View Full Version : Pondering hair growth

Ok I'm a finey, always believed my hair wouldn't grow. Now I am just about hip length. My nape hairs though are so fine you can hardly see them and they feel like gossamer. Last summer they were all the same length, collarbone length, when I put my hair up (which is daily) they looked as if they had been cut in a straight line (they hadn't they have just grown that way). It was very strange. Now these hairs are about APL length, all of them as if I had an extra layer cut underneath. But they are still growing in spite of the fineness. I was pondering the thought that they must be part of my growing down taper if this makes sense. The canopy hairs are slightly thicker and reach hip. They are also still growing and I have trimmed these.
My ponderings lead me to think that my canopy hairs will grow longer than hip, at least to tailbone and maybe further. The baby hairs, I'm not so sure.
Any thoughts anyone?

Wow, I have never thought about this. My nape hairs aren't as good as yours. They taper a lot and only one or two of a strand reaches apl. So I'm quite impressed with your straight line nape hair. I don't expect my nape hair or my side burns hair to ever grow as long as my other scalp hair. I never cut my side burns in my life and they never seem to get as long as the rest. Though I must admit I never paid much attention to the exact length they reach.
So maybe the growth cycle on these hairs is just not as long as for the rest of the hairs?

My nape hairs are a mess. I think they take a beating from me tossing and turning with my hair in a high pony or braid at night. Some of them are quite long, though. A lot of them get splits.

My nape hairs aren't split yet,I'm not sure how long they will grow before any splits occur. I will continue to baby them and try to protect them as best I can. Guess they do have a different growth pattern to my canopy hair. Canopy hair seems stronger and I'm hoping this will grow to my target lengths and then maintain whilst the rest grows down
