View Full Version : Wedding updo ideas needed

Hello, my sister's wedding is in 5 days, and I'd really appreciate it if you could share/post pictures of updos (no half-ups, no loose chunks of hair) that are as little damaging to hair as possible. She will be hiring someone to do our hair, so I would really love it if it were something that involves as little handling/styling products as possible as I absolutely hate other people doing/touching my hair, specially if they don't care as much as I do about maintaining length and health. She probably won't mind breakage, using gels, spray, etc., so I'm trying to come up with something that doesn't require much of that, but I need to bring a pic.

I was thinking of some braided bun, but I couldn't find anything as simple as what I wanted. If you have tried some style on yourself it would be even better, as sometimes I see updos that look simple but can cause a lot of damage on hair.
Thanks a lot in advance!

I'm sorry I haven't updated but the wedding was yesterday and I hadn't had a lot of time in my hands. In case you're curious I ended up choosing a sort of braided bun. This is the pic I used as a reference:

Here's mine:

Thankfully, no heat had to be used, I specifically asked her before doing it if this would be possible, as the person she was doing before me had her hair sort of curled with a straightener (?.
However, a lot of spray, alcohol, and some wax just to put some short hairs on the frontline in their place was involved. Some hair were ripped, as expected but in the end it went a lot better than expected.
I couldn't see but I believe she brushed my frontline as in backcombing (or something like that) to make it more voluminous (and yes, you can't see it but it was in the front).
As soon as I got home I went into the shower, unbraided it, and started putting litres of conditioner on it to detangle, when it seemed decently untangled, I proceeded to wash it thoroughly , mostly closer to the scalp, but including the ends as I wanted to leave no products in, and finally put some other bunch of conditioner on it. It was soft today and I can't really notice any damage, thankfully. :)

Well, here are a few places with a bunch of ideas for inspiration about what sort of braids/buns you can combine/do:

CuteGirlsHairstyles gallery (http://www.cutegirlshairstyles.com/gallery/), which also have YouTube tutorials on their main channel.

TorrinPaige (https://www.pinterest.com/torrinpaige/styles-i-ve-accomplished/) on Pinterest (She has YouTube tutorials for these, too!)

LillithMoon (https://www.pinterest.com/lilithmoon/hair-and-makeup-videos/) who also has YouTube videos

You may even find you can do these yourself. :)

Hmm this would be alright if only I had pretty hairsticks to use :/
I only have a simple wood hairstick and I'm afraid it would look a tad too simple for my sisters liking.

Hmmm.... I'm personally a big fan of a tucked french braid, and I think it would look fantastic with some little pearl or jewel pins. But that is just me.

:hmm: is it any place near you were you can find hair sticks, pins etc? Or you could do a bun like that put it in place with bobby pins or U pins. And decorate it with some flower accesories

Hmm if I had the time, perhaps (although I haven't come across ones as fancy as what I've seen in etsy/online). The flowers or pins idea is good, though, I might bring some I own to wear.

I was trying to find some bun which starts as a braid, and then is turned into a bun, but somehow I wasn't able to find the exact picture of what I'm describing online. Perhaps it's got some fancy name I ignore?

How about this? I wore it to a wedding in February. It's a silk-bamboo paranda French braided into the hair, made into a braided bun, and decorated with sparkly hair pins.

ETA: It was rock solid all night through lots of wild dancing and partying. My scalp was tender for a couple days afterwards, but it was totally worth it for me.

ETA2: I secured the bun with U pins before decorating it with sparkly pins.

Oh, how beautiful your hair turned out! I was just a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding last month and got my hair professionally done. I was so excited that my hair was finally long enough to put up. Since I have a lot of uneven ends leftover from my pixie days still, I figured I'd probably have to trim soon anyway and just let her have at it. She did a beautiful 20s-inspired, twisted, tucked thing.

...and then I spent 45 minutes after the event taking pins out of my hair.

I love the way your braid turned out!

Haha, do you have any pics?
Thanks for the compliment. Gladly, not that many pins were used for this, and they were all easy to take out, so this wasn't a problem.

I didn't get any of the back, just a front selfie of my makeup and dress and jewelry for my mom, but the stylist asked to take a picture for her portfolio. I was flattered. She didn't ask all the bridesmaids for one.

And you're very welcome :)

Wow that's such a beautiful style.

I remember a friend of mine getting her hair professionally done (can't remember what the occasion was) and she spent a long time taking her pins out as well.. She was so angry lol.

Haha thank you, and well, I can see how some styles I saw while browsing for one could need tons of pins, specially when dealing with hair that's not the ideal for a specific style (having fine hair myself, I imagine a braid closer to the crown for ex. would take a lot more effort and tools to keep it looking decent haha).
Also, another of the bridesmaid had very thick hair, and she chose a sort of bun with hairs sort of coming out from it which I can guess involved a lot of pins, too :p

There's also 'makeup wearables' (I think that's what it's called) where she does cute, do-able hairstyles. Lots of bun ideas, rolled styles and braids/ponies.
