Hello all ! :)

I have frequently noticed that long haired people often have a particular sense of art : they like to take beautiful hair pictures in the nature, or to play with color, texture, photography and painting stuff, etc. in order to produce something artistic with their hair pictures. That's why I suggest to have a place to share our common taste for beautiful, long, artistic hair pictures ! The only requirement is that pictures must be your own (= taken by you and of your own hair), and modified/embellished/vintaged/etc. by yourself too. All kind of representations/techniques are allowed (within the frame of what is considered decent in LHC) : soft or crazy colors, black & white, psychedelic light effects, collages, old fashion, vintage, Victorian, Boticelli, etc., whatever pleases your own sense of art.

Let's enjoy the timeless beauty of long hair together !

(My own pics will follow soon !^^)

Sounds like a great idea for a thread, really! Can't wait to see your photos.
I'll be brave and post first. :D
The first pic I used as an avatar here for sometime. Now when I look at it, I think how my hair looks so much shorter.

Here is my first one : La Dame au Chignon (the lady with the bun)

It's actually a picture taken in my bathroom in 2004, to see how I looked with my everyday bun (I was working in Africa). It turned out to be a really nice profile picture of me, on which I particularly liked the way my bun makes my neck look longer. So I played with it, adding aquarelle effect. It still looks like a bathroom picture unfortunately^^, but I really like it. I have always found beautiful how a bun can enhance the "port de tête" (French expression for "the way you carry your head", if this makes sense). A simple bun can be so elegant !...

To encourage you, here is another one with my hair down, taken last October. I kind of liked the way black and white allows to emphasize the texture effect, as one cannot relay on color to figure it out.

Love this idea for a thread :)! Beautiful pics, Mimha and Dessi :inlove:!

Most of my 'aesthetic hair pics' might turn out to be cosplay-related, though xD

A photographer friend took these, but it's me and I fiddled with the contrast and saturation in some of them a bit as well :)

Indeed, SWR^^. And pictures should be your own, and made "art like" in some way, like playing with hue, light, texture, material...

... I absolutely love your costumes, this said. You really pull off this elf-like style ! :)
What about launching a long awaited costume & hair thread ??? :D I would be pleased to join too !

Sorry! Btw, 'our own' as in 'self-timer camera setting, with no one taking our picture', or can somebody else take the pic as long as we fiddle a bit with colour, effects and the like? Not sure about what that meant :) (in that second case, two of the former pics would fit, I fiddled with the colours, contrast and lighting myself :) )

Thanks! That thread sounds awesome as well :D We do have a cosplay thread already :)

I will, but I want to take some more tonight with some more Victorian-looking props ;) Can I ask you how you got that halo of light around your head, I would love to do that with mine but don't know if Photoshop will allow it and that's the only photo editing program I know how to use. It's a lovely thread and I'm loving all the photos here so much - such artistic and talented people, all of you :crush:

It looks like she set up the lighting to hit her from behind and slightly to the right, and then messed with a few contrast and brightness settings, and put a soft, gradient black frame around the edges of the photo. It's amazing how a simple photo can be made beautiful with just a few simple tweaks. :)

Saralabyrinth I think you did a great job capturing the Victorian era. Like how you didnt smile! They never smiled in pictures. And the vintage brush.

Mimha I agree that the bun does a lot for your profile! I also appreciate therse effects when I wear a bun...

Maybe Ill be back later with some pics...although I havent been taking any lately. I got sick of it.

These are all so lovely! I don't think my hair is quite long enough for a vintage look, but when I hit classic length, I'd love to recreate my avatar in a nice photoshoot. It's from a 1920's magazine article on care of long hair, and it's what originally sparked my desire for really long hair.

You use photoshop, don't you? I believe all you will have to do is put a transparent layer over top, and write your name or username on it. It's your choice if you want to make it opaque or not. I don't use photoshop so I'm not sure how to explain it in a way that suits that program, I use SAI for all of my editing uses.

Edit: Here's a video tutorial, I'm not sure what version you use but I hope it helps!

Oh, yes! Sorry about that.

It's a very simple method, and you won't be able to get the text to change opacity as far as I know:
1. Go to the picture
2. Select the editing button
3. Press the right arrow on the editing toolbar
4. Select the text option
5. Add whatever you would like to use as text.
- You can change the color, size, font, and position of the watermark text to make it less noticeable

If you'd like me to take screenshots of myself doing it, I would be more than happy to. :)

Hi Riona ! :)

By "our own" pictures, I mainly meant that it should remain an amateur stuff. Actually it's not a big deal if the pics are taken by your SOs ... as long as they are not made by a professional photographer. (Yours are signed, so I guess they belong to a professional photographer). The goal here is to play with the pictures by adding a little something to make them artistic, or imitate a style, like engraving image, Impressionism painting, vintage picture, medieval icon, or even like old adds for shampoo, etc. Whatever you consider artistic ! :) Now if they belong to you and you can "trick" them in some way (like to enhance the mysterious elfe/fairy amtmosphere^^) why not ! :D

(Totally in awe of your first one, by the way ! What an endless waterfall of hair !!! Your hair is just so perfect with the costume ! :))

I have never seen the cosplay thread ! We should definitely dig it out !! But I may open soon another thread about historical/traditional garment and hair too.^^ I love this kind of thing : having long hair is like being connected to ancient times and tradition, and I feel it as a link between cultures as well. My hair helped me feel accepted and respected when I travelled in some parts of the world where ladies traditionally have long hair. :)

The chignon picture was just "aquarellized" : the halo effect on the wall is just the light effect on the bathroom wall^^. And for the other one, I "black-and-withed" it and just added an soft black oval frame. The light is the natural light from the window behind me. I particularly enjoy playing with natural light effects, especially backlight. And I totally agree on the fact that just a few little tricks can transform a simple selfy into an art portrait.

Hello hair lovers and hair artists, and hello Anje ! :)

I have just figured out how to produce watermarks in order to stamp my most significant pictures (or any picture which is precious to me). Just thought is was... kind of interesting from the artistic point of view too, lol

Here is one my latest trials, which I kind of like because it doesn't overwhelm the image and doesn't disrupt its color harmony.

http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag408/Mimha/My%20hair/WL%20bun%20waves_Dec%202015%20Mim_zpsdldxmc2y.jpg (http://s1374.photobucket.com/user/Mimha/media/My%20hair/WL%20bun%20waves_Dec%202015%20Mim_zpsdldxmc2y.jpg. html)

Actually, a semi-transparent watermark is interesting because you can place it over the strategical zones of the picture. It makes it much more difficult to steal and modify than just a text at the top/bottom/angle which can be easily cropped away. (This example is a Gimp embossing effect).

I have tried other styles on my first posted pics in this thread, using merging soft colors. It's not too eye catching and an easy way to do.

This is a lovely idea for a thread and I have thoroughly enjoyed looking through the photographs. The avatar is me about three years ago; I've added some length since then.

Thank you, Mimha for creating such an interesting and beautiful thread!! (My current favourite I must say ;) )

I hope people keep posting photos. Here's a picture I took today, in the small forest outside the house :) I finally managed to make my tripod work, hehe. Yes, I'm wearing a t-shirt, but it wasn't as cold as it looks

Does this braid count as a hair pic :)? I uploaded this today to my cosplay blog and I really like how the lighting tweaks turned out :)

Both are gorgeous, but - the colour one really jumps out at me, Dessi. Wonderful.

This could count as a hair pic :) (added pointy ear and played with contrast and lighting in Photoshop)

I didn't do much with this one, just added some soft focus, but like the result: hair on my 51st birthday. I was trying to get a length shot but the wind had other ideas.

Hey! Right now I only have one picture of the vintage style I just tried (20's fingerwaves woot!), and it's crappy webcam quality, and the background is terrible, but I kinda like it anyways :)

I plan on perfecting that style, so maybe better pictures at a later date!

I love this so much.
