It's Purple!!

Guess what everyone! I finally did it! I took the plunge. My hair is now a wonderful shade of purple. I couldn't be more pleased. What do you think?

I don't think I've seen a nicer gradient before, especially since dark hair seems to make that difficult. Did you have to bleach to get such a bright color?

Okay, here's what I did. (I wish I had taken more pictures of the process, but oh well.)

I used Argan Oil Lightener (from Sally's, it was a brown packet) with 30 vol bleach, mixed with several squirts of shampoo as well. I did a combo of Ombre/Balayage techniques to lighten most of it to a dark warm blonde (since I am naturally medium brown). I did this because I didn't want to have to rebleach my roots any time soon if I didn't want to. It took a couple sessions to get the lightning I wanted, spread out over a couple weeks with protein treatments in between. I ended up using about 3 packets of bleach powder.

Then, I used Special Effects Deep Purple mixed 1:2 with cheap conditioner. Deep Purple is powerful stuff; even diluting it with conditioner, my hair looked basically black right after I dyed it. This is after a week of fading.

I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. Also, I have to thank our wonderful Pastina for coaching me through the process. I would never have had the courage to do it without her.

Lovely! I have been wanting to bleach my ends so my purple will be brighter I may break down and go to a professional simply because from my experience my hair is resistant to bleaching and I don't want to destroy it. I also want to try Olaplex.
