Hi all!
I'm a little "worried" about how my hemline looks :(
My mane thickness is about 2.95'' and i had a consistent shed about 10 years ago (telogen effluvium) treated by a dermatologist.
Some hair grew up again but I have low to medium density hair at my scalp (it's genetics ).
This is a picture about the situation of my hemline:

http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah296/jackie_brown7/capelli%20febbraio%202015/dietro_zpsieoyxxoq.jpg

I've a layered haicut to enhance the curl pattern and to suit better my face shape (i've a long face but not slim, so i need volume near the cheekbone to balance the proportions but at the same time i need length from my neck down to make my face slimmer).
The problem is that as soon as my hair passes SL, the length start seeming thinner :(
I have no damage at all (no split-ends, no tapered ends, no breakage) and I get a 0.5-1 inch trim every 3 or 4 months.
I never heat style, i dry my hair with warm diffuser or air dry between late spring and early autumn.
I use flaxseed gel (with hydrolized keratin in it) as styling gel and sometimes i do oil/smt pre-wash treatments.
I do henna every 2-3 months too.
Even my hairdresser says that my hair is not damaged and the tapered look depends on my low-medium density :(
I need to find a compromise between my wish of a thicker hemline and the presence of layers that suit better my face and my curls.
I was wondering about a U-shaped hemline :hmm: to achieve layered lengths only on the sides and let the density untouched into the mane (I'm sorry if i'm su**ing at explaining this idea but i don't know the hair lingo :().
Any advise?
Thank you sooo much :blossom:

I understand what you are saying (pretty curls by the way), my hair looks similar when it's heavily layered throughout.

What I'm doing is similar to what you have suggested, is to trim out the layers at the back and sides and just leave face framing layers that start at about chin length. I still have a few layers throughout the main body of my hair but they are catching up as I trim and my hair looks much better overall. I self trim using Feye's method for a straight hemline but a u does look good on curly hair.

Hi Hotrox, we have very similar curls!
So do you use Feye's method for a U-hemline or do you cut straight across and then get framing face layers with a different tecnique?
Probably i have to go trim-free for further 3/4 months (my last trim was in December) and then i could have a talk with my haridresser and explain him the problem.
I'm very afraid of cutting my hair myself :(

Ok, I found some pictures for you as your hair really reminds me of my own!! Sorry they are notvvery good quality pictures.

This is when I first started growing, you can see it is quite heavily layered and the ends are like lots of rats tails! I got it to around armpit length but was never happy with how it looked.

So I trimmed back and started to grow out the layers. Before:

This is after trimming out some of the layers and letting the shorter ones catch to the hemline. It's still a work on progress but I'm happier with it now. It has slowed down my length gain but for me it is worth it.

I use the straight across method and then trim the face layers myself. On dry styled hair I get an individual curl and cut it to the length I want, it's actually really easy and you can start very conservativly. It's always been more successful than relying on a hair dresser but if you have a good one then you don't need to do it yourself. It also gets easier as your hair gets longer.

Your hair is much thicker now!:agree:
I'll go towards blunt hemline plus face framing layers, I think i'll have to take care carefully of the layered locks since they won't get a trim for many months :(

If you're afraid to cut yourself and it's difficult with your curls, I'd go to the salon. Let your layers grow out a little bit, and see what that does?
