Successful second attempt by the same lady after making a few viewer-suggested modifications to her plopping technique...

:D

So, I think what we have here is the same as with everything: What works for one person might not work for another. One particular application of the technique that works for one might not work for another either!

I'm more similar to the this lady than the one in the OP. I would never plop overnight, or until my hair was totally dry, and I wouldn't comb it before either. I'd definitely wind up with all kinds of weird shapes. But plopping works really well for me if I plop it until it's just damp, then take it down and let it air dry from there.

Of course, plopping may not work for some wavy/curlies at all, regardless of technique. But it's worth trying a couple times, with your own hair in mind, just to see.

I definitely can't plop for an extended period of time, but 10 minutes or so works a treat!

Yes, forgot about the follow-up video! Guess I was trying to make a (not so successful point). Yes YMMV, as with everything. Plopping is a little bit too much now at my length, but it was nice when I still was BSL.

most of the time when I plop it ends up perfect and a lot more curly
1/3 of the time it ends up wonky though.

I haven't done it since APL though since I don't really wear my hair down so I try to reduce clumping now instead of promoting it :p

I wouldn't even call those gals 'curly,' I would call them wavy. When I plop too long, the back of my hair gets stuck in the upright position and just looks really weird. I plop for 10 to 20 minutes. But my hair is curly enough that no matter what I do, it is curly.

My hair is wavy and plopping works for me, I plop overnight, it's still pretty wet in the AM and I let it finish drying down. No combing before either.

It works about 2/3 of the time, the other 1/3 it comes out wonky, then it's just bun time.
