View Full Version : Is frizz = new hairs?

My hair has gotten increasingly frizzy the past months (or maybe I did not notice it before), it all appears to be the new, shorter hairs that are at another length than the rest, curling up or just placing themselves alone on top of the rest. But now, today, I noticed these (images below), on the front there I part my hair, all short new hairs (does not appear to be damage). I'm just amazed by how many they are, and at the same place? maybe that is how hair grows (hehu? :silly:), if so, I've never noticed before those started frizzing up!

I mean, look at this!

and to illustrate how many of them are short (quite close to eachother in length):

Maybe I'm supposed to have permanently short hairs where those are? I know I have permanently short hairs right where the hairline is, but these keep on going up along the part.

This post turned out very random, but I dunno what to think of this. Do you know what to think of this? If so, please tell me ;)

I too got those lately but I tend to believe that mine are breakage.
Though, one way to determine is by looking at their ends. If the ends are tapered then it's new growth, if the ends are blunt then it might be breakage.

Yeah, they are tapered at the end (that is why I don't believe they are breakage, but I have never really experienced breakage so I am not sure).

I think it's hard to really notice the breakage, except if you really go through all the sheds to look of they have the bulb or not. I got mine from a sugar scrub..
But yours sound like new growth, congrats for them! :)

That's not frizz, not by any means, those are wispies. We all have them! No need to worry over them so much! :)

Haha, we got a club? :p wispies sounds like it would mean something prettier than this, but sure, I can join in ;)

I don't really worry about these, they just look funny, they show more the closer to wash day I get (with not as avoiding words: the greasier my hair gets).

And thanks, I suppose, parkmikii! Not that new growth is that unusual, but yeah, better than damage.

Tapered = baby hairs :)

Yup, new hairs (mostly). I'm shedding so much lately that I'm expecting about 12 billion of them in another 3 months, unless my follicles are old enough to stop producing new hairs.

These days, my frizzies usually are newer growth. Tapered ends, plus mine curl for the first few inches of growth, so they stick out at any length. When I first joined, a lot of them were broken hairs from constant ponytails,and you could tell from the jagged ends on them.
