So, my hair's getting pretty long now, it's thick waist length hair looking to get to hip length. I'm really too lazy to conventionally style my hair, use heat, hair spray, lots of freaking bobby pins just make me want to hulk smash. So I've been taking inspiration from the Dark Ages/Middle Ages for styles for long hair and pretty much just starting with braiding and taping with ribbon.
Now I only knew how do do a regular 3 strand braid overhand or underhand and have never done anything else because practising on myself is a nightmare. Recently my mum let me play with her hair so I could try out a few other common braids (Rope, Fishtail, Dutch, French, Conrow) Rope and Fishtail were successful, the rest somewhat resemble what they should look like. Now I do have a sister but we've never been close enough to play with hair, last time she did that she cut my hair all stupid when I was little.
Because my hair is so dark (dyed with indigo/henna/alma berry mix) it's kind of hard to see all the stuff going on so I've taken to trying weaving ribbon/taping in the hair. First attempt was yesterday (sorry no photo) but was just 2 3-strand braids wrapped around the head to make a braid crown then weaving red velvet ribbon around to keep it in place, looked cool.
What I'm looking for is some extra inspiration, if you have photos, or helpful articles or videos (I really like Princess Hairstyles on YT) of your braids, use of ribbon I would find that useful. I'm learning to do it on others (I may get a hairdressing mannequin cause I need a longer-haired model) but once I get that right I'm going to have a whooooole lot of hard times doing on my own hair especially if it's not a side braid.
I would like to see some of your photos of your use of ribbons and methods of braiding your own hair with more complex braids. :)
