveClean and Herbal Essences product on the market. I keep seeing ads for this new Garnier line called "Whole Blends." My local Walmart (as well as my workplace, yay for discounts!) has a display for the line, which adds to my curiosity. Has anyone else heard of or tried this line yet? And if so, how did you like it? It is paraben free, but not sulfate free (checked the ingredients on the bottle)

I haven't seen these in BC yet, looks like something I'd like to try as long as the fragrances aren't too strong. Looking at the ingredients, their formulations look similar to the other Garnier/ l'oreal products. The packaging looks cute!

They are more or less the same as ones sold under the names of Garnier Ultra Doux and Garnier Response in European countries (what's up with those silly name games?) I just mention whis if you want to search the forums, so more hits would come up.

For what it's worth, I have tried the honey deep treatment, but it has too strong smell and it gives me headaches because of that. My hair didn't like it either (it felt proteiny, although I only saw one ingredient low on the list that possibly had some proteins).

Then I've tried 5 plants conditioner, the normal one, and that was fine but nothing special, nice for a change. Does not give as much slip as my normal conditioner does, but is moisturizing enough for me, no proteins, no silicone, no too strong smells.

Yes it is the same as "Ultra Doux" in Belgium/France, same as "Loving Blends" in The Netherlands. It is a great line.

Is it the same as the Ultimate blends sold in the UK? Most of those conditioners are silicone free (I don't use shampoo so can't comment on them)
I really like the Ultimate blends The sleek restorer conditioner as a CO wash

I can get it to my head, why they have so many names. It's probably safe to assume the ingredients might be slightly different, and adjusted to the water type and common hair types (and what else?) of each marketing areas, but basically probably they are same products.

Yep, same. Maybe we should put the names together in the first post so we'll know what location has what name.

Ultra Suave in Portugal...

Has anyone tried their latest line, the one with oat milk and rice cream (http://garwwcetraining.e-loreal.com/hair-care/beauty/ultra-doux/oat-milk-delicacy/soothing-gentle-shampoo)?

I just days ago purchased the Mythic Olive Intense Mask. Wait and see how that fares for me. I have been swimming a lot, and the hair suffers from that. I still have the peach and nut leaf OOOOOLLLLDDD mask, but that stock is running low so I have been looking for a replacement. Wait and see if this olive oil can live up to the task.

Amazing! Free stuff. Yay. :) I do hope it's not a foil packet, though. Because that amount, on long hair? But maybe you could still use it as a leave-in or something like that.

Yep, I've got it. I bought it just as I finished the one with argan oil and cranberry (which I liked very much).

It's ok, I wouldn't describe it as a rich conditioner, it's quite light, not as nourishing as some others in the Garnier Ultra Doux/Ultimate Blends/etc lines, but I like it. It doesn't beat my favourite conditioner of these Garnier lines, which is the one with honey, propolis and royal jelly (Honey Treasures), I love that one.

I'm curious to know if anyone tried the conditioner from the Mythic Olive line?

I have the conditioner! :) My mom found it in my stash when looking for the Lidl conditioner. Since eadwine had tried out the mask and was quite pleased, mom pulled it out for me. I first am going to try the Cien/Lidl conditioner for dry, damaged hair, tough, as promised on the Aldi/Lidl thread. But that might be what I try next.

I want to try one of these conditioners but the presence of isopropyl alcohol worries me. It's about mid-way down the ingredients list so I'm not sure if it's a drying amount or not...

Yes... We have the Wahre Schätze stuff here but I'm not impressed by the ingredients. The bottles look like there's something very special inside but the ingredients are not much different from regular shampoos like Panthene or Schwarzkopf, just some honey extracts, oils or fruit extracts added. Kinda boring blah in a cute bottle.

They are a little milder in their formulations than a Pantene or HE, though. I can tell you that. I feel that on my scalp. The shampoos at least. Pantene & HE both have SLS & SLES. These shampoos have only SLES and CB, I think. Their clay formulation has a different sulfate altogether.

Okay, good to know :) As my scalp gets irritated easily by Panthene. I thought there's no difference in scalp effect.

You can only try. It's only *slightly* milder, though, so if you are bothered by sulfates, this is not a good choice either.

I generally like the "Ultra Doux" line, or how it's called here. I especially like the new clay shampoo, and could even stretch one more day if I wanted to, but obviously I don't do that because of my SD. I would recommend the clay one to any oily scalps out there, though!

No it's not going to do that. It's a nice refreshing shampoo, IMO. Only used it twice, I think, so far, and I love it! I only have two bottles, though, so I'm using it sparingly.

I'm using the delicate oat at the minute, it's for sensitive scalp and fragile hair and I've got both!! I like it, it leaves my hAir feeling soft. My scalp feels loads better too.

I also purchased the green mythic olive but I haven't tried that yet.

How do you decide which conditioner to use first?

I always use my HE Hello Hydration as the 2nd conditioner, because that's my HG and I haven't found anything more moisturizing and detangling than that (although the Aldi & Lidl conditioner I have do come close right now & the Franck Provost one for dry, damaged hair is kind of the same as well). I use my heaviest conditioner last. :)

From my blog:

"I like the mythic olive as a 1st C, but it might be a little too rich for that, as said above. I always keep my more moisturizing conditioners for last, so I think I'll use it up as a 2nd C next, if there's much left (it's only a measly 200ml). But, in a nutshell: I *love* it. Would I buy it again? Yes. On sale. Not for 3/4 euro. If not, the Lidl and Aldi conditioners I tested of late are equally as nice and not *that* much behind this! By a little more than a fraction, I'd say. And the cost of those is a fraction as well. As you guys know, I am big on budgetting, and on a budget."

It was a little "much" for a first C. Quite moisturizing. This could replace my HG the HE Hello Hydration NO problem. It is that good. But so could the Aldi and Lidl conditioner I used in the last weeks. They are not much behind.

Yes, this is one of my favourite brands of conditioner :) I've use it on an off for years and always come back to it. In Sweden it's called Respons.

The avocado is cone free (if I'm right?) and still quite mosturizing to a good price. And the avocado schampoo I think is cone free also?

The honey conditioner is a love at first sight (at first wash?) for my hair and it doesn't seem that super heavy on the cones correct me if I'm wrong.

And then there's the argan oil which seems a bit more heavy I think and which salvaged my bleach damaged ends for quite some time, as a leave in, before I chopped them off in dec.

Still got to try their olive oil conditioner, intrigued!

And then there's the "regular" schampo and conditioner. The schampoo I think is cone free, but the conditioner has cones I think?

And chamomile conditioner is cone free, but a bit light when one has bleach damaged hair (ooops), but nice as a first conditioner I think, or for CO wash. And that schampoo is cone free as well! And it smells lovely imo.

:) I'm using the honey conditioner right now as a second conditioner, and sometimes as a leave in. I love the smell. And best friend/partner/whatever loves the smell too :D

I also have a chamomile schampoo, a "regular" schampoo, a maroccan oil and a chamomile conditioner sittting in the bathroom... Soon to be used as well again! (In the unlikely circumstances anyone is interested what I stock in my bathroom cabinets haha) Off to bed :)

ETA: I think I'll just start using the regular schampoo and conditioner when these are used up... They smell so nice as well!!

I'm living in the Netherlands at the moment and it's called Loving Blends here. They have a limited range available (much less than in France) and it's not available in my local supermarket, so if I want to test one of these I'll have to buy it when I'm in France.

I used Garnier Ultra Doux shampoos and conditioners when I was a teen (I lived in France back then). I tried several different ones but I remember the henna and blackberry vinegar shampoo being my favourite, although at the time I wasn't as aware of the effects products had on my hair. I'd be curious to try it again and see if my hair still likes it. I remember it smelling divine.

I'll finish my current shampoo before I experiment with anything new (I'm giving it a bit more time to decide what I think of it) but Ultra Doux is one of the options I'm considering for my next buy. I'm interested in trying the delicate oat shampoo in particular, because my scalp is sensitive at the moment (I know Lapushka, I'll have it checked out by a doctor asap ;) ).

The honey and olive oil conditioners seem to get good reviews here, so I'm interested in those too. They're both relatively new so I didn't try them back in the day.

Has anyone tried the argan and camellia oil or the coconut oil and cocoa butter ranges?

I remember having disastrously greasy hair after washing with the avocado oil and shea butter shampoo, so that one's not for a good fit for me.

I used the argan and camellia oil one today. I'd say it's pretty heavy but it really helps me have soft and non-tangly hair. I used to use it as a leave in all the time on my old bleached ends and it saved them for quite some time. I'd say it's great for detangling and slip. But we're all different in what works ;)

I used the honey shampoo and conditioner for a while when they came out here. I don't remember much of them. This thread has nearly convinced me I should try again.

Whenever I went to Belgium/Luxembourg/Germany I always stocked up on the Ultra Doux conditioners. I liked them very much! In the meanwhile my hair is a tad longer (hip vs bsl) and needs more moisturizing than the honey version gave me.

Shame I'm already hoarding four other different conditioners.

I was just so excited to see the line arrive in the US bc I has seen so many French youtubers raving about the line (yes I can read/speak French)...

We don't have the Olive Oil line here, and some of the others you all mentioned. I hope they send the entire line over bc it's definitely a relief from all these other shampoos and conditioners that all smell exactly the same. :(

I got the clay shampoo, the Argan & Camellia oil mask and the Olive Oil mask for 50% off. The masks were €3, the shampoo was around €1.75.

I used the shampoo and the olive oil mask in the shower today, just a normal S/C.
The shampoo is very creamy with a lovely mild scent that doesn't linger. I shampooed and rinsed once. It rinsed clean very quickly. I got some of it on my forehead and it completely dried out my skin though. Next time I'll be more careful.

I followed with a good sized goop of mask. The mask itself is very nice and thick. It's easy to spread evenly though the hair and left me with a very nice seaweed feeling. That's the feeling I'm always looking for, since it usually means my hair is going to look good when it's dry. The scent reminds me of lemonade, not a fresh summer's day lemonade.. but more of the dregs left in the warmed jar left after a nice summer's day. It's not very strong fortunately.

My hair's still drying at the moment so I can't tell if I like it just yet. I had also pre-oiled my hair with coconut oil so that might skew the first results a little.

Overall first impression: Nice.

I used the mythic olive as a 1st conditioner on one occasion, and as a 2nd conditioner on another (today) and I have to say, this is a *very* moisturizing conditioner & an awesome detangler. It can fully replace my HE Hello Hydration and might even be a tad more moisturizing. :D I will buy this as a replacement when it is on sale and priced lower than the HE one (which I somehow doubt).

I looked for it this morning, at both Walmart and Walgreens. Nope. Not there yet. I'm anxious to try it. I am in love with their commercials on TV. They remind me of the advertising for Long and Silky back in the 70s. That, alone, is enough to get me to try it. I have no issues with parabens, cones, or sulphates.

These are everywhere where I live now. Unfortunately I don't like any of the scents except for the green apple & tea one. The pomegranate smells okay, but the formulas look to be too heavy for my hair. The cocoa butter, avocado, coconut milk & vanilla and honey formulas are all heavily perfumed in a modern day "complex" sort of a way. happyhair87, I loved the 70s from what I remember of them :). I was a child of the 70s & 80s, and these don't have that linear, fruity freshness that the scents from back then used to have. What a bummer :(

Not sure, I strongly suspect the European formulas are scented differently. The lavender rose formula you guys have is really nice. Maybe I just didn't like any of the scents, but they are definitely strong, much like our Herbal Essences scents (which are also strongly scented, so you really have to like the scent because it clings to the hair).

I generally don't have many scents that bother me. But the shampoo from Aldi that is in the pink bottle (Kyrell) (only in Belgium, I think) does have a strong smell. Kind of a *very* strong marzipany scent. The conditioner is the same, but milder. I do have to "adapt" to that scent, and have never had that happen before that there is a scent I don't particularly like much. But that shampoo does that to me. And I generally *love* Aldi goodies. So darn. :( I am going to use up the bottle, though. Nothing goes to waste here!

Marzipan...that actually sounds nice! One of these days I have to get myself to Aldi's to see what we have in the states.

The strongest scents that I can recall is one of the Beauticurls conditioners, which smells like iris, and Shea Moisture Yucca Baobab, which smells like honeysuckle. Both smell sooooo strong, people ask what perfume you are wearing, and you can still smell them after washing hair with a different shampoo. Yikes! Unfortunately I did not like either scent. I do like Finesse, which is strong, and the Herbal Essences pink retro one. Also Body Envy has been changed, it smells like oranges now. Those are strong, but I like them.

I did check the Garnier USA website and the reviews of the Whole Blends have been mostly positive. Lot of reviews for the coconut oil & cocoa butter, avocado and honey formulas. They must have been giving those away for people to try or something, there's a ton of reviews.

I've been using the Avocado and Shea shampoo and conditioner off and on for two weeks, I think. My hair seems to like them quite well. My waves are sticking around, despite the fact that I brush them out to bun and don't use any styling products to keep them around. I do rotate my products but I've been favouring these since I got them. The conditioner is a titch heavy for my oily self so I've adapted to just use it on the very tips as my second conditioner and I use one of my HE hoard as the first conditioner and conditioner from the ears down with that one. This seems to work, and allows me to wash every 3 days. Any more than that and the scalp is fussy jerk.

I bought the green apple & green tea conditioner and used it for my last wash. It made my hair very soft, shiny and super slippery... it isn't the most moisturizing but that's fine since it's not supposed to be. I think this will be a good light conditioner to use for times when I just want my hair to be more "bouncy" and not weighed down. Now I really want to try the others but I have enough products stashed already :p

I tried the honey conditioner, deep conditioner and the shampoo. The shampoo I found extra drying. The deep conditioner was nothing of the sort and the regular conditioner left no slip and my hair was so sad. Major waste of money for me. I love herbal essences for life I think. I have dry coarse hair.

I don't think we get the Ultra Doux Shampoo here (I've seen some Ultra Doux nourishing hair oil though?). We get a bunch of other Garnier stuff, and in shampoos it's mostly the Fructis line. I used them for a while when I was younger - made my hair VERY tangly.

I'm going to be trying the Honey version of the Garnier (Whole Blends, Loving Blends, Ultra Doux, Ultra Dolce, ...) this Sunday as a 2nd conditioner in my routine (WCC). I am expecting it to be as moisturizing as the mythic olive (that one is spectacular).

I tried the mythic olive & the honey conditioner both now. I can definitely say that the mythic olive is a *magical* conditioner, *very* nourishing, and even better than a mask would be! Have repurchased and finished a bottle already!

The honey one has a very fake, strong scent, quite overpowering. Nothing that I can't move past, not for the few uses that I have left, at least. It also is a bit less nourishing, so for those with easily weighed down hair, this might be more to your liking.

They are still on the more nourishing side of things, if they can detangle my hair without too many hiccups. A few tiny tangles with the honey. 0 tangling with the mythic olive!

It comes out almost like toothpaste, aaalmost. In thick coils, you really have to squeeze the bottle. It's even better than most of the masks I have ever tried. And that is saying a lot. It can replace my HE Hello Hydration as a 2nd conditioner. Definitely. It's even a smidge better than that, and I don't say that lightly.

^ I really dislike these conditioner bottles! It's true, you really have to squeeze the bottle and I wish the bottles were also bigger (at least 300 ml). Honestly, I haven't had much luck with these products but I do like the Mythic Olive conditioner and the mother of pearl & cherry comes close second.

The olive oil conditioner makes the hair smoother than the jar mask, in my experience. I have to be careful because I have such slippery hair, when I use the conditioner I have to make sure that I am not going to be wearing special updos, because that is a nightmare to put in

I wish they would have made round bottles, MUCH easier to squeeze the product out of. As far as the amount, that doesn't matter which of the two it is, I goop both ;)

Remember me, complaining about the "fake" smell of the honey conditioner. Scratch that. It is a scent that may smell fake when you apply it, it absolutely doesn't when it's in your hair, and *boy* does it linger in your hair. I have never had *any* conditioner or shampoo linger in my hair as long as this. It is now Tuesday, was washed Sunday and I can still smell it on there. Wow. I'd say it might be worth it to get after all. :D Maybe not as plentiful (;)) as the mythic olive one, but still. It is worth it for the lingering scent!

I was eyeing these in the store today, moments after I found out (very belatedly!) that the Tresemme Naturals conditioner had been discontinued. Anyone whose hair liked/likes that Naturals line have any experience trying out these? I am eyeing the Coconut Water & Vanilla one, as well as the Avocado & Shea. Shea is often too heavy for my hair, but I loved how my hair responded to the avocado oil in the Tresemme line, so maybe it's worth a shot! And I like that lots of these seem to have aloe, which my hair responds well to.

Hmmmmm....

If you don't have particularly oily hair, it should be fine. It is a heavily moisturizing shampoo, though, so best suited for dryer skins.

I never try the same shampoo from the same conditioner. Because my scalp needs one thing (heavy cleaning) and my lengths another (heavy moisturizing).

Hope you like it, though! :D

I just got out of the shower after using the Honey one. It's okay I guess. I didn't really have any expectations for it. It feels like any other conditioner to me. It didn't out-perform anything else I've used. It felt fine in my hair. It was easy to incorporate in. Didn't feel super moisturizing, just normal. Maybe when my hair is dry, it will be different, but as of right now, I'm "meh" for how it works.

As for smell...in store, I couldn't tell any difference between the scents, and they all smelt very faint to me. Once I got it home and used it, it was stronger. It smells like what you'd expect. It's sweet, a tad on the heavy side, but not overwhelming. Would I buy it again? No. For not doing anything special, I'd rather pick something out that had a scent I liked better.

I'm sort of in a rut for conditioners right now. I'm not happy with any of the ones I own right now....I need to stop trying new ones until they're all gone. Lol.

In Belgium shampoo sizes for bottles are typically 250 ml, and conditioners used to be 250 ml, but are now 200 ml. Why! Why? This is across the board for all brands, mind you! The only larger bottles they do is from the brand Franck Provost and from Syoss.

Then I see a 650ml bottle of Whole Blends shampoo and I think... why the heck don't they do that here?

The honey one left my hair so straight, it took out a lot of wave, it is very smooth and soft. The smell is great at first for like the first 2 days but now my hair smells like my faint tresemme conditioner I use for CO. So the tresemme smell still outlasts everything I put on it afterwards. I wouldn't buy this again only cuz of the cone but if it didn't have cones i'd replace my tresemme with it.

I don't know; they charge $6 for the big Whole Blends shampoo, I think. So not too expensive, considering the amount you get and that you have to pay between €2-4 for a small bottle anyway.

Well there's Franck Provost & Syoss in Belgium kind of doing this. People go nuts over the bigger containers. Especially the dry, damaged hair conditioner by Provost is a winner! That is comparable to the smaller bottles of the "big brands", price wise. That is what I mean.. what would a bottle of GWB of that size cost? Much more than this I think, and that is what I mean with the high price and pricing themselves out of the market then when all that it can be compared to is the little ones that cost less.

I am not explaining this right I think. It is not a matter of how much bang for the buck in this case, it is a matter of how far is this big bottle then sticking its head out above the cornfield. Too much and people go EWW that thing is expensive if there is nothing similarly priced near it.

You could say that. ;) It's all about the price per liter in the end. It is often cheaper in a bigger bottle, and I wouldn't have to stock up so much. ;) Not that there'll be a shortage of hair stuff here any time soon. :p

I know it is all about that, but that is not my point I am trying to make.

For selling things, in the store, imagine an isle with all small bottles, all priced around 4. A normal customer (not us ;) ) is not going to get the one sole big bottle which is priced at 8. It looks more expensive than everything else, so they are likely not going to grab that, even though it is better value for money indeed. They mostly just look at the price of something and that's it.

That is what I am trying to say. I give up otherwise hahahahah!! :)

lapushka
June 24th, 2016, 06:48 AM
LOL, I think more people than you think look at the price per liter, per ounce, per kg. ;) It's often marked in the store as well what that price is, so it's easy to make comparisons. My mom even does it with toilet paper. LOL.

EU is a different market. I don't know how they come up with how they are going to sell things. Maybe it is because in the US you have to drive a little more that they think people need bigger containers of things, to last them longer. I mean even milk over there comes in *huge* bottles. And here we are with our 1L tetraBRIKs LOL! Well, milk in smaller packages I get (keeps fresher better). But somehow I don't get it for shampoo & conditioner. :p

eadwine
June 24th, 2016, 07:10 AM
Well .. in my experience, and I have been over there a few times, the US that is.. normal size families, two parents with two kids, and they just go through the stuff faster than we do even. Where we drink a liter they drink a gallon. The amount eaten is also a lot more, so.. I don't think it is that but more the larger quantities consumed per person. At least what I saw when I was there. *shrug*

I look at the price per liter as well. And price per roll on TP, yep, guilty. But you have to when you're on a low income. It's the same with clothes.. I will NEVER pay 25 euros for a tshirt UNLESS there is something -really- special about said tshirt. You can yap at me all day about the quality of more expensive things and how they last longer, but I don't care. I don't have the money for that!

I would buy a bigger bottle of my shampoo if it saved me money, sure. I get my laundry detergent from Action. You know those HUGE bottles for real cheap? They last me a LONG time. There IS a "best by" kind of date on the bottles, remember that jar with the number in it on make up products? Maybe the same goes for poo and dish?

I'm with you on a lot of these things! Oh, the expiry date. The bottles of shampoo that I have been using up lately? That old Nivea bottle (they don't make anymore) and that old Dove bottle (they don't make anymore), *years* old, at least a decade. The consistency was fine, it smelled fine. I used it up! So... it lasts, as long as it's not a natural product, it lasts. And this Sunday, I'm starting another 2 bottles that are part of the oldest in my collection, also Nivea (they don't make anymore). I don't know about more recent products, though, where they leave out the parabens and other preservative related ingredients and swap them out for other, newer ones. But we haven't reached that far (in my stash) yet. ;)

ooo
June 24th, 2016, 03:02 PM
Whether they sell a 300ml bottle or a 600ml the production costs are not much higher. Lot's of different things (rent, labour, taxes, logistics, etc) factor into the cost of a product. In the end a product is always worth as much as people are willing to pay for it. While on one market a product might be marketed as extra super fancy more expensive in small bottles, it might be offered for less money in bigger bottles on an other market. I know, I'm making this way to easy, then again I'm no microeconomist.

Okay, so I used the one minute treatment this morning. When I rinsed it off my hair felt soft and smooth without the feeling silicones give you if you know what I mean. After drying my hair looks and feels like it always does. It's soft and slippery, but when I dry it straight (no heat, just the odd brush), this is what it feels like anyway. If there is any difference, and it is a might, is that my fly aways could be more fly away. I'm not sure if this product is heavy enough for my hair.

Of course, used regularly the benefits could build up, but from a one off treatment it doesn't seem to have done anymore than my usual conditioner.

Wow, I just bought the nourishing conditioner and used it and I have to say, I'm impressed. My hair doesn't tolerate regular dimethicone at all. It ends up feeling very coated after using dimethicone heavy conditioners. I guess my hair doesn't mind amodimethicones nearly as much, since my hair doesn't feel weighed down at all. I was also worried it wouldn't wash out of my hair well because of how thick the conditioner is, but my hair doesn't feel coated at all. The fragrances in it still bother my allergies like most hair products do, but at least it made my hair feel great. I think I'll continue using it along with my inecto naturals shampoo (it has SLS, but it's watered down).

I can't wait to try using this in a SMT.

Aah, Ultra Doux--my savior! On our honeymoon in France last year, I actually thought I could survive on disgusting hotel shampoo for almost two weeks.

Ha. Right.

I waited it out longer than I should have--my hair is probably still paying for my sins!--but finally I said to my husband, "Even if I don't have room to pack up what's left and have to throw out the remainder when we leave, I MUST have real shampoo and conditioner!" Thank heaven the little grocery down the street in Paris stocked some lovely moisturizing shampoos and conditioners from the Ulta Doux line. I saw "Garnier," and I knew I was saved!

I use the mask. I have tried both mask and conditioner and conditioner makes it TOO slippy hahaha.

I don't care about the cones, before I was a "hair person" I used cones as well and there was never an issue. I use the shampoo along with it as well, washing only once a week is enough for me. But wow does that stuff work wonders :D

I have sensitive skin on my back but this one doesn't seem to bother me. I had a bad flare up the other day but I'd got coconut oil on it. I'm not sure about protein content, as I'm not at home.

I don't like the honey products, but my hair doesn't appreciate any honey especially real honey. It makes my hair feel yuck.

You could have and intolerance towards coconuts by the way. I used to get tiny red bumps on my face when I use coconut oil on it for a day or two, after doing a health check for other reasons I found out that I have a mild intolerance towards it.

Yeah I probably do, although it only effects the top 1/3 of my back. That part of my body doesn't like much to be honest lol. There's so many things that set it off I don't even try to pinpoint anything, I can with coconut oil because it's a single ingredient. Those little red bumps are soooo itchy lol. The doctor gives me hydrocortisone cream for flare ups.

I am talking about the bottle with the small cap on the left side of the picture. It is a conditioner it said, no rinsing it out just leave it in. Good for the ends.

I searched this thread but I guess I am either a goof haha or it just hasn't been mentioned yet. Does anyone use this particular leave in?

As much as I wish I could get into this line... A lot of the products wouldn't work for me. The moisturizing products are all coconut scented (I hate the smell of coconut), honey doesn't work for my hair, I don't need something for color treated hair.... etc

I was sniffing the Avocado one (Nourishing, I believe) and it was okay smelling. I also was looking at the Green Apple one, but I wasn't exactly sure what they mean by "Refreshing". Does anyone have experience with those two?

Normally it is indicated on the bottle (here it is) what type of hair it is for. I think the green apple might be for oilier hair types.

I am currently using the Green Apple one. I do mostly only CO, but do occasionally do the shampoo. I use a cone-free conditioner for the first rinse and then the WB conditioner as my final rinse. I love it so far. My hair is not particularly oily or dry at this point, but this conditioner is great and keeps my hair really moisturized.

The olive one is 10x better than the avocado one, on par with my old faithful the HE Hello Hydration. In my country the avocado one is an old one, and does not have silicones, and that's what made it about as nourishing as the old Inecto coconut for me; not that moisturizing at all.

I don't know if the formula is the same, though!

Nope, not me. It's probably a good leave-in though, seeing as the conditioner is so moisturizing. But it's going to be the same (about) as that got2b leave-in cream (have you used that one up already?).

I do have to say, any leave-in is a leave-in to me. I don't notice much difference from one to the next. I have tried:

- Hegron
- Andrelon curl one
- got2b
- Kruidvat own brand

All the same to me, so far. I'm about to try the Hema own brand (UV protection) one this Sunday, with the Eco Custard on top.

If you get a chance, try it, tell us your experiences. Someone has to be the guinea pig. ;) :p

Any second thoughts?

I have tried quite a few of these, and am loving this brand! The honey and coconut\cocoa ones are definitely my favorites on my dry, frizzy hair. Makes it very smooth and shiny. I would love to try the olive and oat lines someday, hopefully they will bring them to the US.

My biggest worry with loving these products is how quickly Garnier likes to change or discontinue products. I used to love Triple Nutrition, but when they changed it, it no longer worked for me.

Yes, but Garnier Ultra Doux / Loving/Ultimate/Whole Blends have been around (as Ultra Doux) in this country (Belgium) for *years*. For years the bottles were the same. Sure some products were discontinued along the years, but it's been here for over 2 decades now, so... in that time a few products can change. But they're pretty stable around these parts, I'm glad to say. It will also all depend on how successful the line is over there (The Netherlands/UK/US).

Not all of them do. In BE at least the avocado conditioner didn't have silicones (which is why it wasn't all that nourishing for me). And also there was a famous hair mask in BE years ago (discontinued), that was *super* nourishing and did not have silicones. It was the peach & nutoil mask. Let's see if I can find an image... nope. On the subject of Whole Blends conditioners having cones (at least in the US), they only have amodimethicone, which is probably the lightest cone I've ever used. The effect on my hair is very similar to going cone-free. Even the "Nourishing" avocado one isn't too heavy for my buildup-prone hair. I would definitely give it a try.

I got the honey conditioner and so far I like it. It is so creamy and thick and a small amount spreads out really well, though I still tend to just gob a huge handful because my hair tangles so easily. I really, really want to try the honey shampoo but once when I put a honey+oil treatment on my hair I put a little on my scalp and noticed my shedding increased a little. Maybe it was my imagination. Should I give it a go? Or should I try one of the others and if I try one of the others which one? I can't decide. I have lingered in the aisle smelling and looking over each one and I can't decide which one to get. I use cones because it keeps the slip in my hair and helps with tangles. For some reason my hair tends to get dry easily, idk why, I use a good leave in that I like and the Whole Blends Smoothing Oil Coconut Oil and Cocoa Butter and I like it, it is light enough that it doesn't leave build-up and a little goes a long way. Sorry for rambling but maybe one of you fine ladies can recommend one of the shampoos based on that.

I bought the mythic olive conditioner (normal, rinse out type). I was wanting to try silicones for a change and this also did not have protein and I remembered the great reviews from here. I have only tested it on dry hair, putting a bit on my (slightly moistened) braid tassle and it does seem ok so far - other than the smell. It's so strong it sent me to lingering headache danger zone right away, with a feeling it could cause a migraine on me. I should have suspected something like this, as their honey deep conditioner had the same problem.

Some fragrances are worse than others. The Finnish brand I use the most, called XZ has very strong fragrances but they never give me headaches. I think I am able to use this up, and the little drop that I used on my braid did seem to make my hair feel good. I hope my nose will get used to it, and maybe when I'll actually rinse it out it's better - now I used it as a leave in. (The honey deep conditioner had such strong smell it still made me headachy the next day too, I hope this one isn't so bad.) I often wish there would be sniff-testers here, I don't want to sniff products that are not testers at the stores (I know many do).

My mythic olive update: it's been nice conditoner, not awesome but very decent. The scent however does bother me, and almost everytime I have used it* I get a mild, lingering headache.

But, in regards to the * above. For some reason when I mix it with another conditoner, the scent does not bother me. And I like what it does to my hair better this way also.

I noticed this half-accidently, when I was trying to use up a not-so-great conditoner by mixing it with mythic olive one, and suddenly my hair was all kinds of wonderful, and no headache! I don't think it's just the smaller quantity used, because I also tried using less of it before finding this trick and it still gave me headache. Also, the other conditioner I use is quite heavily scented too, but for some reason the scents this brand (Finnish, called XZ) uses never cause headaches, whereas I have now had two Garnier Respons conditioner that have been giving me headaches (honey and olive). And for some reason mixing the two "neutralizes" the scent of mythic olive or something - at least neutralizes the headache producing qualities.

Anyway, now I am a fan, and I like what a bit of silicone is doing to my hair! I was no-silicone for a long time but now that I have quite a lot of wiry hairs I think cones can help me quite a bit. This mix of mine also has not been building up, another plus. :)

Since I found this mix I have used nothing else :D

Soooo, after reading through both this thread and various google results, I was massively enabled and finally bought the rice cream&oat milk mask today.
I wanted to buy the Olive Conditioner and maybe mask so badly, but rational thinking somehow won (my wallet thanks me for this): unfortunately, while "hair oil" with cones and another Garnier mask with them seem to work just fine, coney Conditioner often leaves me with dry ends (even happened with the HE Hello Hydration, which I really, really wanted to like ), and two other conditioners from this range (Vanilla&Papaya, and the Cocoa&Coconut one) left me with somehow shinier and straighter hair, but with terribly dry ends (the V&P, with cones) and/or somewhat dry-feeling, tangle prone lengths.
They should make trial sizes of this stuff, so I can give in and try it, but won't have too much spend money for nothing if it turns out bad.^^

Wish me luck with the (cone free, at least here in Germany) mask :D
My bleach-damaged parts are forever hungry for moisture, protein, and anything else they can get their imaginary hands on, so I have partly been going back to conventional products and searching for kind of "heavy duty" stuff lately.

Sorry for the double post, but I can't edit. Forgot to mention I bought the oat&rice Conditioner, too :D
The fragrance is very chemically sweet-flowery, will see how/if it holds in my hair.
However, I have put a microscopically small drop in one strand of my outgrowing fringe and so far, it feels really soft.

That's great. Amazing what happens by accident, isn't it?

After testdriving Mythic Olive conditioner for a while, I don't think I'll keep it in a regular rotation. Maybe I can sometimes buy a bottle. I have started to find more fairy knots after I started using it, I don't know why some conditioners make my hair react this way but mythic olive seems to be one of them. I find at least one fairy knot, often several a day now, whereas normal is few a month. This, and my nose has never gotten used to the smell.

That's odd. Maybe it is because my hair is layered (I think so), but I have no fairy knots - that is completely alien to me now. I think I had them back when I was waist unlayered.

The argan hair mask I got from Aldi this year (brandname: Kyrell) is pretty good too. I have been using it in place of my HE HH for a while now. It has no silicones, and argan oil is the 3rd (yes 3rd!) ingredient on the ingredients' list. It's awesome! I think I paid €2.99 for it, and stocked up when I read the ingredients and then later even more when I had tried it. Pretty pricy for Aldi, but it is technically a "mask" and not a conditioner. It says to leave it on for 5-10 min., but I leave it on for 2 and sometimes 3, and it *works*! I usually don't have that much time, so...

I'm pretty oily so can't use "hydrating" shampoos, and the olive one is for drier hair types. I do love that conditioner, though. I fear the oats one is going to be a little too light, so I will be using that as a first C in my WCC routine. Not right now, though... other stuff to use up, which was my NY's resolution. Use more of the older stuff up, and imply some kind of FIFO system. I just used to just add to my stash. Now I pick the older stuff out first, as I should do.

My mythic olive conditioner does have cones (I'm in North Europe). I can't be sure from the top of my hat, but I'd say mine does not contain mineral oil.

The big test will be my SD. If the whole blends doesn't make it flair, I might have found a new HG.

It is a slightly less harsh formula: SLES + CB while Pantene & HE have SLS + SLES + CB. I have no issues with the shampoo. Just FYI and I have SD too. If you use a more hydrating formula, I can't promise you anything, though. I have always used one for more oily hair in that range. We have that here in Belgium (the 5 herbs, and the green tea one). I've been using the avocado conditioner every 1-2 days since I got it. It good but not for me.

My hair gets limp/flat much faster then normal but the biggest issue is it doesn't agree with my scalp.
I've been a bit itchy the last couple days and this morning I have a few tiny bumps and gritty bits on my scalp, classic signs of impending SD flair.

The shampoo cleaned well without being overly stripping and the conditioner is lighter then the avocado formula but still with enough slip that I was able to comb through wet hair with no trouble.

I still probably won't be able to use the conditioner regularly but it will definitely be a regular addition. Maybe once my bottle of HH is done, I'll try using just the green apple, see what happens. There has to be another conditioner that exists that won't irritate my SD.

Unfortunately with SD you can often only tell a bit later (at least that's how it goes for me). I don't get itchy right off the bat, it's usually a bit of a delayed reaction. I don't know how it goes with you? Can you tell early on?

Obsidian, I applaud you for going through all that just to find a conditioner that works on your scalp. Knowing my SD, I can't put conditioner on it. I even doubt that people with SD *can* use conditioner on their scalps, but you might prove me wrong. Maybe a soft, thin, hypo-allergenic one might do the trick. Maybe try one for volume or something, those are the least moisturizing conditioners out there, and might work!

I can't wait until my hair is long enough that the conditioner doesn't get on my scalp, until then it looks like I'll be sticking with HE products.

I really think the issue is with the cones used. Garnier has amodimethicone while HE has bis-aminopropyl dimethicone. I'll have to do some research on the difference between the two.

I still like the green apple. My hair is soft, smells amazing and isn't limp, even after sleeping.

Obsidian - Something with piroctone olamine as an ingredient might work for some SD-prone scalps (provided it's non-oily, etc). For my own scalp piroctone olamine has been a huge game changer and thankfully it's relatively easy to find shampoos and even few conditioners with it. That being said, since my own experiments with CO years ago, my own scalp got sensitized to conditioners and I can't put any on my scalp. Once every now and then doesn't seem to bother me, and I also regularly use conditioner pretty near my scalp because it helps my wiry, coarse hairs feel better and thus prevents trichotillomania triggers for me (= some compromises are needed for me).

This article might make you feel better about those ingredients, likelikepenny. They are talking about a different Garnier conditioner, but even with the isopropyl alcohol being high up on the list, it's still only 0.75% of the formula. Between the small amount that's in there and the short amount of time it's on your hair, the scientists on this website say it shouldn't be an issue. I personally have used rinse out conditioners with this ingredient and never noticed a problem myself:

For the record and for those wondering, there is absolutely nothing wrong with alcohols that aren't drying. They come in most conditioners. I understand you have issues with it. But that's a different thing altogether. And why does Whole Blends give you issues, when there's tons of other conditioners out there that have about the same formula? Wait... there's a drying alcohol in there? That's news to me. I thought we were talking non-drying alcohols so far. Why haven't I noticed it in my formulations here? And the olive oil one has always been outstanding to me! As the honey one. Maybe it's in the other ones, the "lighter" conditioners?

I saw isopropyl alcohol in the ingredients when researching. It's about half way through the list on some. It may not be on all, just the ones I wanted to try lol.

The article posted made me feel better so maybe I'll give it a try.

I'm going to check my olive oil one for you, hold on! But then it might be useless as formulas may be different depending on the country. I'll go and check anyway. Hang on.

It is in the olive one, but not the honey one (benzyl alcohol + isopropyl myristate or something or other). This is the "Loving Blends" line, so the Dutch formula. I don't have the Belgian ones here as I ordered these online from a Dutch drugstore. I have never had "issues" with either of these, though. Never!

I think I'll try out the honey one when I get a chance and see how it goes. Thank you all :)

It's definitely not a "must"; I'm certainly not trying to push you to like the product. ;) But well, I guess it can't hurt to try. I've found the olive oil to be more moisturizing and more detangling than the honey one, though; just FYI. :)

No pushing required. I'm a product junkie at heart. :p

I've been using the honey mask and don't like it. No slip = tangles and it makes my hair feel gunky.
