Hey everyone,

I dyed my hair red and had to get it bleached out recently, I also had a 3cm trim and some long layers which Ive realised are a bit too short (2-4 inches shorter than my between bra strap and waist length hair. It gives more body around my jaw/neck where my hair used to look flat and boring but my ends feel more sparse now. I don't have very thin hair but I miss the fuller ends. They look a little stringy when wavy. So what's best.. full ends and flatter hair on your head/mid lengths or a bit more body higher up and less full ends? I'll probably ask for a straight trim next time, no layering. What are your opinions?

I think it really just depends on what you prefer. Nothing's really better or worse - just keep in mind that if you have a lot of layers they will slip out of braids and buns a lot. I'm sure a blunt hemline comes with its own challenges, though. Personally I like to have a little bit of layering for a more natural look, but nothing too wild - it drives me crazy when half my hair falls out of my braids! but that's just my preference. Just depends on what you like your hair to look like and how you like to wear it, I guess!

It also depends on how thick/thin your hair is. Layering in i hair, IMO, doesn't look that full or great. ii can go either way, and iii, well as a iii I have to say I love my layers.

You can cut layers yourself with the compact cut method but I wouldn't recommend this for hair shorter than BSL, because the layers will be *very* short!

Is i, ii and iii the thickness? Sorry I'm new here. I estimated that my hair is probably a 2b and my thockness was about 3 inches around (did it tightly)

I'm the same way. I think layers look better on my face, but I love a blunt, full hemline, so I endlessly debate this issue! HAHA

A hairdresser made me a bit paranoid as she said "wow your hair has thinned out a lot" but last time she saw me was 7 years ago for my wedding and this time my hair was 4 inches longer and partially straightened but it freaked me out and I've been worrying it looks thin

It's hard to choose! Layering gets rid of a bit more damage than trimming too but I do like a full hemline. I guess it's a good way to retain some length while growing out damage. But the change (having less hair hanging now) plus what she said about my hair looking thinner has made me get obsessed with thickness! Bit silly but I know there are a lot of people on this forum whose hair is important to them so I can be a bit more open about my OCD towards my hair lol

Yes it is. 3 inches sounds about ii thickness and a good average! (ii = between 2 and 4 inches).

I agree - it's a matter of preference if your hair is thick enough to support layers. I like both. I've had layers for several years now and am thinking of only trimming the bottom from now on to let the layers catch up.

I'm on this train, and also in the same boat as you. Such a pain growing those suckers out though 😝
