Hello everybody, newbie here.

My main problem with hair is premature grays. Started getting them in late 20th (or possibly earlier but as I was dying my hair very light blond might have not noticed gray invaders).

Now in my 34 I am actually quite happy with my natural dark blond colour and just do occasional highlights to mask annoying grays.

As I am trying to stay away from all harsh chemical ingredients (all my skin care products are organic and natural) I don’t really want continue using commercial hair dyes any longer.

I spent last week reading how to use Cassia for grey hair coverage on this forum and made a little research on more natural colouring products ... so this is when I came across 2 “good to be true” products (especially first one).

1. Reparex – http://reparex.co.uk/grey-hair/

Reparex against grey hair is a cosmetic product which restores original hair colour, but is not a hair dye of any kind! Reparex restores hair colour naturally from the inside out, unlike hair dyes. Transition is gradual and nobody will ever notice you are using Reparex. Natural hair colour is achieved within 7-14 days, however, noticeable difference is visible in most cases after just 5 days of application. Requires re-application 1-2 times a week, otherwise hair go back to gray.

How does it work?
Greying hair is a natural process of aging. As we get older hair turns grey due to a natural build-up of hydrogen peroxide in hair follicles, which causes oxidative stress which oxidizes melanin and consecutively causes greying. In order to amend this process, the accumulated oxygen from oxidized colourless melanin as well as the constantly produced one has to be taken away from the hair. That’s when the two key elements of Reparex formula come into an effect. REPAREX removes Oxygen from oxidized colourless melanin using the enzyme g-reductase which binds with silver nitrate. This results in restoration of melanin's natural colour.

2. Gray Riddance (http://www.amazon.com/As-We-Change-Gray-Riddance/dp/B0085EDKPA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8) - http://perma-youth.com/

Gray Riddance is a revolutionary product. It combines the need for a permanent hair coloring system that is at the same time very effective and natural, meaning it will not harm your hair. Gray Riddance turns gray hair to a natural brown which results in beautiful natural looking highlights. There is no mess and you only have to spray it on new gray roots for three days for the gray to change to brown. Gray Riddance is the prefect solution to covering grey hair without the hassles every other option entails.

Gray Riddance fills the void in terms of safety and cost, plus may be used in conjunction with other chemical processes making it ideal for men and women of all ethnic backgrounds.

Any experience with these products or thoughts? I am seriously considering ordering Gray Riddance (concept of Reparex somehow scares me) so would love to know your opinion.

I'd stay *far* away from so-called "natural" products that claim to "repair" or "restore" gray hair. It just can't be done, unless it's something chemically covering.

At best, "natural" solutions are deposit dyes that could probably be bought cheaper and in more effective concentrations elsewhere. At worst, they could cause damage to the hair and still not achieve the result you want. I'd skip any solution that sounds too good to be true, and these definitely fit the bill.

I'd like to suggest you consider the possibility of embracing whatever nature sends you in this regard. There's this to be said for going grey young: no one you know will think you look old when you have grey hair later in life. Whereas, the efforts you put in to cover it up now could well leave you with damage that will be hard to overcome. As a role model, I'd like to suggest Emmylou Harris, who was almost entirely grey while she was in her 30s. As a younger woman, she had wonderful waist-length dark hair; these days, she has a wonderful mane of white hair.

Thank you all for reply. I made more research yesterday and these products seem to really work according to reviews. For Reparex it restores natural colour somehow (how is another question though), so if your hair were black prior gray, you will end up with black hair after treatment, if you were blond prior gray, blond colour will return and so on.
However some of the ingredients they use I never heard of so might stay away from it now.

There are more info on Gray Riddance than Reparex so might try it out first and post some pictures.

As of embracing my grays....not for me sorry. I hate gray hair (on me anyway) and there is absolutely no way in this world I am keeping them lol. To me its the same as not moisturising your aging skin as nature intended it to dry and turn wrinkly.

Here are ingredients in both products:

Reparex:

Ingredients: Water, Propylene glycol, Glycerin, Silver acetate, Biotin, Vitamin B5, Ricinus oil, Extract of rose marine, Sea salt, Perfume, α-reductase enzyme

Gray Riddance:
Water, SDA 40 Alcohol, Glycerin, DHA, Sage, Chamomile, Nettle, Black Walnut, Olive, Sea Kelp, Lavender, and Aloe.

Would be good if they skipped DHA but I guess at least ingredients in it a bit less harmful than in other commercial products of its type.

Are those products expensive by any chance? I doubt they'd do much, if anything at all. Might just as easy cover it with a semi.

I wouldn't trust a site that is in the dot UK domain but spells like "restores your own hair coluor which looks natural"
Looks like Chinenglish to me.

Not necessarily. Just because it's using plant names instead of chemical names doesn't mean it's safer or more effective. I mean, most of the "chemical" stuff we use was first derived and concentrated from plants anyway. The fact that we make it in factories now instead of still extracting it from plants doesn't mean it's more harmful.

Black walnut is the only thing in that list that looks like it might add significant colour. The rest of the plants are, at best, a conditioning treatment. Unless you have a specific allergy (like PPD, which can still be avoided if you're careful) a store-bought semi-permanent dye with no developer will be MUCH more effective, only take one or two applications instead of every day for weeks, and almost certainly cheaper in the long run.

Reparex has silver acetate, which at continuous doses will build up and while it won't help the hair color it will cause Argyria (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argyria). Aplha-reductase is used in other hair loss products. It can prevent androgenic hair loss but nothing to do with color. Biotin, and vitamin B5 are supplements that would be a lot more functional in taking them instead of putting them on skin. Also Castor oil, aka Ricinus oil, which you can get cheaper as is and put on scalp yourself to check for effect.

Gray Riddance is an herbal dye, that's it. You can make that yourself much cheaper if you want to experiment. The alcohol can be drying, these herbs can be infused in oil or in a vinegar rinse. It's a pretty standard mix other than the addition of DHA and kelp. A lot of 19th century guides have it. :)

Hello Everybody.

Here is me with a feedback on Gray Riddance (have not used Reparex).

Ok let me start its 30 USD a bottle which will last you 3-4 months depending on your hair length.

I tried this product in mid August - sprayed my hair for 3 days as suggested in enclosed instructions. First I thought its not working at all (even left quite negative review on their website) as I sprayed it for a week (instruction suggest to do it for 3 days only but as my grays remained gray I just kept on spraying them). It coloured my scalp, my face, my pillow - everything BUT my grays which was quite frustrating. So week later I just gave up and started planning colouring my hair with usual chemical die on following weekend.

However 2 days later after I stopped spraying my hair I woke up and to my surprise all grays became light golden blond! I could not believe my eyes! As time passed by they turned into creamy Champaign colour which did not fade away for nearly 2 months!

I felt quite ashamed for leaving bad review of this product but my point remains the same - it only started working after I stopped spraying hair !? I tried same product on my husband's hair and it worked perfectly fine as from day 1 we could see the difference. Totally different story comparing to my hair.

I tried this product again a week ago and all was exactly the same - I only saw result after I stopped using the spray! Crazy!

So yes Gray Riddance does what its expected - gets rid of gray hair. The effect lasts for 2 months (longer than with commercial hair dyes) and its relatively harmless (comparing to conventional dyes).

Mega advantage for me is the fact I don't have to dye all hair anymore to get rid of my grays. This product only targets white hair leaving others as they are.

Making long story short - I recommend this product for people with few grays here and there (website says up to 30% but I would say even 50% gray heads will enjoy the effect) who don't want to colour the whole head of hair to cover grays.

Tania Thank you for getting back with more info after trying Gray Riddance. Really helpful for some of us who just can not brave the henna or manage to get a Khadi mix just right : )

I guess it's not sold in Europe but I'll have a look at their website. Weird about the colour not appearing until after you stopped applying the product.

I ordered mine from Amazon. I think they also started selling Gray Riddance in Whole Foods supermarket but not sure if its still only in US. This product does what its expected to do and for 30 USD per bottle you cant go wrong.
