Hey all--

I'm desperate to try and keep my hair moisturized so I don't get split ends when I am growing my hair out. I found a few hair masks I had forgotten I bought a while back and they REALLY help. The one I am currently using is the "Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque." I leave it in for several hours, sometimes overnight before rinsing it out. I also spray a leave-in conditioner by Pureology afterward. I have to wash my hair every 2 days because otherwise my hair gets too oily to comb without breaking off hairs.

So the whole point of this post is that I'm wondering which hair masks you guys like. It may be a while, but when I run out of the masks I have, I want to know what other/perhaps better options I may have. I would PREFER a mask for color-treated hair. I am a natural redhead but I put in different red highlights to give it more variety and darken my hair slightly. But if not, one that doesn't damage color-treated hair will do! :o

Because I use hair masks/deep conditioners twice a week, I go for the cheap ones. They work great and don't completely murder my college student budget. I use Aussie 3 Minute Miracle or Suave or Dove deep conditioner, and leave them in for at least two hours, usually more like four or five hours, and also apply coconut oil to keep the moisture in.

I make my own! There is the famous SMT (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128), or my current recipe is:

1 tsp coconut oil
2 tsp honey
2 tsp conditioner
1/2 tsp aloe gel

*Double the recipe if beyond APL*

Microwave the coconut oil 15-30 seconds (until liquid), then mix in the honey & conditioner. Make sure the mixture is now roughly body temp (warm but not hot), then mix in the aloe gel. Apply to hair from the ears down, and if you have some leftover, can smooth over your crown. Bag your head (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-fj0QnsMKkag/UecCalCNtrI/AAAAAAAAB6k/7kGSAYaQZns/s1600/plastic+bag.JPG), then wrap a hot moist towel over the plastic (I wet a handtowel and microwave for one minute the first time, the 30 seconds whenever it gets cold and needs to be reheated). Leave on hair at least 30 minutes, but no more than 2 hours.
