What is a turd bun?

She used to wear it right on top of her head, and it was sort of a cinnabun/beebutt hybrid held with a GIGANTIC scrunchie. It was the early 90s, and sisters aren't always very nice :bigtongue:

Do a search for it here, it's mentioned several times by different members. I'm not sure that it's a specific bun, just a general twisted bun that ends up looking like a turd.

I made 3 buns that looked like turds on my old hair photo journal and I refused to post pictures , finally after much persuasion I posted a very very small picture . So small no one could see them :p
It was one of my up do failures. :D

I'm doing my best not to giggle. Generally when folks here have posted about a "turd bun", it is usually one of their updo failures, as Alley Cat suggests (although they always tend to look much better than the member thinks, Alley included).

Where did you see or hear of such a bun, and why do you want to know how to do it? :)

There is a thread in the archive all about the turd bun. It's usually a cinnamon bun fusion with bee butt bun gone wrong. I used to do these all the time due to taper which has since moved down. It looks like a weird amorphous blob as there is a lack or twisting, it come out as a half wrapped, half twisted cunnabutt. More often than not, it has a shape of a turd.

ETA, The thread in the archive was all about what we should call this bun and one of the names that stuck was the Turd bun, the other was he Lazy wrapped bun but that is already used for another bun.

Get an elastic, and form a ponytail with your hair. Wrap the elastic either once or twice around the ponytail (depending on how many times you have to go around to hold it securely.) When you are on your last wrap, pull the hair through until the ends are just dangling outside the elastic, and release. You will have one of these:

I never knew there was a name for the thing I posted pics of. I never do it in public, but inadvertedly had a friend catch me with it. She told me that it was a turd bun, and her friends confirmed the monicker. I don't really think it is an official name, the way a figure 8 can be.

Come to think of it, now that I'm looking back (this was about 8 years ago) it may have been a "doo-doo bun" that she called it. Or turd. I don't remember now. Does it really, though? I don't think anything I've seen people do with their hair really looks like poop. But then, doesn't it depend on what's poop it is? Bunny poos, for example, could look alot like a standard bun. But I'm just getting technical. :p

When I was in high school I used to flip my head forward, twist all my hair clockwise and tie it in a knot on top of my head with the end sticking out. My best friend said it looked like pterodactyl poop. Maybe this is the highly sought after turd bun.

Suuure pick on the newbie! :) It's so true though. The avatar I used to have was this teeny tiny little ball on my head. Not that my new avatar is any better but I had to showcase my around the house do! :eyebrows:

"Ode to a turd bun"

Cinnabun, Bee Butt, Nautilus, Rope
The buns that I make, do not match that scope,
Every attempt, all end up the same
Looking like turds, they just hang there in shame.

I came to this forum, to get great advice
The ladies and gents, they all seem so nice,
Instructions are great, but I know what I heard
At 7-11, "look, she's sporting a turd"!!!

I tried hard to keep all my hair in one place
but now I'm embarrassed and won't show my face,
In high school they laughed, and called me a nerd
Now I go out, and they ask "where's your turd"?

I vow to stand tall and work through the night
pleading and begging my hair to stay tight,
I try and I try, but the outcome's a "turd"
I am writing to Websters to banish that word!

Ladies and Gents, please hear my plea
if you live near, please come assist me,
I'm losing all hope, I feel I can't win
I can't bear to hear that term once again!

If we work together, I won't look absurd
I won't leave my house, with my hair "as a turd",
You're my hope, my salvation, my one last big chance
That no one will laugh if I go out to dance.

If all of that fails, I will just stay inside
become a hermit, till I get old and die,
On my gravestone I'll inscribe
"Here lies a girl, It wasn't a turd, it was a swirl"!
