Why can't I do a darn lazy wrap bun? I bought a small Ficcare Maxima, I watched the tutorials, I read the Wiki How... I tried about a thousand times. Not sure where I'm going wrong. I'm getting kind of a loop that sticks out in the middle of the wrapped bun part. And my clip is under everything and can't be seen. It sounds like a simple fix, and I swear I'm pretty competent... but I'm just not getting it. shudder:

I think I'll be passing on all of the more complex ones you girls do since I can't seem to master one with the word "lazy" in it.

:grouphug: I know that frustration! I can't get it to work either: the hair length falls apart on my wrist/hand.
But, if your hair is long enough, you might be able to do a braided LWB or a twisted LWB (A.K.A. the Gibraltar bun). Alternatively, it's possible that your hair is simply too thick and/or not long enough to be able to bun it this way. More motivation to keep growing! ;)

I swore this bun off for a while. It still looks weird on me. I can make a Cinnabun or a nautilus look much better.

I hope you get it figured out.

By the way, does anybody know why it's even called "lazy"? Is there actually a "hard-working" version of this? :shudder:

I'm going to look up the ones that you mentioned. See if I have any luck with those.

I can maybe help with a link or two. How thick is your hair?

You might also try the scarf/paranda trick (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=123617&highlight=trick)? That helps make it extra grippy (and colorful!)

PS - Don't feel bad. I'm still like... a foot of length away from being able to dream of making a LWB. Best of luck!

Fine texture, maybe slightly less than average thickness.

The thumb trick. WD..do you remember the thread that shows it? That was the key to getting a stable lwb for me.

I did the lazy wrap bun until my hair was long enough for the nautilus. ...I haven't done the LWB for ages. The nautilus is just too ...convenient. YMMV. Good luck! And I'm also a total Torrin fan. Love her stuff.

So this video shows the thumb sweep I'm talking about. I know this person has incredibly long hair and it's way different than ours but the technique works. Hope this helps:)

^ That video is very good. I'm also a big fan of nautilus. To me nautilus and LWB look quite similar but nautilus feels more secure. LWB looks good on me only if I wear a stick and I'm more of a 'fork girl'.

I really just want to have my hair actually look like hers. Thats never going to happen without a full head transplant. Ah, guess I will just go ahead and continue being happy with what I have...Her bun is as big as my head.

I started having the exact same problem with the lazy wrap when my hair was between waist and hip - getting that loop thingy sticking out in the middle of the bun, and I have no idea why. The only way for me to make it look like it used to now is to insert the stick or fork after the very first wrap, and then continue wrapping the length and tucking the ends in last, but that makes for a much less secure bun that likes to fall down, especially since my hair is very slippery and the ends refuse to stay tucked.

slynr, that video illustrates the difference perfectly! I can't quite figure out what it is she does to achieve the smooth look instead, but I'll definitely study it some more. :D

This is basically the technique I use on my much thinner hair. When I was shorter, I wrapped just over index and thumb instead of multiple fingers too. You might also try with a stick or fork instead of a ficcare. I know everyone loves them, but I find it very difficult to manage getting one part in the bun and one part over on a lazy wrap. A stick just has the inside part to worry about.

Hello Amanda.

Sorry to say that but don't you think that your Ficcare is too small ?? You are in the ii range, and with hip length hair, a small Ficcare sounds very difficult to make its way through all that hair... In order it not to disappear under the hair and be able to fully clap around it, it must be long enough. If the Ficcare is too small, it's very difficult to control it when you poke it into the bun and push it to go through the whole mass of hair.

For me, the problem was that the Ficcare is curved and therefore difficult to control when you poke it into the bun. So I exercised first my lazy buns with a stick, and once I fully mastered the stick movement and hair tightness to firmly catch all the hair, I tried with a Ficcare... and it worked ! :)

I haven't seriously tried to make the lazy wrap bun work, but my impression is that it is poorly-named. It is actually quite difficult to get it to stay. I am having much better luck with the cinnabun.

Oh I missed that the ficcare is a small. Center held bun needed. Maybe a cinnabun holding center loop and.out loop pinned outside ficcare?

I don't have any advice for the OP, but I do have a LOT of commiseration, because I can't get one to stay either. Might be that at my thickness, I don't have enough length. I may try again around BSL, but right now, trying just irritates the life out of me.

Could you please dumb it down for me, pretty please? Which one is the "thumb trick"? Does the "thumb trick" mean just wrapping over the thumb once? Or should it be twice? Or is it something else completely? (I always assumed LWB requires the use of thumb just to make a good loop-knob.)

Oh, and I'm a huge fan of HaarTraumFrisuren/Vanessa: she has a great way of explaining her technique and a great hair inspiration, too! :D
Her braided LWB is how I get mine to stay rock-solid (with a stick): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DKLqSQWZos and twisted LWB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsQlSwyEeQg For all those people who have hair long enough for LWB, but can't get it to stay, I'd recommend trying to twist/braid hair first for control. Doing it with a stick/fork would probably be easiest.

By the way, I'm really surprised that so many folks who can't yet do LWB can do the nautilus bun - I find the latter way harder to achieve. Which videos helped you? :)

Meteor...I hope as I describe this it will make sense but when I first was doing a lwb I kept my thumb at the bottom but as the video shows when I sweep my thumb to the top it makes it more stable. I didn't think it would make a difference but it really did for me.

^ Great, I think I got it. Thank you so much, slynr! :flowers: Yes, without the thumb sticking out, I wouldn't be able to do a LWB even braided or as a half-up. The thumb is pretty necessary for the loop to hold right.
However, the thumb is also a problem for thick, voluminous hair because you need to be able to fit all the hair over that tiny "thumb space" - and that's where the twisting/braiding can help. ;)

Long hair for 9 years and I still can't do an infinity bun.

AspenSong makes fun of my lazy wrap and nautilus because "it doesn't look normal"

And i still don't fully comprehend a disk bun.

Another one who cant get any hairtoy (except u pins and my handy big black srunchie) to stay on my hair.

Seems to be a fairly common problem among us straight silky heads.

Dont feel frustrated, it took me ages to fully get any bun to stay on my hair withou braiding first and losing tons of accesories.

ok WITH DISCLAIMER, this one.
i only twist once and have a much less bulky center nub. I end up with extra ends loose that don't get twisted in. They just get wrapped around underneath the loop afterward.

This is weird, I can only seem to do braided buns, and have never tried a lazy wrap bun before... just tried it and it actually worked! I never thought I'd be able to do a bun with just a stick. Weird how different people can get different things to work, I can somehow do this, but not a nautilus or cinnabun.

When my hair was shorter, I did mainly LWB without thumb (shorter hair mod). Then I got a version of the nautilus to work, and as my hair grew, my way of doing the LWB quit working for me. I tried it again recently, and it hardly holds. My hair is way thinner than that lady in the video, and it's pretty pitiful if I copy her way exactly, stick falls right out, there's not enough hair there (thickness). My hair doesn't plump up as I'm wrapping the way hers does.

I originally purchased the medium size and I had to go back and exchange it for the small b/c it wouldn't hold my hair. It just kept slipping out. My hair isn't thick and it isn't thin, but it's fine and soft.
