So I thought it would be fun and an encouragement for us to show our photos from one year of growing, I know it isn't quite the end of the year yet, but wanted to show a year of growth for myself. I have probably trimmed at least 3 inches, maybe a little more in the last year:

I don't take pictures enough to have exactly a year apart, so this is just over a year. Left is end of october last year, right is half of november this year. I did trim little bits in between. Apologies for the crappy bathroom pictures.

First one is January 13th of this year, second is November 13th. Successful pixie growout and fading red hair back to natural ashy dark blonde without a noticeable demarcation line:

How did you do that? Your hair grew so much in one year! You went from BSL to almost hitting where you pants line was in your Nov 2014 photo is. And this is with a trim.

Rainn, how tall are you? Is 71cm your current length (measured from front hairline)? If you are a shorter person that might make the length difference look more dramatic, though I think either way you've gotten some great growth, and I am envious! :p

I haven't updated the stats on the sidebar since I started here, so the 71cm is the measurement of BSL hair (from front hairline).
I'm 170cm tall. When I measure how much growth I got in a year its approx 20-30cm. :)

Perhaps not the best comparison due to the differences in camera angle and lighting but they're almost exactly a year apart. This is taking into account a trim of around 4cm, and monthly micro-trims of 0,5cm, so a total of around 9cm has been trimmed off.

Think goodness for time stamps cameras put on photos because this collage would not have been possible. These pics aren't the best because from 2012-2013 I was not documenting my hair progress. I had one good picture from the back and it was only because my boyfriend said "your hair looks really long" and I asked him to take a picture. Otherwise, these are just random everyday pictures.

The first picture is from Dec 2012, about WL hair (unstretched). Then I cut 7+ inches in Jan 2013. No clue why. In July2013 it seems to be heading back to WL, and then in Nov2013 it looks to be somewhere between hip and tailbone.

I made another collage for 2011-2012. I put a line in each picture indicating my waist. I cut my hair in Nov2011, as pictured, from HBL to about BSL . I got to MBL by Aug2012. It appears I was about WL in Dec 2012.

Hello! First time poster, long time lurker here... I finally hit the one year mark after getting the pixiest of pixies. A couple of severe mullet trims later, I am at mid-neck length and quite proud of it, considering my giraffe neck. I fear that any and all trims until past the shoulders will cause a tragedy so I am doing CO-wash once a week and moisturizing the ends with coconut oil. Voila!

I've had several trims over the past year, including one right after I saw my ends in that November 30th picture. My hair has a ton of awkward "projects" all over. Because of bleach damage from years ago, portions of my hair underneath are still shorter than my longest pieces, and I've got some truly awful layers right around my face that I'm desperately trying to grow. I'm aiming for classic length hair, but I feel like I'll still be working on these "projects" well after I get there.

I had crazy hair breakage due to bleaching, so I lost a lot of volume on the ends :(

Also trimmed a lot and in incorrect ways, that made it look even thinner. Hair pre LHC... I hope to have better results next year :)

My first 12 months at LHC; the end of April 2014 and 2015, which included trims totalling just over an inch in March and April.

Thanks. It's fun to look back and see how much it has changed. And I agree about the beard. My wife insisted that if I was going to grow my hair I grow all of it since she is a fan of facial hair. Definitely a wise choice as they complement each other very well.

Naw, thank you, Mimha! I have mutual admiration for your hair and the journey you've been on. This time around, your hair is so much fuller and happy! :) And yes, I've been cutting hair (my own and others) since I was 15, so am happy to meddle a bit with the way mine looks and feels (a blanket of lots of fine hair didn't suit my climate). I'm now happy with growing this current style longer, though, with just a dusting when needed. There are pics in a folder on my profile (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=12420) of how my shaping morphed over the year (it even had a deeper U for a while there that didn't work for the see-through whites that were revealed).

Nice work! Not a whole lot of length but I think the thickness and condition makes up for it. Is that your natural hair colour? One pic looks way redder than the other. Or maybe it's just the lighting..

I know that feeling!

I didn't do 'colors' but went blonde for some 20 years (30-50); it was my childhood color.

What I didn't realize was that I had darkened up as I got into my 30's, and when a stylist messed up my color/fried my hair requiring a chop from waist to chin , I had them color me to match my roots.

What a shock to me and my family when I came out of there with a chin length dark blonde/light brown head of hair :laugh:

But I was thrilled to finally see ME as I was celebrating my 50th....and it was MONTHS before anyone believed I was actually that color (many thought I was a natural blonde) :wink:

These photos are exactly one year and one month apart. In June of 2014, I did a big chop from hip to somewhere between APL and BSL. The first photo shows untrimmed growth from that big chop. It's above waist here by an inch or two, I think.

This second photo was taken today. Between the two photos, I've had 2 trims of about 1.5 inches. I had layers cut in the first time to help get rid of damage, and now I'm once again growing them out. Solid hip, with 4-5 inches until BCL.

I'm very pleased with my growth this year. After this year I am now in the waist/hip realm which was my original idea of goal when I first joined. Of course that goal changed, to knee, but now I feel satisfied with my hair and evebn though I want it longer I dont feel like its "too short" or not long. 'm dissapointed that I couldnt get my ends to lie down flat for the pic, so it doesnt show the progress of my hemline. But I took 2 inches off of it and it is straighter than it shows.... more like the left side but on both. Honestly though both sides are flipping out and up -_- There is still a slight U... but irl I can tell the two inches really straightened it out when I am combing my hair, ect.

I took a braid pic and I will post that and also add a pic in the same outfit to the first pic, showing quarterly progress from last new year to this one. I'll do that when I get home tonight, and post it in the quarterly thread. before my first microtrim...(so nervous...) Also btw I am wearing a folded up tank top! lol.

This year I plan to trim another blunt 2 inches. So at the end of the year I hope to have a straighter hemline, 2 inches less of dye damage (you cant see the demarcation line but about 3-4 inches of my hair still has bleach/ dye in it. I also hope to be at tailbone length, on my way to classic!

When you are growing, you feel like it is taking ages to move down a few cm and to feel that you have gained some length ! But when you actually compare pictures at several months interval, you realize how much you have actually grown without really noticing^^

I was lucky enough to find two comparable pictures (from my left side, though) : one from end of May 2015 and the other of a few days ago. And wow, it's nice to see the difference ! :) :) In May 2015 I was beyond BSL since a couple of months, and now I am about to hit hip.

... and next year, my hair will be too long for the picture, ha ha ha ! :disco:

Thank you Shepherdess ! I am indeed positively surprised by the total length gained. But my growth is quite in the norm, you know. I have not trimmed much, that's probably the secret^^. I don't think I grow more than 15 cm a year, which make about 12 cm when I take the trims away. :)

I take this opportunity to tell you that your ends look very nice to me. Your hemline is just awesome : I don't see anything to pick on, seriously. And what a perfect U-shape !! What about giving those ends a chance to grow ?? Lol. As long as they are healthy, it's not a problem if they get thinner the longer they go. I think it can be very hot on a guy who can rock the "Apache-like kind of look" as you can !

Thought I'd add my yearly progress. Well, just over a year!!!

The first pic shows how bad my taper was, I never wore my hair down while it was like this. I was and still am recovering from hairloss/great shed.

The second photo is after I trimmed back 3 inches to just above apl.

The third photo is how it is now. I still have a fair bit of taper, but I'm not too embarrassed to wear my hair down anymore.

Since the second photo was taken this time last year, I have trimmed another 5 inches.

The second photo is after I trimmed back 3 inches to just above apl.

The third photo is how it is now. I still have a fair bit of taper, but I'm not too embarrassed to wear my hair down anymore.

Since the second photo was taken this time last year, I have trimmed another 5 inches.

Thank you so much! Seems super slow once I started following it, though :( Now I'm wondering whether I should just go back to not doing anything special with it. Though... I'm not sure if washing methods or mister bottles will change growth rate. Probably like watching a clock tick, time barely moves at all :)

Thanks :) I think that is what's great about this thread, you sit there thinking you're stuck in an endless loop making no progress. But when you compare yearly photos it cheers you up to actually see real progress. I love looking at everyone's progress, there is such a wow factor to the comparisons.

I didn't really take very many pictures of my hair in 2015 besides this and a few in late June and September (which I will wait with the ones from late June to compare for later this month).

I did not realize I had made so much progress, even though my hair seems to currently be in a stall since it hasn't grown much longer since September 2015. It seems my hair thickness has come back a lot after the massive shed I had in 2014 too. Counting the braided parts, it looks like 15 in comparison to 10 from the year before (I think my hair length was at 42.5 inches around March 2015, and it was around 46-47 inches April 2016). :D

I like this thread and I like to look at everyone's hair evolution so much ! :) :) Of course there are ups and downs, ends maintenance, trims, trials and mistakes, stalls and frustration here and there, but on the whole there are also so much wonderful progresses !

I post here my last picture of the year (before the one I will post on the Monthly thread, in order to close the 2016 sheet), and I am positively surprised to see that my hair has grown more than what I had the feeling it had. I'm still very far from TBL but I already have the feeling that my hair is "interestingly long", lol. I just hope I will recover soon from this awful seasonal shedding I'm still going through. Oh well !... So happy to see the end of year holidays to get some rest and hair pampering time !... As we say : "chi va piano va sano, e chi va sano va lontano" ! (who goes slowly goes safely, and who goes safely goes far/long ^^).

My hair is now nicely covering all my lower back, and this makes me start "feeling long" again. So despite the fact that I have only grown about 10 cm this year, I have the feeling that I have really turned a corner when I passed hip. And that's so cool !... :)

Thank you CoveredByLove ! :flower: I work on those ends : I keep them trimmed and gathered so they remain as thick as possible to grow on, because I know that after tailbone they will start fairytaling noticeably. And as I would like to reach fingertips... :p :wink:

... and by the way, I totally share Jennah's amazement about your hair : I checked your post and just couldn't believe you have grown SO MUCH, taking into account your (totally thudworthy, lovely, shiny) curls + the 1'' trim !! :thud::thud:You have very beautiful hair ! :)

I always trim with my hair dry because the top of my head is curlier than the underneath. I always trim just the longest hairs. But somehow, my hair looks layered, therefore making the ends look tapered/thin. I gently blow dried it straight recently just to prove it was indeed one length...and it was! Long story short, I think I'd almost have to have an undercut to get my ends to look as thick as yours! I guess I'm destined for fairytale ends. :o

This is my progress from Feb 2016 to a couple of weeks ago. Iv had a tiny trim since then to take some of the horrible ends off but havnt got updated photo. I had a big chop on Feb to get rid of damage and only bleached twice this year. my goal is BSL and then maintain there until my hair is healthy.

Yes, I use henna :) I am naturally a light ash blonde, but this is many layers of henna :P

The first photo was taken in February 2016, the second one was taken today. I'm pretty happy with my growth as I cut off at least three inches last year. My ends are a little uneven as I've been trimming them myself. My plans for this year is to trim my ends just enough to even them out and then just let my hair do its thing. I'm also working on growing my natural color out, luckily my natural color is only a little darker than the color it's dyed so the process shouldn't be too bad.

January 2016 and January 2017. It's been exactly a year since I chopped my MBL hair and it's almost back to the same length already! Hoping to hit waist this year and get rid of some of the tapering. Ordered a nice pair of hair scissors as a Christmas present to myself and plan to take up microtrimming + S&D! Yes I know I should give up the bleach! :( I'm just not prepared to do it just yet. This pic also reminded me that I should probably tone my hair soon.

Thank you, I really feel I'm close to get my hemline to be as thick as I want it to be, but not too thick but healthy as it's so much easier to do buns tucking in your ends when they are not too blunt and thick.
