How should I part my hair to more effectively search for split ends and white dots? My hair is less than an inch beneath APL and while I have little problem bringing all of it in front where I can see it, I still have trouble spotting the splits.
My hair would normally end up being separated in three parts (the bulk of hair that hasn't been checked yet, the strand(s) I'm failing to meticulously stare at and the section I went through with decent care and attention). I would pick a section from the left (or right) and finish checking it, then pick the next piece of hair right after. I would repeat this until I reached the middle of my head/back; then I would stop and continue from the other side. This procedure worked fine during winter, when I my hair was far more frustrating and damaged (I also had a few longer layers at that time, which I got rid of), but now that there's less of them, I'm finding it more difficult to concentrate and do everything methodically.
I think one of my problems lies in the fact that I'm not looking at a smaller enough strand to clearly see each split. The layers probably aided me in focusing on hairs that were shorter than the average length, hairs which right now I have to force myself to look for; and there's a good amount of hair in the back that's shorter! I hope it's not damaged! The others in having a slightly lighter colour than before (blame the sun) and the whole thing feeling far more tedious.
Do you think also parting my hair vertically would improve split end visibility? And what should I do make less boring?
