Hair type help/ should I layer my hair?

Hi!
I've been wanting to post this for a while, but it seems my hair always looks flat on pictures.
I'd like to know what you guys think my curl/wave pattern is..it seems too "round" to be 2c, its more like an 3a but the pieces that curl are thin and they dont curl as much.

ps: I'm a blonde, though it doesn't show, ahah :)

I have curlier and straighter pics. The underneath is kind of curlier, but the bottom inch is, despite healthy, frizzy and pointy.

My hair is blunt cut except for the front pieces, in which it kind of U's (I had bangs and I love face framing layers).

Do you think I should layer it? I love the idea of more curl but I fear losing thickness at the bottom... I'd like to know what you think I could do to get more curl or at least enhance my texture. (I'd love to actually be able to get waves/curls with more thickness in them, so the ends aren't so point looking I guess. Up close they look thick and blunt, but individually...)
I''m not used to wavyish hair, I used to have 1b hair until like a year ago!
What do you think I should do to it? I'm looking for opinions... I just fear layering it and ending up with hair that doesn't cover my back (I'm really overweight and like having my back not very exposed and feel feminine) or that you can see through... Even though I have a large ponytail circunference... And I have no idea wether my hair is fine or coarse, how can I figure it out?

This is really a matter of personal preference. Honestly, one choice is not better than another. They both have advantages and disadvantages.

Personally, I love layers and a U or V shape, but I do get braid shred (don't care) and messy buns (actually prefer it that way).

I have a U shaped hemline but don't consider it layered.
Just a guess but I'd say you're:

2c/ MC / iii

Your hair is very similar to mine.
There are curl enhancers that work well. Devacurl , Be Curly,
There are even shampoos made specifically for curly hair.
LOC works well for locking in moisture. I personally love using s touch of shea butter on my ends. I also dilute my fav conditioner and spray my hair when needed. It helps keep curls well hydrated. Hydrated curly hair curls naturally . You just have to find the right things that work for you specifically but you will.

OP- I think your hair can handle some subtle really long layering to maybe lighten it up a bit if your feeling it's getting to cape-y ...or even a soft U shape.. It's just a matter of personal preference. Your hair is gorgeous too !! :)

Give it some serious thought though..because from what I see alot of people regret them..conversely others love them..lol Again its YMMV..but start slow!

Your hair looks like type 2C to me. Mine used to be 2C, but it has gotten much straighter. I cut from classic length to waist length, V shape, and layered to try to get my curlies back (also because I injured my left wrist, which made putting a lot of hair up difficult), but it didn't work. They're gone. Too sad, too bad. I'm growing back out to classic and beyond now.

I have iii hair as well, and at waist it got too heavy for me, so I had it layered with the compact cut method (not good if you are BSL or shorter as you might end up with too short of a layering). I like it so far. I am cutting back to classic at the end of the year, going back to the other layering method in the compact cut method (there's two techniques), so... I like them both for different reasons.

Any reason why you suddenly want layers? Weight of the hair? Or just to change it up? You'll still have flat hair at that length even with layers - I promise you!

Layers might make your hair lighter and curl better, or it might not. Don't go for short layers though, it will be harder to grow them out if you do so.

There's two techniques in the CC method for layering.

- ponytail on top of head (should give longer layering but a shorter back layer, the layers are placed more together if that makes sense)
- ponytail on top of forehead (longest layer classic, shortest around waist)

You guessed it, then you snip a bit off. If you have problems reaching due to length of hair, then elastic band the ponytail further up the strand to where you can reach, then elastic band on preserving the integrity of the pony. Until you reach where to cut.

Longer than the other option. I can't quite tell you because I haven't had the other cut in years.

Long layers means to me that there's only a few inches between the shortest layers and the longest layers. All the layering is in the ends.

In your typical" cascading layer" haircut, where do they section off the bottom? I want it very thick , since I still wanna grpw it to classic and have it very voluminous(biggest reason why Id layer ot ; that pretty volume and curls) ..
Id like to see pics of those of you with layers and if you could tell me where your bottom layer starts (like, on your head.. I wonder if O could start it right above my ears) :)

You can section off halfway between temple and ears or above your ears - depends on how much volume you are willing to sacrifice to layers!

I'm 2c/3a with my canopy being more 2C, M hair, with a 3.5" pony. If I end up cutting my hair like this I'll finally make myself figure out how to post pictures :laugh:
