Hey
I'm looking for à conditioner with lots of slip.
So tell me:)
what's the slipperiest conditioner you've tried? And did it contain silicones or mineral oil?

I really liked the original Triple Nutrition by Garnier Fructis, and it was cone-free. Now it has amodimethicone, which I have no problem with.

I also like Hello Hydration by Herbal Essences, it's coney (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone).

I also liked Full Repair by John Frieda (very heavy on cones).

I remember there were some others I was impressed with, but I can't remember their specific names at the moment, sorry... Also, it's very YMMV. Some products may be perfect detanglers for some, but not for others.

Triple Nutrition ingredients: Water, cetearyl alcohol, palm oil, behentrimonium chloride, apple fruit extract, glycerin, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, niacinamide, pyridoxine hci, shea butter, citric acid, olive fruit oil, sugar cane extract, benzyl alcohol, chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, avocado oil, black currant seed oil, linalool, lemon peel extract, CI 19140, camellia sinensis leaf extract, CI 15985, parfum.

Hello Hydration ingredients: water, stearyl alcohol, cyclopentasiloxane, cetyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, dimethicone, vanilla planifolia fruit extract, cocos nucifera (coconut) milk, fragrance, glutamic acid, benzyl alcohol, edta, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, blue 1

Full Repair ingredients: WATER, GLYCERIN, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, DIMETHICONE, BEHENAMIDOPROPYL DIMETHYLAMINE, TRISILOXANE, CETYL ESTERS, STEARYL ALCOHOL, LACTIC ACID, FRAGRANCE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, QUATERNIUM-91, DIAZOLIDINYL UREA, CETRIMONIUM METHOSULFATE, GLYCINE, PLUKENETIA VOLUBILIS SEED OIL, MALIC ACID, STEAROXYPROPYL DIMETHYLAMINE, C14-28 ISOALKYL ACID, IODOPROPYNYL BUTYLCARBAMATE, C14-28 ALKYL ACID, TOCOPHEROL

Herbal Essences' Hello Hydration is the slipperiest of the ones I've tried (Aussie Moist, HE Moroccan My Shine, Garnier Triple Nutrition - the new yellow bottle - various V05 and Suave Naturals)

Meteor, is your Hello Hydration an older bottle? It does have a cone, Bis Aminopropyl Dimethicone, but my bottle's ingredient list is totally different.
Water, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Alcohol, Bis Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Zea Mays (Corn) Silk Extract, Orchis Mascula Flower Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Fragrance, Benzyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Blue 1

^ Oh yes, probably, TrapperCreekD. :) HH also has different ingredients in different markets. Those ingredients are on Naturally Curly (http://www.naturallycurly.com/curlproducts/view/1863/herbal-essences-hello-hydration-conditioner-orchid-and-coconut-milk).

 I agree! They want brand recognition and customer loyalty forever but they constantly change the products on offer anyway!
At some point, I just decided to never become dependent on a product (no matter how great) again. And if the product sucks, I just add some honey and/or oil or mix products together. ;)

I Love that stuff...and get some slip but not bad!

When I use it with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter I really get the slip.
A small pea size dab is all I need on the ends to get sleek.

Pantene is cone-tacular! It is chock full of silicones of every size and shape! Haha and it is truly very slippery, especially if you leave it in for 5 minutes. Plus, it's cheap!

One of my favorite conditioners is the new packaging Inecto "Argan oil" conditioner , it's cone free but is great for slip, I use it for leave in too! And comes in a big bottle for little money:)

I find that almost all conditioners containing Behentrimonium Methosulfate are quite slippy and great detanglers.

But you know what! :D I have a newly bought Hello Hydration conditioner from Boots (UK) and here's the 3rd ingredient list:

Aqua, Stearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone, Parfum, Benzyl Alcohol, Dicetyldimonium Chloride, Isopropyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Hexyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Limonene, Linalool, Magnesium Nitrate, Zea Mays Silk Extract, Orchis Mascula Flower Extract, Cocos Nucifera Fruit Extract, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, CI 42090, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid

It is a great detangler and I'm happy it doesn't contain cyclopentasiloxane. I have tried the US version a long time ago and I didn't like it. But who knows which ingredients it had back then! :D I'm not crazy about Isopropyl Alcohol because it is a drying alcohol but I haven't found this version of HH to be drying. The ingredient list is actually very similar to Aussie and Pantene conditioners except the 'oh so natural' ingredients. I find that Pantene conditioners aren't that coney anymore even though they are still slippery. My (3) bottles have this same Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone as the only cone.

For pure slip? Flax seed gel. It's lube you put in your hair.

If you want a conditioner, though, I agree with the above recommendations.

Flax seed gel sounds intresting, i didn't know it was slippery.

Anything that gives lots of slip, makes me curious.
Even if it was a conditioner i asked for.

Interesting! :D Which recipe do you follow to give you maximum slip, CurlyCap? :D

I've only used flaxseed gel for hold, so I follow this recipe, but more diluted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWaH8GIbLrM I find it very slippery on hands, of course, but I want it to make my hair super-slippery as it dries, too. ;)

I also agree with anything Pantene, and the herbal essences Hello Hydration, which I recently switched to from Pantene- and thats really saying something! Lots of slip with both, I find with HH I get less frizz though.

I always enjoy comparing the ingredients from the same products over seas- Interestingly enough, the US version has Behentrimonium CHLORIDE? and after the Bis-aminopropyl Dimethicone comes the extracts, THEN picks up and finishes starting at the parfum. No Isopropyl alcohol that I'm aware of, but Benzyl alcohol.

Any super smarties that understand the differences?

Behentrimonium chloride is an excellent detangler, that's basically all that it is but it is very good, but there are others. Centrimonium chloride is my fave. Behentrimonium Methosulfate is one of my favourite conditioning agents, it makes your hair look better and it improves static, pretty much why I like HE conditioners, most of them contain it.

I'm brain dead and can't find the US ingredients list to compare them side by side.

Behentrimonium Chloride is a great cationic surfactant that provides excellent slip.
Bis-aminopropyl Dimethicone is a silicone that's not supposed to build up too much (it depends on the hair, I guess).
If you want to read about those ingredients in more detail and specifically what they do for hair, check out SwiftCraftyMonkey, The Natural Haven Bloom, Science-y Hair Blog, Curly Nikki and the Naturally Curly - they all cover ingredients in detail.

About drying alcohols... I think they are a problem only in badly formulated products IMHO. Drying alcohols can work as solvents and allow for more moisturizing, emollient ingredients like oils to have better spreadability and better penetrating ability, if well-formulated. Basically, I agree with the position of the Beauty Brains and Future Derm (https://www.futurederm.com/why-alcohol-in-skin-care-is-safe-despite-what-paula-begoun-says/, https://www.futurederm.com/is-ethanol-in-skin-care-products-safe/, https://www.futurederm.com/is-sd-alcohol-harmful-for-the-skin/) that drying alcohols are OK and can actually increase moisturizing quality in well-formulated products (more solvent ability allows to formulate with higher % of more emollient ingredients, which can penetrate better in presence of SD alcohol). Some of the most moisturizing products I've tried (including Hello Hydration) contained alcohol.

About the presence of isopropyl alcohol, I think you might enjoy reading this: http://thebeautybrains.com/2014/04/why-is-there-isopropyl-alcohol-in-my-conditioner/

By the way, has anybody tried 2 or all 3 (or more, if there are more! ;) formulas of Hello Hydration conditioner and compared them? :) I'd love to know how their functionality differs. :)

Bumping this thread, because I'm also looking for a new slippy conditioner!

The most slippiest conditoner I've experiences is Pantene 3 Minute smooth, but I got it from Amazon US and at the moment they have temporarily restricted shipping to Europe :(. I could also order one from the DM, but the European ingredients are different (they included isopropyl alcohol and salty thickeners) and I don't know if they are as slippy as the US ones.

lapushka, what are your experiences with Pantene compared to HE Hello Hydration? I've tried the HE Argan Oil Of Morocco tube once from the local drugstore but it wasn't as slippy as Pantene.

I looked at the DM and I see they can only deliver to a German address :(. I live in NL but I see they have a "personal shopper" called dmdrogist.nl, but currently no Pantene.
But I wonder whether the European formulations of Pantene are also that good because unlike the US ones they contain Isopropyl Alcohol and salty thickeners. But if I also heard good things from the European ones, then it's worth considering to try.

Do you prefer the Repair & Protect or the Moisture line? Which conditioners of the moisture line have you tried?

This has piqued my curiosity - we have an opportunity to do some original research here. If we can figure out where the three formulations are sold and what's the most efficient way to ship them all to one LHC member, she could test them all out for comparison!

I prefer the moisture one, I think, but I didn't really notice a big difference between the formulas! I tried the conditioner from the Perfect Moisture line, which is discontinued now. I think the new Hydro Boost line has the same ingredients though. :)

Garnier Hair Food coconut mask is the slipperiest conditioner I've ever used. It's cone-free though and it's been very many years since I used Pantene or HE (before LHC I used Aussie) so I don't know how it would compare. However my hair was not impressed with its moisturising power - maybe adding an oil would have helped. But the slip was out of this world!

I second meteor on the Triple Nutrition by Garnier Fructis. I also think Damage Eraser Conditioner also by Garnier Fructis has a lot of slip as well, and also HH. Another one of my favorites with a lot of slip, and it has silicones in it is the, "SiliconeMix Deep Conditioner." They have 2 of them. One that is in regular formula, and one that has Bambu in it. They call it, "SiliconeMix Bambu." Oh yeah, and another one of my favorite slipperiest conditioners are the Garnier Banana Hair Mask too like what MusicalSpoons said.

According to my memory, I'd have to mention two silicone-free conditioners: Garnier Respons (whatever-Blends) Coconut Water & Aloe Vera Gel, and Superdrug Coconut Water.

Both of them have coconut water in them, interestingly. :D I just remember them giving me some very good slip!

Kinky Curly Knot Today (KCKT) is my slip benchmark for comparison with other cone-free conditioners, so I can ask on a CGM group how the slip of Garnier Banana Hair Food compares with KCKT

Do you mean with "HH" Hello Hydration?

And which one is slippier: Silicon Mix or Garnier Banana Hair Food?

I'm ok with cones, but I'm also open to cone-free ones if they are as slippery as Pantene.

I'm going to need a new slippery conditioner at some point, once what I have runs out. I'd been using an old bottle of TIGI Moisture Maniac (I think it may have been discontinued by now) and recently tried a new conditioner (herbal essences "rose hips smooth") for the heck of it without paying attention to the ingredients.

Turns out ingredients do make a difference and the new conditioner didn't really help much with detangling my hair, which I was disappointed about. Maybe shorter-haired folks could get away with using it, but it made me realize I need to look for conditioners with behentrimonium methosulfate, which is what the TIGI conditioner has. I have another conditioner (Aveeno Pure Renewal) that has behentrimonium chloride in it, but it's not quite as slippery as the TIGI conditioner. But it's better than the Herbal Essences rose hips conditioner, which doesn't have either of those ingredients.

The regular Pantene conditioners can't touch the Hello Hydration, by a mile!

If you're good with cones, Hello Hydration for sure, but it's not moisturizing at all (to me).

One with cones that I do like is the GF coconut milk and vanilla extract. It just has amodimethicone but is both slippery and moisturizing.

Biolage ultra hydrasource is awesome, but I recommend getting a large bottle during a sale as its a much better deal. This one is cone free.

I also understood that Behentrimonium Methosulfate (BTMS) is usually more slippy than Behentrimonium Chloride (BTC), but in practice that's not always the case: for example, my experience is that the coney Pantene 3 Minute Smooth & Sleek with BTC surpassed all the cone-free BTMS conditioners, while the coney HE Argan Oil Of Morocco (https://www.kruidvat.nl/medias/sys_master/front-prd/front-prd/ha5/h9b/11756727173150/Herbal-Essences-Argan-Oil-of-Morocco-Conditioner-4766315-1.jpg) conditioner with BTMS wasn't so slippy (both Pantene and HE have Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone)

I have to give the award for slipperiest conditioner, so far, that I have tried, to the 3 minute miracle tube by Pantene (repair & protect version). OMG, that thing is awesome.

How does it compare to my HE Hello Hydration? It is more slippy during the wash (the Pantene) but where detangling after the wash comes into the picture, they both brush out the same. Quite tangle free, so brushing through is *very* easy.

But that tube is almost empty after 2 uses. I think I can squeeze 3, maybe almost 4 uses out of it, if I try my best.

Yeah, I haven't tried enough different conditioners to tell for sure if one ingredient is always more slippy than the other; I thought it might also vary due to the specific formula of a given product, kind of like what you're talking about. The next time I'm at the store I'll have to see what selection they have. I might give some of the suggestions in this thread a try, perhaps HE Hello Hydration or maybe one of the Garnier Fructis ones.

When I initially tried the HE rose hips conditioner on a whim (a very un-slippery conditioner), I was surprised when it wasn't as slippy as my usual conditioner because I had never bothered to pay attention to the ingredients before. I had just been using my regular conditioner for ages and assumed all conditioners were just as slippery.

Does anyone here notice that conditioners with glycerin very high on the list aren't that so good with wet detangling? I have noticed this with ApHogee Balancing Conditioner and the OGX Bonding Plex conditioner.

Wow amazing to hear! Then I have an idea that all the 3 Minute Miracle tubes are slippy! For me it's important to have superior slip when applying the conditioner, so I want to figure out which Dutch webshops also sell the 3 Minute Miracle tubes. But first I want to try the Silicon Mix mask.

I'm looking for à conditioner with lots of slip.
So tell me:)
what's the slipperiest conditioner you've tried? And did it contain silicones or mineral oil?

For me personally, the The Body Shop strawberry conditioner had the most slip out of all the conditioners I've ever tried. It is silicone-free, and smells like candy! Usually I need whole handfuls of conditioner to wet detangle, but with this one I can use a small amount and it gets the job done. I use it with a wide tooth comb.

Ingredients are:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cetyl Esters, Glycine Soja Oil/Soybean Oil, Parfum/Fragrance, Glycerin, Isopropyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Fragaria Vesca Juice/Strawberry Juice, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Citric Acid, Salicylic Acid, CI 14700/Red 4, CI 19140/Yellow 5.

I picked up a Pantene and a Garnier Fructis conditioner on my last shopping trip. Not the precise ones recommended here, unfortunately, as their selection was pretty limited. But so far the GF is quite slippy and the Pantene is ridiculously slippy. I barely used any leave-in detangler. Thanks for the recs, I’m super pleased!

I gotta say Aussie 3 minute deep treatment with superfruit...I couldn't even wear pins because they were slipping right off my hair.

I remember when I had 1b/c hair and my hair did that. Ah... memories... Then puberty hit. ;) The Aussie 3 minute is nice and all and quite compares to my HE Hello Hydration, but it's more expensive where I live. But then we can't get the HE HH anymore here, so I'm guessing it's between the Pantene golden tubes and the Aussie for me. :)

Yeah, what's with the price of Aussie in Europe, seriously?! Like €8 for those tiny 150-200 ml bottles/tubes.

Yikes! I used to get the 250ml on offer for usually 2 for £7 or 3 for £10 - though way back when I first started using it, I got 3 for £7 and had a shock when it went up

Yes! 8.99 or so, that's about the price here in my local Albert Heijn (AH).

Really? I think mine was like 5-6 Euro...I mean it is still more than others.

I use flax seed gel to style. That being said, i love adding the flax gel to my conditioner for added more slip because this curly girl needs it😁

I have recently tried both Silicon Mix and Pantene 3MM Smooth & Sleek and here are my experiences:

Silicon Mix melts away the tangles very well once worked up into the hair with enough water and condish, and after rinsing off, my hair felt soft and silky but it comes at the cost of definition if I don't apply thick styling creams.
But Pantene 3MM Smooth & Sleek clearly feels slippier on the surface than Silicon Mix, so that one still performs the best for me when it comes to detangling.

I also have tried Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Smooth (when I couldn't order Pantene) but it wasn't as slippy and detangling as the aforemetioned ones. The only reasons I could think of are a different conditoining quat (Steramidopropyl Dimethylamine) or Aloe Vera as 5th ingredient.

When I tried FSG, I got a bit of flash-drying but maybe I have to play around with the cooking time.

I just got a chance to try out Herbal Essences Hello Hydration conditioner on my hair. It's indeed pretty slippery and I'm happy with the results. I'm not sure if it'e exactly as slippery as the TIGI Moisture Maniac I previously was using, but it's close enough and is definitely an improvement over the HE rose hips smooth conditioner, which wasn't slippery at all. I also tried another conditioner, VO5 Strawberries and Cream, which was somewhat slipperier than I expected (I wasn't expecting much; I'd chosen this conditioner purely for the scent) but not on the level of Hello Hydration or Moisture Maniac.

I guess I'll have to get a big bottle of Hello Hydration once I use up this smaller 350 mL bottle. The conditioner itself is blue in color, which was a bit of a surprise. I don't think I've ever used conditioner that's blue before. At first I thought it was just the color of the bottle!

Glad you like it. I have no experience with the TIGI conditioner. The HE HH is the best I found in the drugstore. For me personally.

I think after I finish a couple Pantene conditioners that I still have that I'll bust out the Hello Hydration again. Might even mix and match next week (with WCC). We'll see. :D

Another slippery conditioner: OGX nourishing coconut milk. I don't remember if this one was mentioned previously. I used this one while washing my hair today and it seemed about equally as slippery as Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. The consistency of the OGX conditioner felt slightly different in my hand, though I don't think that had much/any impact on how slippery it is; it was just something I noticed.

Both of those products seem to be pretty commonly available (at least in the stores around here that I go to), so that's convenient. And they are available in larger bottles too.

Update: Silicon Mix remains my favorite slippy conditioner! It doesn't cause unpleasant build-up and I can even pair it with CO washing.

I've noticed through my experimenting that "cetyl esters" in the ingredients list makes a conditioner very slippery! It's definitely something I'm on the look out for now

These are Brazilian brands, but they are available on Amazon and I believe you can order them from anywhere in the world:

Inoar Fibra de Bambu (Bamboo Fiber) Condioner
Lola Cosmetics Morte Súbita (Sudden Death) Hair Mask*
Any hair mask by the brand Skala (they can be used as regular conditioners as well)

* Fun fact! In Brazil, when a conditioner/hair mask is super slippery, we like to say that it's so slippery that it makes the hair faint. Morte Súbita is named like that to mean that it's so good that the hair not only faints, it dies on the spot. Lola Cosmetics is a very playful brand (and their products are great as well).

All of these brands I mentioned are vegan and cruelty free, and they are very, very affordable!

My holy grail slippiest conditioner is the conditioner they include with traditional boxed hair dye. My mom uses boxed dye but hates conditioner (her hair is so short and silky she doesn’t need it), so she passes hers along to me. I love it! Unfortunately the longer my hair gets, I’m finding myself using the conditioner up faster than she’s dyeing her hair. I’ve looked into buying the conditioners individually, but people are getting smart about reselling them. Right now I’m commonly finding the tubes going for $3-$4 apiece! So I’ve been looking at close alternatives. On my current experiment stack is Aussie 3 Minute Miracle and Pantene Intense Rescue shots. So far they’re both standing up well in comparison, and with a much better price point.

LavenderFaerie, I may have to go to you for advice! The only grocery store within walking distance of my new apartment is Brazilian, so after I run out of my current stash of conditioner I plan to start using the products they carry there. I have already switched over to Brazilian soap. I will look out for these brands!

slippy is easy to find, any condish that's got silicones as a 2nd or 3rd maybe 4th ingredient will be quite slippy. What I look for is something that will detangle but also be very moisturizing so once my hair is dry it's still super soft and detangled and hydrated. Garnier Argan Richness conditioner is SO good for this. Has amodimethicone quite high up in the ingredients list for that slip, but also argan oil and almond oil for that soft hydrated feel . it's perfect
