Hello all! I have a hair question and I highly doubt the answer I am looking for will be here (because there's probably no magical solution for this) but I'm curious so I figured I would ask anyways! The majority of my hair has been dyed using henna and indigo. The top few inches were dyed with a demi. Now I am looking for something lighter.. Is it possible at all for this to be achieved without turning hair green? I would really love to have red hair again, but I just don't think there is anything I can do aside from cutting it, which really isn't even up to consideration. :(

My hair currently looks like this:

Pesky layers! Anyways, the color I am wanting the most is this one:

All help will be appreciated, thank you! :)

In most cases indigo is absolutely permanent after multiple applications. Do not attempt to bleach it out unless you want moss green hair.
But for all its worth, you could try a color remover i guess, i doubt it will do much at all tho. If you can lift it to dark brown then a burgundy red would be possible. In any case, you are in for a serious job.

If you're patient, the indigo might fade that much, but it'd take a long time if it happened at all.

Offhand, I don't know how indigo reacts to color removers. It might be worth strand-testing something like Color Oops, see if that pulls out any indigo. Vitamin C and shampoo might pull some out, too. Just don't bleach it!

My indigo and henna got lighter. This is before:

and this is now

Not HUGE difference, but def lighter. I did henna with indigo twice, after that only henna and now henna with hibiscus. I think indigo fades with time, but also I did about 2 conditioner treatments (maybe 1?), when I left cheap CO for like 3 hours and honey treatments and also lemon treatment, several of those and left it for about 3 hours as well. I noticed slight change in color. HTH

Oiling seems to take my indigo out quite a bit. Also clarifying. You have such beautiful hair, I would keep the chemical treatments away.

I second this. For me indigo never stayed in my hair but just washed out with every shampoo. I think it's very doable to get back to your red hair. Have you considered adding hibiscus to your next henna treatment? It will help change your colour to more of a cherry cola/ burgundy colour like the second pic you showed. My hair colour looks burgundy in my pics but it's actually cherry cola red.

You can get hibiscus powder online at henna sooq or purchase some dehydrated hibiscus flowers at the health or bulk food stores. Then you just put it in a coffee grinder to make powder. You might get the odd seed that doesn't grind but it's no biggie.
