Faux Bangs - a different approach

Usually, making fake bangs involves a big loopy bun and arranging the ends of the hair over the forehead. I have seen a few techniques of this variety. But unfortunately, it doesn't work well if your ends are not the same color as your roots.

I was messing around with rolls and came up with this alternative, reminiscent of the way my mother used to curl my bangs under for picture day.

This way, the part of my hair that would be bangs if I had bangs makes up the fake bangs.

What do you guys think? Has anyone tried this?

Please pardon the greasies, it's wash day. But I believe this would work just as well with less dirty hair!

It's really cute, but I have a hard time believing this would stay put for very long (and still look like bangs) without a lot of luck and product.

Hers is great for straight across. And @wavelength: I do not use product ever and it has stayed for hours. That's because of the roll. It anchors it well.

I am definitely going to try this. The character I want to be for Halloween this year has bangs, and I don't, and I want to try and be as authentic to the look as possible. Maybe this will help. Could you give a more specific step-by-step instruction of what you did?

Although honestly, the roll isn't REQUIRED. It's just to hide the pins and do something with the extra hair. here is another option I fiddled with when trying to make this tutorial:

Basically I rope-braided the leftover hair and pinned it behind the opposite ear. Threw on the flower to hid the pins. but it doesn't have to be a flower. It can be a bow, a fascinator, a small unlucky bird...

Anyway, enjoy guys. Loepsie's tutorial is very good too, but I just tried it and didn't like the part between the two halves. This will work best on hair that has gotten oily, but I can try it when my hair dries and photograph it for you if you want.

P.S. Forgot to mention exactly how many pins used. 2 to secure the "bangs" and 2 to secure the rosette, crossing pins of course. I didn't hide them in the tutorial slideshow so you guys can see. If you use the rope option, its only 3 pins. You can use more of course, but my hair doesn't take many pins because it's so fine.

DBF did a double take when he saw me earlier lol. He is calling it the "fake bangs loopy thing"

I love this and will definitely be trying this :) I have been playing with the idea of cutting bangs back in (though I doubt I'll make my mind up any time soon). This is a good thing to try in the meantime :)
