Interesting stuff, Nadine! Thanks so much for sharing! :applause

I found it interesting that apparently manufacturers change formulas of their shampoos for sale in different countries to accommodate for differences in water quality (mineral deposits). I didn't know that they account for that so much, but it certainly makes sense. ;)

Oh yes, they've been around for a while - mostly marketed for hospital use. Examples here (http://www.amazon.com/No-Rinse-Shampoo-floz-473-1/dp/B00008KA7P), here (http://www.cvs.com/shop/personal-care/hair-care/shampoos/cvs-foaming-rinseless-shampoo-body-wash-skuid-879471)or here (https://well.ca/products/no-rinse-shampoo_22743.html?gclid=CKSQyvyuwsQCFQyqaQodM0cAh g).

I think that no-rinse shampoo is exactly what they use in space. Here's a fun video of washing hair in space with that :) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOIj7AgonHM

I have a small container of the no-rinse shampoo for camping. It's pretty nice to use around day 4-5 of no showering.

Yes, I found that interesting too, it does make sense, but I didn't realize that was why different places had different formulas!

Does it work well? I wonder if that's something someone with SD could use without causing irritation..:hmm:

It works fine. Not quite like a real shampoo with water, but does the job. Not sure about how it would impact those with scalp issues. Mine is pretty tough and not much bothers it anymore.

I got totally distracted by the ad at 0:38 for coconut oil shampoo, and ended up tracking it down on the google. I've been doing coconut oil + shampoo since my son was born and shower time became a scarce, precious commodity. So far it's been really awesome, literally all I do is shampoo and go, no conditioner, no acidic rinse or anything, and my hair is super happy and silky... I swear Watkin's Mulsified Cocoanut Oil Shampoo isn't paying me to endorse!

That was interesting. It got me thinking about how women with ultra long hair back in the days before shampoo cleaned their hair/scalps. Long hair was fashionable back then....(think Sutherland sisters). I wonder if the advent of shampoo correlates in any way with the changing of hair fashion ---> shorter length, or if shampoo caused damage that resulted in breakage and shorter hairstyles as a result.

Izzy, my social movements of the 20th c minor leads me to suggest that bobbing was tied to the first Youth Culture in America, and had strong feminist influence (womens sufferage)

I don't want to imagine my hair in space though, I suspect it would get everywhre... :) Floating sheds would probably turn into aliens that capture my crew.

Interesting question. I don't think it's the shampoo causing damage. If you choose/wash wisely, a shampoo is better than soap to use on your hair. So I think it's rather the increased frequency of washing--as one factor--that came with changing norms/culture. I can imagine that shorter hair required more washing due to styling products, thus more damage.
