My favorite product was St. Ives Intense Conditioning Treatment. It had a peppermint scent and made my scalp tingle. Haven't seen it since the early 90's. :(

Mine was a relatively recent one; they discontinued my HG conditioner of many years this spring/early summer. It was (again, ha ha) Finnish brand XZ's Lemon Honey flavour. It was marketed to blonde hair, which I am not, but ingredients, ingredients... my hair loved that stuff, I used it all the time as my main condish AND as a leave-in. I loved the lemony aroma too. I was bummed to learn they discontinued it but allowed some crappy protein-y stuff to continue being manufactured. (This one was free of protein.)

The old herbal shampoos in the dark brown plastic bottles they had in our local Aldi (from the brand "Mildeen") in the eighties - they were so lovely! I don't know if anyone remembers them.

They just discontinued the original Infusium 23 and I'm sad! My hair always loved that leave in, so I bought myself one last big bottle of it and will use it sparingly until I find a suitable replacement.

Seconding original Fructis Triple Nutrition conditioner. That was my holy grail conditioner & I still haven't found one my hair likes quite as much. I've got a couple bottles left hoarded away that I only bust out when my hair really needs some love. I also really miss Sunsilk Hydra TLC leave in. The perfume in it was a bit strong, but it made my hair feel so ridiculously soft.

Another vote for the original Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition. That stuff was magic. Also, Sweet Creek Herbs Chamomile & Ylang Ylang shampoo bar. The Marshmallow bars are really similar in terms of cleansing and moisturizing, but they don't make my highlights pop the way the Chamomile & Ylang Ylang did.

I just opened my last bottle last week. I had been saving it but the conditioner I was using just wasn't working well in this winter dry air. I used it and my hair was so soft and silky.
I hoarded ~10 bottles when the reformulation news hit the forums. My mother thought I was nuts :D

I miss Flex, too -- I used the "extra body" formula with the green label. It smelled so good, and the results were even better. There are old bottles for sale -- thirty bucks and up on Amazon. Aubrey Organics Rosa Mosqueta didn't smell the same, but gave me similar results -- the conditioner would even congeal and need to be scraped off the shower wall the same way -- but I understand they have changed it. The many long, expensive, bad-hair stretches of trying brand after brand to find something that works after yet another brand's change or discontinuation are one of the reasons I gave up on shampoo and conditioner and switched to shampoo bars. If CV ever shuts up shop quicker than I can lay in a supply, I will fall back to Dr. Bronners or other plain soap and water it down and use my ACV rinse and that'll be that.

Citre Shine had a really lightweight serum (I think they called it a "laminator" at the time) that really agreed with my hair and seemed to smooth and detangle without weighing it down. Most serums tend to make my hair go limp, but that one didn't.

They still make the serum, but I have no idea if it's the same formula and scent or not. I agree this was a great 90s brand. Also Salon Selectives in the 90s was awesome. They were bought out and what they sell now is nothing like the original :(

So I'll just put this here instead of making a new thread, but it looks like Infusium 23 discontinued the Miracle Therapy (with moringa oil) line. It came out a couple of years ago, moisturizing but still light enough to use on fine hair. Not sure why I put it away, but I broke out my 1/2 bottle of conditioner I had left to use with a different shampoo, and was reminded of how nice it is. Leaves hair soft and shiny, nice clean scent. Well I just checked their website and it says the line has been discontinued. Grrrr. It's still around online, I'll have to get a bottle before it's gone. Good line, I wish Infusium would advertise a little better so they wouldn't have to constantly discontinue/ change and update products and lines. What a shame. :/

I miss the original Organix formulations that didn't include sulfonate. I can't use sulfonate in my regular shampoo because it's too harsh. But it's not enough to clarify away my cones either, so it's just kind of a useless shampoo to me now. I used it for years and it worked beautifully diluted, but alas, that formulation is no more. :(

A little bit OT, but has anyone else noticed that with stretching washes it takes so much longer to get through things? The last leave-in before the different tub I'm currently using was discontinued in the time it took me to use up my tub. Granted it took I think 3 years or so to do it, but still!! The one frustrating thing about stretching washes, products getting discontinued without your knowledge because it takes so danged long to use them up sometimes.

It gets bad sometimes with me. Especially when I think about things like the fact that my current leave-in preceded my last two boyfriends, and I don't go through boyfriends quickly or get back into relationships soon after breaking up....yeah...I should probably work on using more of that. Maybe as a deep treatment.
Something more on topic. I just found out the coney serum I wanted to try Silk Drops is now discontinued. Sigh. And I can't justify buying some to try because I have a lot left of my current coney serum and it would be pointless to fall in love with something that's already discontinued.

I have a few products like that in my stash, like the Garnier UD peach & nutoil mask. It used to be HG for me. Now, for the life of me, I can't remember what it did for my hair. It was way shorter then. I know a lot of products that worked on my hair when it was shorter, now... not so much anymore.
Things can change. I say while it's a good product, use it while you can. ;) Maybe get 1 bottle and save it for special occasions when it really turns out to be a good one!

Even with being a daily washer myself, and having contact sports people in the house who go through a lot of product, because I stock up and rotate products, sometimes it's a while before I buy more. So I've also noticed things are just gone when you run out and try to find them again. A few years ago I bought Focus 21 shampoo and remoisturizer, this light spray on stuff. I had forgotten all about it. It was an 80s/ 90s brand that I used to use, and I had forgotten how much I like it until I tried it again. Same with Neutrogena Replenishing shampoo & conditioner (the pink ones). Well it was a probably a couple of years before I got through them, and when I went to buy more, sure enough, they were discontinued.
So I just looked on eBay, and sellers are asking over $100 for some of this stuff. One seller is asking $300 for the 32 ounce Focus 21 remoisturizer! Mon Dieu :/. I wonder if any desperate people will actually pay that. I guess the market is pretty competitive and few products withstand the test of time these days. Also some things are so poorly advertised, it's no wonder people aren't buying them. I only stumbled across Focus 21 by accident that time, I would have bought it sooner if I knew it was still around :/. If you really, really like something, hoarding is the way to go, I suppose, just in case.

I loved the John Frieda beach blonde surf spray, they discontinued it, and people revolted. They brought it back, but it's just not the same. I don't know what was in the ingredients, and probably don't want to know (unicorn tears I'd bet) but the stuff smelled amazing (doesn't anymore) and gave you goddess hair.

My favorite shampoo and conditioner is the old scent of the 1990's of Pantene Pro-V!!! I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the way Pantene used to smell back during the years of 1992 on up until 1996!!!! I hated the new scent they've changed to since then!!!! Don't get me wrong, I still use and love their shampoos and conditioners on my hair. Oh, ok cool! Thank you for the link to the site that told about where that actual scent came from!!!! I would have never guessed. Hey, you're not going to believe this but do you remember the Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Fortifying Conditioner that came packed in the white bottle? I still have some of that after 20something years!!! And, it still has that beautiful scent that it came packed with from the early 90's when it first came out!!!! Heliotrope, sandalwood and musk, OK. But what's the binding note?
The glasspetalsmoke link mentioned LemonUp. That one I remember well. I had one of three shampoos through age 4-18. LemonUp, a strawberry scent, and the real Clarol Herbal Essence (no s) shampoo. Although, there was a close knock off of the herbal shampoo, Spring Water, or some such.

truepeacenik- according to this article, they say Pantene ProV also had jasmine in it. Does that sound right to you guys? I'm not sure where the writer from the other article who said heliotrope, musk and sandalwood got that info. I do think it's true about the haircare products having strong emotional scent memory associations with them:

renia22, Yeah, I've also tried Revlon's Flex Shampoo many years ago too. It really didn't agree with my hair. It would make it look and feel shaggy. Well now I'm super curious! I don't remember when Pantene smelled like Herbal Essences. I'm thinking of the smell that it had when it was in the cylinder shaped bottles with the gold caps (1980s-1992 or so?). Fresh/ clean and a bit sultry, but not fruity. I can't remember what year the scent changed after that?
I did look for the Clear Scalp and no one seems to have it. Not CVS, Walgreens, Walmart...all gone. I did find the Heat & Color Protection ones at Big Y, but wouldn't you know it, it said "new and improved scent", and they have a perfumey berry scent. So I checked the website, and sure enough, everyone is complaining about the scent change in all of the lines! Maybe one of the old ones will show up at a discount store of something, I'd love to check out the old formula before they changed it.

Trader Joe's used to have shampoo and conditioner that I used as a teenager. They were cherry almond scented.

I probably wouldn't use it today because of silicone content, but I adored the fragrance of Revlon's Outrageous conditioner. It smelled amazing. I think I would just keep a bottle on hand to sniff on occasion. That, Flex and Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific ...miss those scents... Performance-wise I am another one who really misses the original Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose and GPB Conditioners...two of my all-time favorites.

I actually emailed Aubrey Organics about this just now. Also told them more people on the forum were upset. Maybe it would help if a lot of people would email them about this. :)

Alex_Lou- I remember that Trader Joe's shampoo & conditioner, it was called "Essential". That was one I used on and off in the 90s, until they discontinued it. The smell was very nice!
phalaenopsis- something is going on with the Aubrey Organics conditioners. I noticed a few weeks ago that they are all gone from the website, so I emailed them and asked if they were discontinued. They said no, but that they are in the process of reformulating them. So people must really not have been happy with the changes if they are being reformulated already. I don't know of that means they are going back to what they had before, or new formulas all together. But I'd be curious to know if they give you any additional info.
curly girl fla- they still have Outrageous in Canada, a bunch of people sell it on EBay.

Suave Wild Strawberry shampoo, the original one. It was dark red and the original smell was heavenly. The one they have now just isn't the same.
Old Salon Selectives too. I was overjoyed when I found some at a discount store, but I guess Unilever bought it and changed it. It's not the same either. :(
And Yemeni henna. They still make it, I just can't get my mitts on it.

Goldwell Stay Red- old version. Shampoo was deep red and conditioner too. Conditioner dyed my hands red every time I put it on my hair :D Newer version of Stay Red was less red. I miss Loreal Color Pulse too. It was citrus smelling non-permanent hair color. I bought these products 2007. After that year I haven't found any bottles of Color Pulse or Stay Red. Old Joico K-Pak was my favourite. It smelled like sweet banana.

Oh yeah, I do remember now the old smell of Pantene from the (1980s-1992) with the cylinder shape bottles, and the gold caps. I think I remember the scent changing during the year of 1996. That's when it changed to a more fruity smell. I mean, it smelled good and everything but I love the 1992's scent better. To me, I think Herbal Essences smells a little like the Pantene from 1991 on up to 1996! Awwwww, I'm so sorry that you couldn't find the Clear Scalp products :-( Maybe you can try online like at www.amazon.com. Oh yeah, it is excellent that you're using a Heat & Color Protection product on your hair! Especially, if you are coloring it. I have to do the same as well. I bet the perfumey berry scent smells nice. I also bet that you would've love to check out the old scent formula before they changed it.

From what I remember, I think I stopped using Pantene when they first changed it, and didn't use it again until the 2000s. I must have missed it completely in the later 90s. For a while Agree was still around, and I also used Trader Joe's Essential and Infusium, and this grapefruit shampoo from The Body Shop. I don't color my hair (except henna), so I didn't buy the Color & Heat one. Maybe one day I'll come across the original one, I mostly curious about the scent :)
Morphinea- L'Oreal had so many things that came and went over the years. I don't remember Color Pulse, but I loved the Artec color depositing shampoo. They also had some great mousses in the 90s, and well as this hair refresher mist around that time as well.

Clairol Herbal Essens. The stuff from the 70's. It not only smelled heavenly, my hair loved it.
Is that the one in the green bottle? Then didn't they make shampoos for specific for hair colours? For brunette they had a walnut formula. I think it was HE that made these.

In the later 80s Clairol briefly had various scents (coconut, aloe, ginseng, henna). They were called "Clairol Essence" and looked like this:

In the 80s our Aldi used to have similar bottles like that, 80s design and all, they were cylindrical and dark brown, more like apothecary style with brown screw off lids and you poured the shampoo out like that. It was a herbal shampoo and it was awesome! They had a version for blondes, for brunettes, and some other versions too, though I can't remember which ones. It was awesome shampoo; I'm still bummed they haven't brought it back. Loved that formula. After that I started using Garnier Fructis.
I think I only started to use conditioner when it was almost the year 2000. :o

That sounds very nice! I'm sure I would have loved it too. Quite a few companies had stuff like that back then. Yves Rocher had a phyto- reflect something or other shampoo for brown/ red hair in the 90s/ early 2000s that I really liked. Vo5 had some good ones in the 80s and 90s too, those were also nice and rich, and I don't recall using conditioner with those either. Here's a commercial from 1989, I remember these and liked them:

Yeah, me too also have stopped using the Pantene ever since they've changed it. But I've gone back to using it since the late 2000s too. Wow, I can't believe it that Agree is still around! I also used to love that shampoo and conditioner too. Oh yeah, I also used to use Infusium as well, and I used to love the scent!!! I still used the corrective leave-in conditioner, and it works my hair wonders leaving it looking and feeling nice, soft, and shiny!!! I bet that grapefruit shampoo from the Body Shop does have a very nice scent. You don't color your hair(except henna?) Ok. I always use a box dye, and the kind I use always is, "Nice N Easy." It doesn't never break or damage my hair!!!!

renia22, I just love Alberto VO5!!! Those products have been out since as long as I've been in this world!! Or, even longer....LOL I love the one that is for fullness. Which is the orange shampoo, and the conditioner I love is the one that is light orange, and it has callagene in it. I'm not sure if I'm spelling the ingredient right.:)

Dark40- Agree and The Body Shop grapefruit are long gone, those are 2 things I used in the 90s. Agree changed its signature scent in the late 90s/ early 2000s and was in Dollar Stores for a while, it was awful, lol. Then it was bought out by some other company a few years back and now it's sold in Japan. You can find it on Amazon. The shampoo sucks, but the 3 Minute Miracle conditioner isn't bad, and it's pretty close to the original scent. VO5 I used to like too, but when Unilever bought it out they changed it too much, and I don't like it anymore. I used to like the jojoba or extra body formulas. I also like the scent of Infusium :)

I miss L'oreal Color Pulse too. Fond memories of using it in middle school :)
I really miss Sunsilk Therma-Shine and No Major Issues s&c. There was a great Dove foam conditioner that I used ten years ago that vanished long ago... oh, and also Herbal Essences Drama Clean, although it's only been a few years since they pulled it. That was my HG conditioner and I have a huge stash of it saved up. Unfortunately they recently axed the Tea-lightfully Clean line too, which was a good replacement for Drama Clean :(

renia22, Awwwww, what a shame that they've discontinued selling the Body Shop's grapefruit shampoo. I've been wanting to try it out for a long time. Yeah, that 2 things for the 80s and 90s I used to use was Alberto VO5 and Pantene. Oh, I love the 3 minutes miracle conditioner from Aussie!!! I love their products!!! But these days the best hair products I love using is Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition shampoos and conditioners. Oh yeah, I just loveeeee the scent of Infusium!:)

While Syoss is so-so (their conditioner for drier hair pretty much sucks), Franck Provost's conditioner for dry damaged hair is without silicones and could replace my HG Herbal Essences Hello Hydration - it is that moisturizing! It's good and comes in a 500ml bottle, used to come with a pump (which I kept) but not any longer.
