I am thinking of adding a simple metal fork to my collection for summer. My biggest concern is which will stay in the best as my hair tends to be slippery. Which would you recommend?

My hair is grabby beyond belief (seriously, while shopping, I was walking by a display and my hair decided it wanted the blouse, or the hanger, not sure which since it grabbed the hanger and I noticed when the blouse onthehanger smacked into my bum) so I may not be the best one to answer this. Nonetheless, i bought a Quattro (https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1007663898) and I love it. It's lightweight, doesn't pull no matter how I shove it in and doesn't budge. I love my acrylics, but they do tend to slide a bit.

ravenheather, maybe a Rootiebird's? (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Rootiebirds?section_id=12673847&ref=shopsection_leftnav_6)
I don't have one (but I really want one! :p) Some of them have wavy profiles, which I would think should help hold slippery buns.

Kina, something about that particular blouse spoke to your hair and it said "gimmie" :yumm:

Aaaaand I've been enabled. This goes right on my wishlist for next month, haha!
I really want a metal fork, too, but I'm not sure how well they'd work for summer. I mean, it's metal... doesn't it heat up under the sun?

Second the Quattro recommendation. I have the Starlites set but I usually only wear the big one. Having the second one is great for second-day slippery hair and looser buns. I sleep in them too.

I have very slippery hair too, but am able to wear anodized aluminum forks (https://www.etsy.com/listing/219855359/aluminum-two-prong-hair-forks-45-inch?ref=shop_home_active_8). I wish they were about a half inch longer though.

I have a Northwestgoods (https://www.etsy.com/shop/northwestgoods) 5 tine fork, which holds more solidly than any other hair item I have. But it's so big, it looks like I'm wearing a bed railing in my hair. I'd like to get a smaller one with a less tiara-like top.

I've been eyeing the forks from OverTheHawaiianMoon (this one in particular https://www.etsy.com/listing/219504188/green-anodized-aluminum-two-prong-hair?ref=shop_home_active_20)! How is the quality?

This is hilarious!!!

I second, third (?) Quattro forks. They are lightweight and just awesome.

Yes, the Quattro Starlite fork is super-light and does a good job not slipping out while also being easy to insert. The surface is supposed to have "micro-grooves" to help it stay put -- I can't see them, but they seem to work!

So lotsa love for the quattro huh? Those rootiebird's look great too. Has anyone tried tempestmoonstudio? Are they grippy?

Rootiebirds look so pretty. Want.

Another vote for Quattro, sooo comfy.
I even slept in a 2p fork from them a few times by accident, and it stayed in my hair till morning and was comfortable! I should start doing this on purpose

I knew this thread would turn into a Quattro thread.
I have yet to buy one but it's impressive how much people love them.

Yeah, I have a Quattro stick wooden stick that I bought years ago, and never bought anything else until this year. I didn't expect to love the fork as much as I do. Especially since it disappears in my hair and I like my hair bling to, well, bling. The hold is incredible, though.

I'm also a fan of the Quattro. It doesn't slip out, it's lightweight and comfy!

A basic Quattro fork. It's kind of micro-grooved and stays in better.

Quattro Starlites are my favourite too. I wear one everyday at home because it's so comfortable. I try to wear other hairtoys when I'm out (because I have so many) but this little basic fork from Quattro is by far my most used hairtoy.

I like the Quattro for a basic one. They don't come out.

I love metal hair forks for their durability and slender builds; no struggle for insertion and great for slipping into a small purse on the go. After years of collecting hand made hair accesories, I have a selection of metal hair things, from Northwest Goods, Simplistic Designs, Quattro, BronzeSmith, SkyDesigns, Ravenslair, and RedWolfLtd.

After no consideration my kneejerk sentimental response is that my Quattro Helix is my favorite, but my Ravenslair Add-A-Brooch fork is the one I reach for the most. No real explanation for that, I feel the AAB goes in just a tad easier, but it also tries to slide out sometimes. I find that all my metal things slide a bit in my hair, but my helix doesn't budge and it is so cute! Problem is it hides completely in my hair, so only I know of it's cuteness. I just wish it were also somehow designed with head curve, to decrease the incidences of hot-spots on my tender scalp and frequent re-stylings.

Now, ęsthetically I prefer my BronzeSmith CthulhuMoon hair fork that I received last winter, but it falls shy of overall favorite due to some minor tangling issues.

So I guess that's my top three, lol in a jumbled order.

I have a fork from northwestgoods as well - they have a booth at Portland Saturday Market. I've bought two from them several years ago, and neither has broken - although I did give the 3-tine one to my sister. Right now I'm wearing my 7-tine one. The 7-tines are more expensive, but they hold incredibly well. The key is to look for ones that are short (mine is perhaps 4-5" long, if that) with tines very close together and use them with a fatter bun style. My signature bun is a bee-butt, but you take the outermost coil, loosen slightly, then make it the innermost coil, which essentially 'locks' the rest of the bun and provides a wider base for your fork. A cinnamon bun type would probably also work well.

I know Quattro are very popular but these thin tines aren't holding at all for me! They are either too loose or they pull. Too bad because it is VERY pretty in your shiny mane!! :blossom:

Hi Starfire! I'm so sorry I didn't come back here sooner. I have no complaints about the quality of these forks. I have made sure to keep my anodized blue one from touching anything scratchy though, as I fear it might scratch easily. But they are sturdy and hold in my hair well.
