View Full Version : Fun trim story.

Let me share my latest trim with you, because it is a quite fun story.

Background: I trim my hair once a year and I usually go for about an inch
each time. My favourite hair stylist is located in a salon that is in the next
city over so I usually try to make the appopintment in April on my birthday as
a little treat for myself. My stylist knows about this so she usually put in
some extra effort to pamper me during the visit with deep treatments and such.
Oh, and an extra long scalp massage. Mmmmm. She does not have another client
with quite as long hair as myself so I think she likes to handle extra long hair
because she usually does not do that.

This year however, I had my birthday on Easter eve which meant that the salon
was closed. No biggie - I can book another day and also take out a vacation day
to make a whole pampering day just for myself (note: I'm in Sweden and I have
40 vacation days/year and never quite manage to take them all - a lot of days
saved up - I usually try to take a day here and there). Then I tried to book online -
funny, my hair stylist's name is not in the list. Panic - has she left that salon?!
Checked the salon's FB-page - no, she has a bummed knee and are on sickleave.

Crap. What to do?? I decided to skip the trim.

But 2-3 weeks later, I began to be FED UP with the ends, they were not damaged
but having 1/3 of your tickness at middle calf lenght was driving ME nuts.

So I decided to take the plunge and just GO SOMWERE to get them trimmed back to knee
where the rest of the hair was hanging out chilling.

A stone's throw from my work is this rather huge galleria where they have about
5-6 rather big salons. So one Friday after work, I decided on a whim to just
choose one and see if they had the time for a trim. The recpetionis
told me that it was no problem - please sit down and you shall be called.

He called one of the girls over, she was just puttering around cleaning up and
seemed to be in the Friday afternoon funk (who can blame her?) and she seemed
a bit bored and non-inspirational when he asked her to do a trim on me (Can't
blame her for that either - I guess that trims aren't really that fun to do
even though it is a part of her job). Anyway, I got called, she showed me the chair
and now the hilarous began:

Me - Uhm...do you want me to sit or stand up...?
She - *looks confused*
Me - It is probably easier for me to stand up...or I can sit...but then you would
need to sit on the floor or bend over...
She - *still confused*
Me - Nevermind, I'll show you.

I removed my Ficcare, bun drop, headshake, bun drop, headshake, bun drop.

At this point, I was standing in front of the mirror and she was standing behind me
to the left so I had a good view of her face. With every headshake and bun drop,
her chin dropped and her eyes wideded. Then 3 sec of silence, then all h*ll
broke loose (it felt like that for me who is not really comfortable being
judge according to appearence):

She moved in to handle my hair and got even more loud:

All of a sudden I had 7 people (all salon employees) standing in a half circle
behind me while the rest of the clients where looking curiously from their seats.

It was so surreal. She kept gushing while trimming it, looked on curiously when
I put it back up in a bun ("You would never know ALL THAT HAIR is hiding in that bun")
but in the end, she was a lit up and really happy.

I guess I made her day (she asked me if she could take a picture from behind and I accepted)
but that is probably the funniest experience I have ever had with a trim.

This story did make me chuckle - I could just see it! ;) I bet she will never forget you - and she will show everyone your photo!

How did you make sure she didn't trim off way too much, though? Weren't you worried about that? I suppose you would say "no shorter than my knees".....

Oh my gosh! What a crazy experience that must have been! Must have been neat to shock them all!

I'm sure you made her day, and all other salon employees! :D Great story, thanks for sharing!

Oh how funny! Sounds like she did a good job with the trim too!

She actually did take too much off but I blame that on myself. I was wearing boyfriend jeans (loose pants) and said that I wanted cut back to knee. I meant "the knee crease" and she got it as "where the knee begins". But the difference is maybe an inch or so. I can live with that.

I was expecting another one of those 'horror at the hairdresser's' stories. I'm glad that wasn't the case. I totally get her amazement, though! Knee-length hair is nothing you see on a daily basis, not even as a hairdresser. :) Or should I say, especially not as a hairdresser? Anyway, thank you for sharing! :)

Wow; wish I could have been there to see that.

July 29th, 2015, 04:31 PM
Aww, that's really sweet! I'd love the sight of my hair to make someone's day like that. It would make mine too! :)

It would make my day to see your hair down in person.

It's so nice to hear a good hair salon experience for once, instead of a horror story! That was really funny too!

July 30th, 2015, 02:48 AM
What a sweet story :) No wonder she was surprised, knee length isnt a common sight!

July 30th, 2015, 02:57 AM
I thought this was going to be a bad experience, but I'm glad it worked out for you.

July 30th, 2015, 03:43 AM

Sweet story :) I bet they didn't get many people with your length of hair in their salon before (or after).

July 30th, 2015, 05:47 AM
Wonderful. :) I'd be impressed too, if I saw your hair down.
