Hi all.
I've been diagnosed with Adrogenic Alopecia about 2 months ago. Was supposed to start Minoxidil, but since I'm only 28, I thought I should try something else. So, I'm taking Saw Palmetto, and I think It's working- baby hairs, less shedding. I'm having an appointment with a specialist today, hoping that she will tell me that the situation is indeed better, and that I can still keep avoiding using Mixoxidil.

Also, this is my hair at the moment- what length is that? I think that I need a trim ASAP, I don't think that my ends looks very healthy (or even), would love your input. Thanks~

Looks great! And I think it's almost to your waist, if not there already. I'm so sorry to hear of the AA, and I hope something works well for it. :)

I don't see anything wrong with your ends. :)

Looks almost waist length. Your ends look good to me!

Do you have any PCOS symptoms or hormonal dysregulation symptoms like excess body hair/facial hair, acne etc? Do you have a lot of abdominal fat? What's your diet/exercise like? You don't need to answer but may be things to consider when trying to find the cause of the condition.

Iron, zinc, biotin, b vitamins, omega 3 fatty acids, protein, vitamin D are all very important and deficiencies can contribute to hair loss. Stress depletes many of these nutrients so can contribute.

I've seen saw palmetto help some people with this in clinical practice (I'm a Naturopathy/Nutritional Medicine student) but you need to find the root cause and treating some hormonal imbalances with diet and lifestyle can be very effective, but takes patience. Hair loss due to hormonal dysregulation can be slow to improve even after addressing the cause, but it does eventually.

If you haven't already and if you're not taking any hormonal medications (the pill etc) then get hormonal profile testing, get iron studies, b12, vit D, thyroid studies.. if you're able to.

I'm sure no one gets the diagnosis of AA "justlikethat". I mean, she probably had blood panels & hormone checks done already. I hope. :) :flower:

Actually, I've done blood tests, and it came out alright. I'm thinking about checking PCOS, although I'm at normal weight, don't have acne and my period is never late, but I do have excessive body hair (and some facial hair, meh). I'm just about to go and see the doctor, hoping that the Saw Palmetto works for me.

I wish it was waist, still not there (and the thing is, that I think that my ends are a bit dry and not as fresh, so I'm gonna trim next week. It's mid-back, I think. Having such thin and fine hair makes me think it will be kinda hard to manage at waist, but oh, I wish).

Thank you for your replies, I will update. ^^

How many mg of Saw Palmetto do you take? I'm thinking about trying it myself. I take a Hair, SKin, and Nails supplement and have been taking that consistently for about 7-8 months. Before that I tried Vivisical but that stuff is so expensive!

You need 25+ posts before you can edit; see User Permissions (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=68520) for an idea of what to expect/when.

Your pic looks good from here...and it seems you are at waist (smallest part of your body/at last rib); very close if not.

I hope you reach a peaceful resolution with your hair :)
