I've noticed that people use all sorts for hair ties and hair sticks. I've seen straw hair sets and today I came across a bubble wrap set.

The only unconventional thing I've used is plastic bags or plastic wrap in place of plastic caps. This is more readily available to be and I get to reuse stuff instead of throwing it away. I also get to mould them to my head and hair shape. Do you use any unconventional stuff?

Sometimes i use teaspoons for my bedbuns, depending on what fork i forgot to pull out my hair. a spoon is just the most readily available thing to shove in a centerheld. But i do have certain house toys too, that are either very sturdy or i do not mind possibly breaking them.
On case i need elestics i male them out of 100den leggings, but i think thats pretty common around here.

I make my own satiny scrunchies myself.

Oh, what an ingenious idea! I'd never heard of using bubble wrap for rollers before ;)

After checking this one out I noticed there are actually several bubble wrap roller videos on youtube, like this one (here they're used for very long hair): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8ZGFB3PhMM (This girl actually has many nice haircare & styling videos.)

Cling foil for packs, pencils, chopsticks and even a smooth regular sticks when out camping, and a spoon when in kitchen and in need of a quick pull up.
Stockings for elastics.

Edible stuff: eggs, EVOO, coconut oil, vinegar, lemon juice, teas.....you name it.

You know you have been on LHC a long time when nothing sounds too weird at first read.

I mean, Monostat?

Those turned out gorgeous curls and they look really cumfy to sleep in, not like flexi rods or rollers.

I've found one using paper bags. It reminds me of those old fashioned paper/rag sets you'd see in old movies.

^ Thanks for the links! Those straw ones look a bit uncomfortable to me though, all those straws and bobby pins sticking out - probably not good to sleep in, I'd say ;) And with the paper towel ones, I'd worry the paper disintegrates all over my hair, overnight at least...

A related one with bandanna curls, good to sleep in, too: :)

Though I must say that putting my hair up with a scrunchie for the night (like I sometimes do) gives me nice curls too, and with much less work ;)

I like the bandana ones, Thanks.

I've already got lots of tight curls but it's great to change it up a bit by varying different type of curls. I've occassionally tried twist outs and bantu knots. I haven't quite got the hang of any of sort of roller or rod set as yet. I have tried threading hair with yarn that gave some nice ordered curls. It can also be used to stretch curls out.

Socks make nice rollers. Just fold the foot of the sock over then ends of your hair heel to toe and roll up, then fold down the tops to secure. I have a set if childrens socks that I got from the dollar store just to roll hair on.

That's genius! I'll have to try it!
