So I dont bog ya'll down with a million posts i'm gonna create my progress thread now and ask some questions. In january I'll post my first monthly growth update! (I plan to do the inversion method next week, was going to do it this week but from what i read you are not supposed to do it while on your period and that snuck up on me lol )

I recently went to a buzz cut(nearly bald!) thanks to my baby sneaking up on me. Now that i've solved the reason i was dying my hair and ruining/cutting it so much I feel im on the path to grow it out virgin and healthy. However i dont know how to do that!

What can I do for my hair while its this short to help it grow? I've decided first off to limit washes to once a week at most as my hair thrived when i did water only.(but my scalp gets so dang itchy if i go to long without a shampoo, i'm going to try and find a sulfate free option or read up on natural non damaging cleansers if they even exsist!) No conditioner, theres so many options for it its mindboggling, my hair doesnt like anything with protein, especially not since i gave birth. No brushing when it gets longer, combs only when needed but finger combing mostly(i have semi curly hair a brush makes it poof like crazy). I've also been taking protective measures for my hair since I got my super short cut, I wear a headscarf when I leave the house to keep it protected from the cold, indoors I dont bother. I'm considering buying a silk scarf for nighttime though.

I dont know what else i can do for it though, I'm going to start retaking my prenatals(for health! NOT cause i'm pregnant again!), we're starting to eat better(lots more protein in our diets now). Should I avoid oils, or try some out to keep my scalp healthy?

Also Starting pics from Dec 16, 2015!

I'm afraid I don't have any useful advice for you. You'll have to wait for the experts to chime in. But. . .

Nearly bald? I don't see how you can get much shorter. It'll be fun watching your progress. Happy growing

The silk scarf for sleep is a good idea. Personally I was sad when my hair grew past the "velcro to the pillow" stage because that was a weird sensation! But hair rubbing on anything is damaging in the long term and silk is probably as gentle as you can get. Scarves also help get you through the awkward shaggy length, but you can do some fun stuff with little clips and headbands. Once long enough, avoid ponytails and go for braids instead to contain loose hairs, even better if you can secure the braid up somehow like in a tucked in french braid (the end gets tucked into the pocket under the braid, very nice looking).

Comb gently.

Oil on scalp is hit and miss. Some people find it causes sheds, others that oil improves growth (ie castor oil combined with scalp massage). I only oil from the ears down, partially because I do seem to have increased shedding from oil on scalp and mostly because I also have increased shedding from conditioner on scalp and conditioner is the easiest way to remove oils. You may not have a problem with oil or conditioner, not everyone does.

Enjoy the journey!

A bit late on the update! Sorry! Between a teething baby and the stress of having my cell phone stolen I just totally spaced out taking pictures on time! Luckily its only a week late! I can see its grown, but I dont know if its being slow or normal. I'm also dealing with a SUPER itchy scalp for hte last few days, I accidently made myself bleed cause it was itching so bad i wanted to cry. I gave in and washed it with the babies shampoo and massaged my scalp, that helped a little but not as much as I'd like. I've been using coconut oil again but wheres it used to help my scalp itchies now isnt doing much of anything!
I see my doctor tommorow about an unrelated thing, but i'll ask about the scalp issues while i'm there!

Wow, you are so pretty and your hair is growing wonderfully fast and your little girl is just the cutest little one ever! ;)

How fortunate you are to be able to begin again from nothing! What a journey you will have - and all documented as well. Few people have that.

Thank you everyone! I totally forgot to ask my doctor about my scalp, I like a fool made the appointment for 8 in the morning when we dont even get up untill 8, on top of that the baby woke up like three times..I made it to the appointment but was so tired i forgot to ask oops. However it seems to have passed i think it was a hormone thing caused by PMS, that or build up.

TheGray-Nope no triming, it grew in like that its weird.

hey, i'm a former bald girl growing it back - after a year you'll be so glad you did it.
biotin made my face break out and also made a long blonde hair grow out of my neck haha so i stopped!
i use shampoo on my roots once a week and leave in conditioner on the ends, warm water and a bit of conditioner once or twice a week too.
i put my hair in pigtails during the mullet phase and haven't trimmed at all, it works itself into a cohesive style after a while.

i just saw your post in super shorties thread and you look bombshell with that leopard print dress/bright lipstick!

;)Your hair grows pretty good! I wonder what the reason of your itchy scalp is, so frustrating:(

TaterTot- I'm really looking forward to seeing my natural hair color at a length longer then a few inches haha so it will be quite rewarding.
I dont take biotin either it made me break out bad as well. Though there is a small amount in my prenatals, but it doesnt seem to be hurting me.

I LOVED the mullet stage! pigtails, tiny pony tails, or my favorite was putting in a headband which made my shorter hair blend in, and made my hair look longer.

Thats not a dress lol Its pajamas! Though since its decent and knee length, I have on many occassions just thrown on leggings and went out about my day, it takes wayyy to long to get out of my house, get hte little one ready to go, getting myself ready is usually an after thought haha. Sadly they are no more though, last time i washed them the stupid dryer destroyed the lace on the back melted it :( Those were my fave pjs!

NikitaRM- It is frustrating! I tried head and shoulders shampoo with little effect, so i tried t-gel, and that seems to be taking enough of the edge off that i'm not itching it till it bleeds. However it is drying my hair out something fierce, thank goodness for coconut oil!

I'd ask my doc about it, but I've got a ball of other crap going on healthwise and my hair concerns are on the backburner while we figure out whats wrong if anything. If everythign with it turns out fine i'll mention it to him if its still an issue. (though i may bring it up just in case its symptom of whatever is going on, never know it could be related!)

If you have SD and treat it with an antifungal, the *last* thing you want to do is *oil*. Oil is no good for SD! There might be a difference with the oils you use, but in general, it's not recommended. I'd slather something else on, like a good moisturizing conditioner.

Your baby girl is adorable! I've gotten help for an itchy scalp from a diluted white vinegar rinse. You could try using diluted shampoo every once in awhile.

Ehehehe I MAY have forgotten to take monthly progress pics, life got busy! not much growth these last few months,I THINK all the stress i'm under is affecting it. I'm not doing much to it these days, I just let it do its own thing and forget to wash it but once a week lol So these are from like 5 minuets ago haha. Im in the middle of a move so my cameras packed crappy cell phone photos it is!

Oh I also wanted to sneak in a picture of my daughters beautiful hair! It changed dramaticly from when she was a tiny baby.

2 days old, she had this head of dark brown hair, which me and DH both found odd considering he was born with white hair(it darkened as he grew older and is now pretty much brown), and I was also born with white hair that darkned as I aged but remained in the blondier side of things. So i was fully expecting her to come up with silver hair boy was I surprised!

aw thank you, my curls get more curly the longer my hair gets! i cant wait till its all curly again and manageable cause at this length its zero percent manageable without massive amounts of product and i'm lazy. My baby isnt just a pretty face she has a personality to match I got lucky with this one shes a HUGE sweetheart, with a smile that melts my heart. (I'm biased cause i gave birth to her haha)

It took me a bit to be decide to keep them, at first I wanted to hide it and pretend it did happen, hide it under scarves and wigs etc. I just gave in and figured its only going to be this short for a short time, may as well embrace it as I dont ever plan to have it this short again.

Small update!

I finally got around to seeing my doctor about the severe itching of my scalp. Mostly cause my hair growth seems to have stalled and my hair is thinning. He ran a blood test, low ferritin. So he thinks that my iron levels being very low are causing the hair loss/stall of growth. In regards to the itching he believes its SD and prescribed Nizoral 2% for me to use 2 times a week for the next 8 weeks then as needed. I also have to take an iron supplement and vitamin C supplement for a while. At least until I figure out how to fix my diet to get me towards getting enough iron. I dont have a great diet, i mostly graze because cooking with a toddler running around is a pain. Its much easier to grab a pan of ramen then it is to cook anything nutrious.

Likely my levels have been low for a while, would also explain why im ALWAYS tired no matter how much sleep I get lately. So im hoping that in a few weeks I'll feel better, and maybe in a few months my hair growth will get back to normal? I have seen litterally NO growth the last two months, and the crown of my hair is so thin i can see scalp when looking straight at myself in the mirror.
