I saw this video on instagram, of a hairdresser trimming hair with a machine

Looks very interesting! I feel like making my boyfriend learn it to trim my ends for me hahaha
Did someone ever try?

That's just an electric razor/trimmer. I thought when you said machine... well, I didn't know what to think.

I had my hair bobbed one time in my twenties using a trimmer. It was easier for the hairdresser as my hair was so thick and I didn't want it layered at the time. Because my hair is so thick, I had a very pretty hem, though!

I've used electric clippers many times but on my horses and dogs, but never on myself. It requires a very steady hand for the person holding the clippers and no sudden movements by the clippee, otherwise bald patches and missing chunks.

I would be a little scared to use them on my hemline (or let anyone else either) because a flick of the wrist and you could lose a big chunk. Maybe scissors and Faye's trimming method, it's not hard to learn and your BF could help. :flowers:

ETA:
YupLapushka, clippers in the hands of a trained hairdresser wouldn't be a problem, but if you were attached to the length and it was a DIY at home, I'd stick with the scissors. ;)

ETA2: just saw Arctics link, and that's the kind of stuff I was talking about. Until you've used them, it's hard to describe how fast and how much hair can be lost with one "bzzzz" with bad aim.

I've used clippers on myself at short lengths but at longer lengths I prefer scissors

You can't get that clean cut with clippers that you can with nice sharp professional scissors. It may look alright when it is first cut but it will require a trim to remove the splits more often.

I don't think clippers would be as sharp as hair cutting scissors. Clippers also go blunt faster as you'd be cutting larger amounts of hair and the clipper blades are constantly moving against each other. I wouldn't do it!

A few years ago when I got my hair cut at the salon and ended up with a hair disaster that made some of the hairs on my fringe super short.
I ended trying to cut them down with an electric razor so they wouldn't poke out. I ended up taking a good chuck of hair off accidentally so it left a bald spot right on my hairline.
So yeah, I'm not gonna mess around with electric razors anymore. But it might be different if its on the ends of your hair.

My thought was the old Wayne's World, when Garth's getting his hair cut by a flow-bee and freaking out.
