When you're in a place and you have supah long hair and then people comment on another person's hair and you just feel like a joke because you stand there with your ponytail that crosses your whole back and people just go to a person with mid-back length ''Wow you're hair's pretty long''. And you're just like ''Hhh! Hmph! ?<M&CHfbeio''

Or when someone as a greater length and they keep getting comments while you go invisible.

Haaah. I kinda am starting to keep all the hair enthusiast for myself now cause I just feel like a freak to be so into this. I mean I'm not the only one it's just that (I think I read that somewhere) it just feels awkward when a HairGrower goes like full passionate hair talk with a person I dunno about the rest but I'm starting to feel really ridiculous. XD I don't feel ridiculous with you guys of course. It's just that like.

I'm this random person that got her hair badly cut just before 8th grade and that started searching for tips and tricks since then...

and now I'm kinda unsure about how to act around people.

but if you ask me I have this huge goal and dedication for... hair growth.

I just feel so weird from like an imagined point of view of others. But I mean, I'm grateful to have this goal that gives me challenges and opportunities to accomplish myself. Still, I think I'll keep it as an obscure part of myself from now on, so I can feel less like a freak.:o

Welcome to the place where all the other freaks hang out :p Seriously, you can talk about hair here as much as you like and we don't think you are odd at all. At least, no more than the rest of us :p Just jump right in and enjoy the LHC :)

Something similar that bugs me: I've taken the time to do a fancy braided style, go out to run errands, and nobody says a word. I whip in a quick french braid to keep the wind from blowing hair into my face, and collect compliments right and left.

Yes!! I completely get this! I try not to let it get to me since my hair is not supposed to just be for garnering compliments, but it does bug me.

Yeah... I know what you mean here ... And Spidermom, whilst I don't do braids , I do try different buns. I've realized to everyone other than people in the LHC, a bun is a bun. No one notices the differing loops or twists. I expect it's largely the same with braids. With beautiful hair sticks I get "oh you've got a pen in your bun?" I may as well go to office works and get a few cheapies. I'm learning to just do it and enjoy it for my own pleasure though. Not worry to much what others think or say. Sure I have hair envy sometimes but I try to learn from those with similar hair and texture to my own and not those whose thickness and texture I will never have. I look at growth and improvement in my hair, comparing it to itself. I'm starting a hair journal this year and going to celebrate my own successes. It may be something to consider creaturebailey? We're all here cheering each other on so find threads with similarly "folicalled" folk and join in!

Hi there! I too am a random person who got a horrific haircut in 6th grade and that's how I found the boards as well XD
By Googleing tips for growing hair quick, and now look at me, this became my main hobby

I too have become obsessed and hysterical about my hair. All my life I've been told by proffessionals that I could never have very long hair because my hair is so fine and fragile. At 49 years of age I found the LHC and now have waist length hair and am growing slowly towards hip.

CreatureBailey, you've come to the right place.

Lol, CreatureBailey^^ welcome to the hair freaks place ! :D

I just would like to say that hair is a pleasant hobby, and growing together with the encouragement of other hair lovers is great fun. But hey, "it's just hair", lol. It should not turn into a competition. Not everybody is blessed by super hair genes, and having dream hair has never made a person better. I mean that we cannot define ourselves by comparing our hair to the others. We don't "accomplish ourselves" by growing our hair out. We accomplish ourselves by becoming independent both from people's compliments (= we need to grow amazing hair to feel worthy) and from people's criticisms (= we refrain to be what we would like/need to be because we are afraid of the others' judgement). So take it easy concerning the other people's opinion and enjoy your hair as a natural thing and personal choice. :) Everybody here is more or less hair obsessed, so it's kind of relaxing to chat about our common obsession without feeling too weird !... ^^ :silly:

Just wanted to say, you aren't a freak because you like your hair and want to get complements. Everybody likes getting noticed!

I agree with Mimha on Copperlites comment, everyone has something insecure that makes us build walls around ourselves. Thing is, nobody really notices how weird you think are.

People sometimes just notice a change.

I mean, if you always have had long hair, even if its very long, they can stop noticing and make a big thing over someone they haven't met before who has hair only half as long. Just because the person is unfamiliar to them. People really do stop seeing what you look like after they have known you for a while, its a wierd thing.

Or if, they don't expect to see something. If you have a hairtype that people see a lot of longhairs with (very straight silky type hair, for instance) they can totally ignore you when they see a longhaired curly, for instance. Just because its not expected.

I keep my weird hair obsession to myself as well. Well except for making my husband measure my ponytail ;) And for me I do get compliments on my (now) bigger buns but unfortunately when I wear my hair down people say "wow, I thought your hair was so much longer because of your bun". lolol I'm okay with being ignored or being noticed except I do feel like a long hair fake when I get comments like that.

This happens to me all the time! one day I spent a considerable amount of time on a fancy braided hairstyle and nobody said a word, but the next morning I woke up and pulled my sleep bun out and just shook it out. My mom gushed over my yet to be brushed hair for 20 something minutes!!

I should just walk about with bed head then lol

Dammit it has hapenned to me too!!!  :Took me about 30-40 minutes to do nice fancy braided stuff (mostly dutch braid stuff) and no one said a single word. Today I made a simple low ponytail and received like 4 straight comments on it, mostly that it looks very good, my length and how shiny is!!!

Heck, I'm about to give up braiding. Because of my super dark hair braids are barely noticeable, it slips because it's damn slippery straight, work out arms hurt and it takes a lot of time avoiding bumps-loop sided looks!!!!!!! :steam:steam

I style my hair for myself however it can be a total let down when you spend so much time and people are like: Yeah whatever!!!!

Same here. My hair's neatly in this LWB when I'm up. On wash day, it gets clipped up to dry (curly girl method) and my mom says she really likes that "style" and I should wear it like that more - while it's only a means to an end, you know.

I had a french slide try to run away at work once - the twist actually BENT, and the looped bun part migrated down to above and slightly behind my right ear, and I got compliments galore on that fiasco - but almost never on my intact updos, lol.

This reminded me of a moment I had the other day. I've been growing my hair for over 2 years with minimal trims and just hit waist, so I've been really excited about this (& finally feeling like my hair is long). Anyway, I was buying something and the cashier had hair that was about WL, maybe a little longer. I said something like "your hair is so gorgeous!" and she said something like "thanks, it isn't extensions! People always think that! I really need to get my roots dyed, my sister is a hairdresser and does them for me." That was pretty much it, no big deal. But then I started getting oddly annoyed. My hair is about as long as hers, but I literally haven't gotten a single compliment on it in ages. I guess I'm just jealous  ahaha, or maybe I don't have hair worthy of compliments & I'm just in denial. I am quite tall & I don't think it's incredibly obvious that my hair is WL, from the front it looks like it'd be more like BSL. I guess I thought if anyone would appreciate my hair it'd be another person with long hair...and that wasn't the case. I feel so incredibly petty and shallow saying that, but I guess when you've worked hard and waited so long you kind of want someone, anyone, to notice & say "good job! it looks great!". :P

Oh jeez. This so much. I wear my hair in an English braid, and people go nuts. I get hair-mishandled all the time if I wear my hair in a pony or a regular braid.

I master a beautiful intricate braided bun, and not a word.

Such is the way of the life for longhairs.

Oh for sure blue_eyes. Basically I grew my hair out for myself, not for compliments, but darn it - sometimes you just want somebody new to appreciate the time and effort, not to mention patience, that it takes to maintain long hair in good condition.

It's always nice to get a random hair compliment, I agree.

But sometimes I feel like a show-and-tell object. My hair is longer than average, and I don't wear it down often, so it frequently goes unnoticed. I'm good with that. But seriously, this morning I've had a coworker point out my paranda bun to 3 separate people saying, "OMG you should see how long it is!" And inevitably the person wants to SEE HOW LONG IT IS. Sigh.
