Hi :)

I start the nursing program last week and I need to wear my hair up almost everyday (no braids). The problem is... I don't know any style or I don't like the others. I have a hair fork, a couple of stick and a ficcare but I don't like to use them. Do you know a updo that I can do without them, without damaging my hair and the updo need to be fast. I would like to use only one claw clip (a medium or big one). I don't even know if a updo like that exist...

My hair is almost at hip (less than one inch to go), i-ii and really fine. I also have a V-cut, some bangs and front layers.

Thank you and sorry for my no awnser dilema.

ETA: Oh and my cinnamon always looks... Wierd.

The lazy wrap and nautilus buns should be no problem with your hair, and both are incredibly fast and only require one stick (or fork or ficcare) to fasten securely all day. Torrin Paige also did a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcSaBWbBYug) of hairstyles you can do on your own in under 3 minutes each, one of which is the nautilus, and she shows you exactly what kind of tools you'll need for each one.

braided french twist, couldn't find video but I have seen one. It's like the normal tucked under dutch braid, but instead of tucking under from the nape, your tuck the tail under the dutch braided part from the side, vertically.

Oh, and I can recommend spin pins, secure, fast, non-damaging in general.

At this length, I'd recommend trying out these options (some may not work due to thickness, etc...):

- Lazy Wrap Bun;
- Disk Bun;
- Braided Cinnabun.

I specialise in hairdos that take less than 10 seconds in the morning :lol:

Claw clip only? I can just about get a nautilus to hold with a claw clip but my hair isn't even waist length.

So I recommend... a folded braid! You can do the braid the night before, sleep on it and then fold it up in the morning. It's not beautiful but it is very easy to just fold the braid up in the morning, clip it and it will hold all day. Even if it comes out for some odd reason, your hair will be contained in the braid, no biggie.

I already know how to do a LWB, a nautilus, etc. I just don't like to use a stick and a hair fork.

But next week i'm gonna go bought some spin pin :D

I find claw-clip beautiful but just one, not two...

I can be picky -_-

Oh and thank you Artic for the helpfull videos. :)

ETA: Thank you two_wheels I am gonna try to hold my nautilus with a claw clip and a folded braid. :)

How about a sock bun? Easy enough and comfortable on your head.

I don't like the claw clips - I think they get in the way of seeing the updo and they hurt my head. But, that's just me. They are quick and easy if you can tolerate them.

I used a claw/cinnabun for a couple years before lhc made me realize other styling accessories exist. I tuck a loop into the last row of my cinnabun and fasten that to the loop securely with the claw before opening slightly again to attach it to my scalp. I made a picture to describe it to meteor before: (follow clockwise)

The picture has the hair fork I use now instead of my claw; it's a little harder to get in comfortably but I can lean my head back on the chair with it.

As for looking weird, if you ask me, it's okay to look weird or to have a not-perfect do. Embrace your uniqueness :o

A folded english braid secured with a barrette worked great for me 45 years ago as a nurse ;)

Good luck with your studies :thumbsup:

That and a pony tail were the only 2 styles I had....and setting my hair with 3 soup cans in a pony tail on top of my head LOL

Oh yes, I agree with Arctic, two_wheels, and Groovy Granny! A folded braid or a braided tuck should be great! :thumbsup:

And that bun by MoreAutumnForMe is awesome, too! :applause

Another option is a Simplified Ellingwoman Braided Bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_biroGTJ7A) or Pan's Work Updo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9W-kbWPSfQ It holds like a rock! A claw-clip just needs to grab some scalp hair (at the area where the braid is pushed through) with the hair and the end of the braid, or just add a u-pin or even a bobby pin to pin the braid tassel in place.

I usually default to a lazy wrap bun, held with a stick or a ficcare. (Jaw clip might work, but I find them uncomfortable. I'd opt for a Ficcare or a really good fake for something like nursing, over a hairstick, because it's a lot less likely to fall out. As far as fake-ficcares go, the Vidal Sassoon Avian clip holds well, and the vomited-up-giraffe coloring comes off easily with nailpolish remover.)

Since I started commuting a lot farther to work though, I'm braiding my hair for the drive and then wrapping that braid into a bun and clipping it in place when I arrive. That's not only more comfortable for the long drive, but it's more secure when it's up, and if something were to knock the bun down, my hair is still contained. That's very useful in any setting where having loose hair is a liability, whether it's working with patients or in a laboratory.
