I have a cow horn hairstick but when I put it in it makes sort of crunching and ripping sounds. Perfect tip and super smooth, whatever is happening is happening at the point. Anybody else ever have this happen? Is it damage or just noises?

I always gently wiggled my hair stick so this wouldn't happen.. the stick would just sort of "nose" it's way through my hair. But if I just stuck it in without wiggling, it made ugly noises.
Are you just hearing it, or are you also feeling the hairs getting caught?

Since the hairstick is completely smooth and there are no snags, I would suspect you are twisting your hair too tightly into a bun or you are not wiggling in the stick carefully enough. It's important to get the tension right and not to hurry or torque the stick too much.
This snapping of hairs happened to me when I would just shove a stick in and/or bun way too tightly. I'm a lot more careful now, so it doesn't happen.

Ditto on the bun being too tight/toy too large.

I've had this same problem a few times and have definitely had some hairs break. I wrapped my bun a little looser and it helped. However, my hair is very damaged and I still have a few hairs snap from time to time

Also, giving up the stick twist and mastering actual bun is probably a good idea....
