I'm struggling at the moment to find a leave in that will take the poof/frizz when I let my waves out with leaving my hair feeling like it is coated in glue.

I can't stand gels and just use a pea sized dab of shea moisture raw butter conditioner as a leave in (it is a rinseout/leave in type), and a squirt of their elixir on my ends.
To freshen curls and cut frizz I also spritz my ends with rosewater and glycerin and scrunch them.

I have never found a leave-in I'd like. They usually have proteins, silicones, and are often very thin. For years now I have been using my regular favourite conditoner for this. In the beginning I diluted it with water, but at some point noticed I can use it undiluted too. I'm sure not all rinse-out conditioner will make nice leave-ins (and hair type affects the outcome too), but it might be worth a try!

I tend to find a lot of leave-ins sticky, and many conditioners. Oils are often better (though mineral oil is sticky for me), but might not give you the clumping you want. Kinky Curly Knot Today seems to dry without being weird. I also find that tiny dabs of Herbal Essences Long term relationship don't seem to be sticky, though I can still feel it in my hair when I touch it after it dries.
I don't have curls though, so the quantities of these that I use are smaller than you'd want. Clumps in straightish hair isn't a look I want.
