View Full Version : where to sell hair?

Hi everyone,
For the past few weeks I've been thinking of cutting my hair because I've been getting bored with it and feel like I want a change. After reading several posts on here, I thought of donating my hair to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths. I also saw that some people mentioned selling hair and then donating the money to a charity. Has anyone done this? Where could I sell my hair? Do wig companies just buy someone's lopped off ponytail? Or would I have to sell it on ebay? Any recommendations or advice are welcome!

Odd question for this forum.

Sorry, no suggestions.

Why is it an odd question? I have read several posts on this forum from people who suggested selling hair and donating it to a charity rather than donate the hair directly to Locks of Love. I just thought maybe some of those people who suggested that could point me in the direction of selling my hair so that I could then donate the funds.

No suggestions here either. Perhaps you'd do better to enquire at another site that is more knowledgeable with this sort of thing.

I cannot find the thread, but I believe it was discussed on this board. I remember reading about Locks of Love, Pantene project and selling hair at *use google*. I don't know anything about the site. Maybe others can shed better light on selling hair.

I love long hair and hate to see such beautiful hair cut off. But long hair is not for everyone as short hair is not for everyone. I wish you the best.:)

Hopefully you'll get some good suggestions. I don't know about selling hair but I heard of a friend that had it done years ago.

Do remember, though, that neither LOL or Pantene will take any hair that has been processed, and I believe this includes henna. Not sure if you've done that but wanted to mention it. There is also http://www.matteroftrust.org/ - they will use any and all hair.

I hope you find somewhere reputable to sell your hair if that is the way you decide to go. :)

Yes, a quick Google search should bring up results, but please keep in mind #4 of the TOS. :flower:

Sometimes I get bored with my hair and wonder why I'm growing it. It only is a phase for me and I think most people will think of it from time to time because of upkeep and the such.

Please make sure that is what you want to do, your hair is so pretty and I would hate for you to have to regret your decision.

Thank you for all of the suggestions and advice, everybody, I appreciate it! :flower: I am still thinking about what to do and I haven't made up my mind yet if I want to cut. I've just been getting bored with long hair lately and thought it might be fun to do a shoulder length cut with a few layers and maybe some bangs.

That's the very cut that sent me to the internet in search of help with growing out my hair again :scared:

Awww, why? :( Did you miss the length or did you just hate the cut?

Awww, why? :( Did you miss the length or did you just hate the cut?I desperately missed the length AND I hated the cut. The layers were so hard to deal with and styling a cut like that took so much time.

That's what I went through, too. I used to have waist length hair, got bored and cut to a shoulder length with a few layers and bangs.

I liked my new hairstyle first, but had to deal with problems I did not expect. Layers tend to frizz and create more split ends. I had to use a blow dryer to make it look nice, which end up damaging hair even more.

Bangs can be a pain. If the bangs get a bit too long, they get in my eyes. So I have to keep trimming every month. It is a pain to grow out bangs once cut.

I cannot self-trim layers, so I had to go to a salon quite frequently.

Updos are difficult with layers. The only updo I manage to do was a french twist. There were not many optional arrangements.

Anyway, I really don't recommend layers... :(
Now without bangs and layers, I spend less time styling and enjoy different updos.

It is easy to cut - takes years to grow back...
I made that mistake few times...
Just go to the hairdresser and ask there - but there would be times when you'll regret it...

I too also cut off all my pretty hair in lieu of a layered shaggy shoulder-length cut. Only I got someone that wanted to give me a graduated bob a la Victoria Beckham regarless of how many pictures I had showed her of what I wanted. To fix it, I ended up with a razored near pixie cut. I thought it was cute, after I got over the shock, but then I realized after a month or so that I was really over the whole short hair thing. I felt boyish, unsexy, etc. I had cut off all my pretty natural highlights and it is growing out looking rather ragged on the ends but I can't stand it being short so I won't trim.

Always always always wait to make a decision like this. I did it to donate to LoL, and my knowledge about them now has left me pretty bitter about my sacrifice!

Have you tried using Taaz.com to try on the shorter style for you? And remember, once you have shorter hair, you HAVE to style it to look cute. Most people can't just wash and go. Be prepared to be OBLIGATED to mess with it every day.

Good luck with your decision! I think the cut you have in mind sounds fun, I love that length, too, and have never been without bangs ;)

I advise that you follow the "wait two weeks" rule before cutting, if you haven't already.

That being said, a coworker just had her lifelong classic length hair cut to a shoulder-length pageboy bob with bangs, and (after I got over the initial shock) I realized that she looks completely adorable that way. On her, shorter may actually be better. I note, however, that she had it blunt cut - probably to make it easier to grow out again. Just in case.

You've got to do what makes you happiest.

Thank you everyone for the support and encouragement!
I have veen playing with different hairstyles over at taaz.com and that's giving me some ideas. I've been thinking about cutting for more than two weeks, but I'll sleep on it some more before making any rash decisions. We'll see...

I made that same cut to the shoulder length layered with bangs from TB. I donated it to locks of love which just eats at me now that I know what a BS operation that it is. I cried for days and days after that cut, but I cut it right after my mom died which was not the best move. I just wanted an outward change to show my grief.

Spend some serious time thinking about it. It took years to grow to the length that it is and all of that could be gone in a moment.

Remember too that the styles there on taaz might not be doable with your hair type. My hair is a 5.5" pony and will never look sleek and edgy like most of those styles. Likewise if you have very thin hair you'll not have the lovely full look some of them have. (another reason the victoria beckham bob bushed out on me!!) :p

Good point! Programs like taaz can't account for weird cowlicks and parts, either (I have these ), that will affect the way hairstyles will look.

Good luck with your decision!

The reason *I* find it an odd question is that in this thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=13519), posted only 5 minutes later, you sounded unhappy that your friends were badgering you to cut your hair.

Its your decision at the end of the day, but please think carefully about cutting your beautiful hair. Like a poster said above a minute to cut, but years to grow back.

I had my waist length hair cut by a hairdresser who misunderstood the difference between 4" and 30 odd inches in 2005 and ive been growing ever since, only just BSL now it will take me another year or so to get back to there, every day I regret ever walking in the salon.

Your hair is beautiful and I know its easy to get bored and want a change, why not try a faux bob for a week or two and see how you adjust to shorter looking hair, this may help you make your mind up.

What ever you decide, good luck with it xxx
