View Full Version : December 2015 - Hypno-Swirl bun

December 5th, 2015, 09:20 PM

A fairly easy bun that looks elegant and complicated. Sort of a flipped infinity bun held with two sticks.

Wow, I've never seen that one before. I've done that with a regular cinnabun, but never with an infinity bun. Interesting idea.

I just spent 20 minutes or so attempting to make this work. Not sure what unholy mess I managed to get together in the end but I had to take it down immediately after photos thanks to the headache it was bringing on.

Alas! Frustrating hair day for me since there's less and less I can do at this length. I also tried and epically failed the six-strand round braid that was posted on the braid thread.

Looking forward to seeing beautiful examples on other people's hair.

Also, does anyone else generally twist their hair in the opposite direction of the way that Hypnotica's demonstrating in the video? Half of my problem was switching the direction of my twist to begin with, I think.

*chuckle* Shame about the headache. It looks enormous!

I got a pic of my bun a couple days ago but it is still on the camera. I watched the video again to see her twisting direction and then couldn't remember which way I twist, so I had to take my hair down. . .I twist the other way but I must have made some mental adjustments when I was first watching videos and learning updos because I don't pay any attention to which direction people twist but automatically translate their construction to work with my habits. Brains are weird.

I couldn't do it, my hair is not long enough yet.

Well darn looks like I need to come up on two hair sticks! Merry Christmas to me, I guess I must go perchase some! the hair style look really neat

Gossamer, yours turned out much more flipped looking than mine.

And mine just looks odd, plain and simple.

I got the style to work the first time when I was testing it as a potential work style, but when I tried to do it for work, it refused to stay. I think I need more practice.

December 11th, 2015, 11:29 PM
I couldn't get this to stay. I thought maybe the problem was that I don't have enough length (a little short of BSL), so I tried it as a half-up, and it STILL didn't stay.

Oh well. Maybe I'll try it again in a year or so.

For the first time EVER I can make the do of the month. neko-kawaii, thanks so much for posting that video. You're a Lefty! So am I. I'm so excited that I can finally do a hairstyle of the month!

December 14th, 2015, 04:16 PM
I'm not sure if this counts or not! I lost a loop somewhere. I think I need another 3 or 4 inches to make this one work.

After almost 2 years of LHC, I have just now discovered this Hairstyle of the month thing, haha. :D
Anyways, here's my attempt:

December 16th, 2015, 11:23 AM
OK, here's my first attempt at a hairstyle of the month! I think my hair is just a tad too short to make it perfect; my ends stuck out every attempt. I also don't have proper hair sticks, so I got to use my plastic chopsticks for the late 1990's for this one.

This is my best looking attempt:

IIRC, Hypnotica's a lefty; I'm mostly a counter-clockwise bunner and twister... maybe I'd have better results if I did exactly what she did.

Ok I have no sticks with me at my mom's house. It worked out good though with a fork.
