Show us your UPDO in action taken against a scenic outdoor background anywhere in the world. Upload the pic, add a descriptive one sentence caption and you're done. Repeat styles, hair accessories/hairtoys are fine. Enjoy!

Ooh, lovely pictures both of you!
omega your pics bring back fond memories. I lived near Palm Springs for a time as a kid, and we used to go to Joshua Tree National Park a lot. I loved climbing around on the boulders in that place! My little brother was named Joshua after the Joshua trees there. :)

I don't know, I've seen lots of beautiful background scenery in the post your pictures here thread. I was kind of thinking a more descriptive title would help keep this thread alive though. When I initially clicked on it, I was just expecting a link to a tutorial for a rave bun or something. I only clicked because I was curious as to what a rave bun is. I like the concept of the thread though and hope it doesn't die. :)

Ooh, awesome omega! Rock climbing is so cool, I used to go to a climbing gym with my roommate, now I live right next to world class rock climbing and I'm out of shape and too scared of climbing real rocks to try.

Anyways, here's today, I'd rate it a class zero rock climb:

neko_kawaii I love your Yosemite photos, I really need to go to the park more... It's weirdly easy to not go awesome places that you're close to, if we lived further away I bet we'd be planning camping trips there, but because it's so close it gets ignored somehow.

Where is that? California coastal ranges north of SF?

ps: machete is usually not the best tool for clearing trails on a maintenance basis.

No, I wish... That's where I used to live and I miss the temperate rain forest terribly, this is just a little west of Yosemite.

Not to derail the thread but since you do trail maintenance (I think?) what would you recommend, yard clippers? Me and my husband were mostly joking about the machetes. It's an old BLM road, not exactly a hiking trail so there are places where it's basically a thicket...

Ah, that makes sense.

It depends on the brush, but for stuff in the 1/2" to 1.5" range loppers are good (I like the Fiskars Powergears), above that, a small pruning saw is good. Most brush species are just encouraged by careless trimming. In general, if you can't remove the base (digging out, or in the case of Ceanothus species-cutting below ground level), the best thing to do is make sure that cuts are close to the main trunk/branch, and there is a strong stem growing up into the light (the worst is topping a stem). Feel free to PM me if you want more detailed tutorial.

sumidha
February 6th, 2016, 02:12 PM
Cool, thank you! :)

I'm not sure how deep we'll get into really clearing it, versus just cutting a path to get through for a couple more months, since it's a hike that's only really good in the winter and early spring; the poison oak gets leafy and the waterfall dries up and there's not much point after that.

Here is my bun at Brooklyn Botanical Garden, during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Later on, by the time I walked to the cherry trees it got so crowded that I gave up getting a closer picture of the cherry blossoms with my bun.

Thank you! Ah, you were there too! There were sooo many people, I don't think you would be able to spot my hair toy in the crowd lol.

Thank you! Yeah, I think it was intentional, it's also the most Japanese hair toy of my collection. :)

I discovered that we are planning to visit here (listed below) tomorrow. About ten minutes into realizing that,
I remembered this thread.

Hope I get some good shots!

What is a "rave bun"?

Right? I thought this was a thread about the type of bun you'd wear to go to the club and party with your neon-wear. lol.

Isn't that cool!!! So fun to go to a place other friends have been before.

Well, I'm coming back from vacation...and I've been taking LOTS of bunpictures. I've had very little access to wifi. But when so finally get home, I'm gonna be wearing this thread out.

I didn't get to upload the bottom of the volcano pic yet. I did get this one uploaded, though.

Wildcat Diva I love your photos! It seems you are having a great trip. Bun with a baseball hat is very clever!
I've been to 'Garden of the Gods' in Colorado before, it's so beautiful! I've never been along Route 66 (I wanted to), please share more pics when you get home.

Hiking with braided buns at the Rocky Mountain National Park, CO. My fly-away hairs were being blown by the wind, it was very windy and I was out of breath at that altitude.

Hiking in the PNW in marshes by the Fraser river with a lazy wrap bun. Took an idea from Wildcat Diva and put a hairstick through my bun and under the strap at the back of my hat!
