View Full Version : Thread for Strawberry Blondes!

I wanted to start a thread for natural strawberry blondes because frankly there aren't that many of us! And it's hard to find any others! Not sure how many others I'll find, but if some lonely strawberry soul comes across this thread and feels excited, that's a job well done. haha.

Here's me! Obviously my hair is short and a long way from my goal! I was younger here. So much skinnier...

My hair seems to have gained a pretty solid streak of white blonde, as you can see in pic below. Lots of pure white hairs happening all over - my dad (natural redhead) was totally white as snow by 35 and I'm 28 so hmmmm...not sure what my hairs gonna do lol. but honestly what color is that part? Do you think it looks neutral, or warm, or ashy? Opinions please. :P Been dyeing hair more red to deny the whiteness, growing it out but its only an inch or so and I can't tell what color is it, so maybe an opinion on the color of that streak?

http://s14.postimg.org/gttk90ipt/three.jpg

Hope to see some pics of YOUR strawberry blonde! Or light red, whatever! ;) I hope there are a couple in LHC!

Not a strawberry blonde, but wanted to say your hair color's very pretty :)

I'm far from being a strawberry blonde, but i love love love your hair colour.
I've always been a fan of strawberry blonde and ginger...

Red.

I'm fully red but my sister is strawberry blonde. She doesn't like it but I always tell her she has the most unique hair color, very hard to archieve (believably) with a dye. She even put some blonde streaks in it...what a bummer to mess with such naturally pretty hair in my opinion. Anyway, I love your strawberry blonde hair, very pretty. :)

Probably not seeing the original strawberry pics or the "white blonde" either, you've possibly changed pics since then. The photos I see look pretty vibrant. But your red is very pretty. What are you brightening with?

I think might also be because the thread is 5/6 years old. ;)

I think we may have the same hair color! Yours looks a tad darker near the roots in that photo, and perhaps the length has lightened a bit in the sun? If so, that's what I have! I could be totally wrong though. I threw some photos in an album so you could see: http://imgur.com/a/1sQN3qg (they are in order of age)

Maybe yours is similar? If so I'm going to make the case that its actually auburn! I was born with strawberry blond, but once I got older (as a toddler) it got darker and browner, like a light auburn brown. It lightens very quickly in the sun and looks lighter and redder. In some lights it has orange/yellow/red tones, in other lights it looks incredibly ashy and mousy or brown. Does yours do that also?

If so, perhaps you have similar genetics! I am a "compound heterozygote" for two MC1R variants, so I'm kind of a redhead. I consider myself an auburn, since the majority of people in my adult life call it that. I have all the other fun stuff that redheads have to deal with, like melanoma risk and reactions to anesthetics and sun intolerance, but I hesitate to call myself a redhead. I think gingers and strawberry blonds are folks that make only pheomelanin (strawberries less so than gingers, or perhaps theirs faded from ginger to strawberry), and auburns make both pheomelanin and eumelanin. I think the sun tends to destroy eumelanin more readily than pheomelanin, and that's why the sun lightened ends look strawberry.

I might be wrong about your color, but I thought it was worth writing all that because most of my life I never knew what to call my hair, and it was always kind of annoying, so I figured you might be in the same boat! I've obviously thought about this too much, but I blame other people for arguing with each other over what my hair color is my whole life. I eventually said to hell with it, I want undeniably red hair, I'm going to use henna, and now nobody will question it anymore haha.

Oh my gosh THANKYOU for writing so much! I only just thought to check for a reply :) so sorry about the delay!

What you have said is spot on! All of it. And we have pretty much exactly the same colour hair :)

My husband calls me a redhead but I think it's mostly due to the freckles and pale complexion. But yes, my hair turns a lot more red in the summer, the darker hair nearer my roots just hasnt been exposed to the sun yet :)

Hair twins! ^_^

Solidarity! So you know how it feels to not really belong to the redhead, brunette or blond category, haha. My boyfriend also considers me a redhead. Also got the freckles and pale skin. I never identified as a redhead growing up. When I was a little kid I just called it brown, since it wasn't pure red. Some consider auburn a type of red I suppose. What did you call it growing up?

(Sorry about the delay, been having a super busy few weeks)

Growing up everyone referred to my hair as auburn after it darkened a little once I turned about ten. Up until I was ten, I was bright orange and i was definitely referred to as ginger haha. My red is really starting to show up with the springtime sun. Give me a sec I'll post a photo ... :) x

I have some streaks that other people call strawberry blonde and I call orange.
Would this be auburn, do you think? I was blonde as a kid (with red highlights), but it's gotten both browner and more red with age, even without sun exposure:

My mom is a true redhead and I have her complexion, except with an even greater tendency to sunburn.

Oh, okay, so you ARE a redhead, lol. I'm not a ginger, and never was. I never had pure orange hair that faded or darkened, mine has always just been reddish. I love your current color though!

Maybe light chestnut? That's what I've recently started thinking of my natural color as (like very recently). I only just heard the term and looked it up a couple weeks ago, heres an example from Google: https://i1.wp.com/justsellmyhair.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/20170507_1425271-0bfc1bb0-scaled.jpg?fit=1920%2C2560 Yours looks kinda like mine, and I think mine is on the cusp of being auburn, but I think light chestnut is more accurate. Thankyou :) to be honest since growing my natural colour out I've been surprised how much the sun has brought out my childhood orangeness haha, I've never really given it a chance to shine through any more than about 2 inches of roots since I started dying it in my early teens. And as you can see it's a lot more ashy nearer the roots. The sun has definitely played a part in the colour it is right now! Irony is, I've been using henna and dyes the past decade to get it to this exact colour...

Hmm I think you're right. I looked at more pics of chestnut hair and it looks like a rich deep brown color, not a light reddish brown. I think we're all three a shade of auburn then :) Now I can stop having a hair color identity crisis.

What color did you dye it as a teen? I'd love to see a pic of your childhood color if you have one you are willing to share! And yeah my roots always looked ashier than the length, ever since I was little, so I think the sun plays a factor in the color for sure. Mine was reddest when I was 21, but even then you can see the roots were more brown looking: http://imgur.com/a/oPdVXan

Ah, Gordon. Yes, it's definitely red, thank you. Ah, also thank you for saying that I have a welcoming smile too.
If any of you guys want to know how I achieve this shade of red is I lightened my hair with the lightest blonde shade by Clairol Nice N Easy 4 times, and then I applied a temporary hair color made by Adore in the shade of Sunrise Orange, and this is how I got the result of red that I have now. :D

I'm not strawberry blonde anymore, I'm reddish brown (probably a medium golden brown). Here's a picture of me from Halloween 2011:

And here's what it looks like now (last year's Halloween picture):

You can thank chemo for that, since it grew back this color, only my body hair is still strawberry blonde (weird), probably because you have more hair follicles on your head, and these ones were the only ones effected.

If I knew in high school that I would get breast cancer (it was my left breast that I wear a prosthetic for, since I opted against reconstructive surgery) and chemo would turn my hair brown, I would have never dyed it this color (it was during my senior year, since I dyed it blonde in grade 11) in the first place!:brickwall

Lady Winchester I think regrettable hair colours are just a fact of life particularly in the teen years. Very frustrating in hindsight. I wish I'd been able to experience my last years of blonde hair but alas, I dyed it purple and then brown.
I didn't realise chemo could change one's hair colour, but I had heard of a change in texture, and given the nature of such harsh treatment it does make sense!
