Help me come up with Prom hairstyle ideas?

My prom is in about a month, and I realized that I have NO IDEA what I should do with my hair. I know that I want to show off my length, but I don't want my style to be really damaging.
So now I'm left clueless, and I'd like the opportunity to get necessary materials and practice on myself to make sure it works before the night of prom.
Any hints, tips, ideas, help? Thanks much you guys are the best

I think a waterfall braid would look beautiful in your hair with your waves if you know how to do it. I have been practicing the technique but I have yet to get it right.

What is a waterfall braid?
Half up would probably be best, and I have no opinion on braids or no braids, but I don't think I was "sleek" or "messy".
And yeah hair maintenance for my dance would be no fun.

Here's why I term messy: basically, intentional disarray, often accompanied by words like sexy, beachy, or tousled:

Sleek is basically smooth. It tames from edgy model-y looks to just smoothed down. Google sleek updos.

I'm just picky, so I try to narrow down what feel I'm going for. I would use hairspray even if you don't normally, and secure it firmly.

Half-ups are a great way to do something fancy & out of your ordinary, while still showing off length.

Now both of those were heavily curled, but with your natural waves, you wouldn't need to heat-style, I don't think.

My go-to style is a half-up of lace rope braids. Check out YouTube to see how to do that. Looks fancy, not complicated, and in a half-up, will show off your length. You can bun the rope braid tails, or leave them down.

Here's a lace rope braid in action. I'm in the Puny Bun Club, with hair that likes to compact down into nothing, so this looks a little wimpy on me, but on most non-PBCers, this style gives the look of a lot of pretty volume.

Honestly for my prom I wore my hair down hahaha does that make me boring? maybe :hmm: but I am from California where the laid back look was very acceptable for a prom. Good luck finding a hair style that works for you! :)

My mom put mine up in a banana clip and curled it, then pinned the curls. It was about tbl at the time.

I wore most of my hair down with a waterfall twist on both sides to one of my proms, and to the other I wore it again mostly down (with braid waves) with a small lace braid on the side with a bit of ribbon woven in it that matched my dress. I'd recommend either of these because they let you wear most of your hair down and they won't be damaging if you either stick with your natural waves or do braid waves. Also they're pretty easy if you know how to braid

I wore a half-up embellished rose bun (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=61840) to a cousin's wedding and really liked the way it turned out. It's a simple style that looks super intricate, and doing it as a half-up lets you show off your length, too.

My hair was french braided into a slicked back boyish look (because I wanted to be the best lookin Dude in our bunch and totally was. I was a better looking best man though. Looong story) for the prom I went to because I went in a dress suit and my prom I didn't show up for I wore a baseball cap and a pony tail to the rockies game instead.

My hair wasn't long for dances so it was almost always in a pull it away from my face something or another twist or braid set.
