Title says it all. How do I protect my hair from chlorine if I have no swim cap or whatever those things are called? I'm afraid. :P+

Oh don't worry, I swim all the time. I recommend getting a swim cap though. Until then, soak your hair in fresh water and then smoosh a little (A LITTLE) conditioner through it. Put it up in a bun with an acrylic fork or stick, or braid it, and have fun.

This. Then wash it afterward.
Occasional swimming won't kill your hair. Heck, mine survived 3 seasons of high school swim team with me often not even washing the chlorine out until bedtime.

1) Preferably use unchlorinated swimming pools
2) Get a special long-hair swimcap, like this, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czj4DOl6UO4
and/or try a two-cap combination: http://newlynatural.com/blog/2010/03/winning-combination/
3) Coconut oil soak pre-pool to reduce uptake of water with minerals, and soak hair in fresh water and conditioner;
4) After the pool, try to use a swimmers' or chelating shampoo or a chelating pack (e.g. Ion) periodically. And rinsing post-pool hair thoroughly with fresh water for a couple minutes before adding shampoo allows any water soluble chemicals from the pool to be rinsed away.
