View Full Version : Hair band damage already

I've been wearing my hair in a high ponytail at work. Not too tight, mind, but obviously too much for my poor baby fine hair :( I hate when it's all over the place at work, especially when I'm sporting the Supermullet. But I guess it's time to settle in and wait....patientlyshudder: for my hair to grow to braid length.

What sort of band do you use?

You may be able to do french or dutch twin braids if you can ponytail any significant amount of your hair. I've been doing them since the short bits at the top of my head hit the tops of my ears.

I don't recall the name, but they're not fabric and have no seams. They do the least pulling of any hair band I've ever owned, and I've tried several of the common brands.

I find the little terry cloth ones to be the least damaging.

Thanks Nique1202, but not yet. My hair is really slick. I can manage to hold a french braid for almost long enough to take a picture of it now. And twin braids don't work with these cheek bones; they haven't since the 4th grade.

Terry cloth? They always looked to rough to me. But I'll give them a try.

Very sorry to hear about the damage. I really hope it's not that bad, and maybe just a lot of hairs got extra crimped at the pony base, but can be brought back to their normal state with deep treatments (oiling, protein, etc) and laying off ponytails? :flower:

For putting hair up, why not experiment with claw-clips at this length, if you want to keep hair out of your face? You could do half-ups or peacock twists or French twists, maybe?
These half-moon Goody claw-clips with 9 teeth (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41aHdY8H0sL._SY355_.jpg) are grippy and sturdy. And they'll probably be able to serve you at greater lengths, too. (e.g. LadyLongLocks uses them on floor-length hair in her tutorials a lot.)
If you see any seams, you can file them away gently.

Also French/Dutch braids are great at keeping hair contained, too. :)
Gibson tucks and French braid tucks are definitely worth experimenting with, too.

You beat me to suggesting this LOL ; it was my staple toy at that length.
I also had gotten pretty carved wood look claws from Claires, and Scunci octopus claws that I still use.

I just bought the last onyx Ficarre claw clip on Amazon. I hadn't even bothered to check before, it never occurred to me that Ficarre had claw clips.

There are other cheaper (safe) options too; Amazon will list them .....France Luxe etc
Lots of pretty options :)

And yet, I got a better deal for the Ficarre than for the equivalent item from France Luxe on Amazon. But, yes they have some very pretty stuff. Not that I needed to know that.:o

Thank you Meteor. I appreciate that. They're short hairs in a kind of ponytail base sort of pattern, so, well, it's a good thing I've got a long way to go yet. They'll catch up.:run:
