Hi everyone!

Has anyone of you tried the Oil cleansing method for the face? I stated it recently, with 15% castor oil and 85% extra virgin olive oil. I was wondering, can I/ should I use the mixture on my hair also? because I noticed that my eyelashes have really grown out after using it on my face.

Also, since I have oily skin with lots of breakouts, I was concerned whether this will exacerbate the situation on my face. I'm sorry if this is not the right place to discuss about this :(...but I would really love your advice on this issue. I've notices that my acne has increased after using OCM, but I felt its just the gunk coming out, so have not stopped it yet. I do an OCM alternate days at night.

I have oily skin, and OCM has worked quite well for me, but everyone is different.

In regards to castor oil on your hair - I use a mix of castor oil, extra virgin olive oil, and jojoba oil as "carrier oils" for various hair-friendly essential oils (EOs). I massage this oil blend into my scalp and leave it on for a few hours before I wash my hair.

Castor oil is quite thick, so I would not recommend it as a "leave-in" oil, except on your very ends, and even then, only if your ends are very dry. A mix might be okay, but I still find it very heavy. I prefer using coconut oil as a leave-in oil.

I don't prefer heavy(Castor) oil for your skin as it is already oily. Instead of that oil try using a lighter one or stop OCM for sometime and use CTM which is meant for oily skin. If you see the difference than maybe OCM is not meant for you.

OCM was horrible horrible for my face (worst acne I have ever had in my life!) but lots of people swear by it.

I have used CO/EVOO mix in my hair/scalp. I massage it in my scalp, leave for about an hour or maybe two, wash out. it somehow works well in reducing shedding, dunno why or how, but it does. CO is very thick though so I use about 1/4 of CO and 3/4 EVOO or so. I don't use it on the lengths of my hair, because my hair detests all oils even before washing.

vampodrama, Thanks for the tip about your oil mixture that reduces shedding! I will try that before my next wash. I shed something awful, or at least it seems so to me, and I would love to reduce my hair loss!

I have used an ethnic castor oil product on my hair before, and I do find it too heavy. So, I think I'll use it for my elbows and heels! (o:

If you have acne prone skin and some oil makes you break out, I wouldn't put that in my hair (or face or body): oil seems to travel up the hairshaft to your scalp and it gets to your skin on neck, back and shoulders etc.

In general castor oil is said to be non-comedogenic (not clocking pores) but these things are highly individual. You may have better success with some other oil or oil combo.

That being said, as a person who has acne prone, oily skin, I would even dare to try OCM myself. Olive oil seems not make me breakout so I have used that on my hair successfully.

If it's just the lashes, you might want to go back to your old routine and just put a tiniest bit of castor oil on your lashes say every night.

I read that the reason for using castor oil in the OCM is that it somehow helps draw impurities out of the skin, helps "unplug" any clogged pores? I think it is important to "steam" your face a couple of times with the warm, wet towels at the end. My skin felt and looked great after I tried it. Now, I'll have to try it on my scalp!~

I love using castor oil on my hair - I smooth just a TINY bit over my hair after DC's, and it leaves my hair soft and supple all week long.....

I am glad to see this thread. I have been wondering this myself. I started putting the castor oil on my lashes a little while ago and not they seem darker and fuller. I was wondering if it would do this to my hair also. I am going to have to try it now.

I haven't tried ocm yet because I've been using up cold cream. I've always had very oily skin and using the cold cream every night has made a radical difference. I'm working on the theory that by using an oil-based cleanser I have reduced my skin's need to over-produce oil in reaction to the stripping of oil I had done in the past.

My scalp is also much less oily since switching to the high oil CV shampoo bars. I think the same theory applies.

I'm confused, are we talking about OCM for the face or Castor Oil for hair? Either way, here are some more fun threads... :)

Once visiting my salon in india, there was a lady asking some remedy to grow hair eyebrows thick so they advised her putting castor oil to regrow her eyebrows, same goes for the eyelashes and ofcourse should be for hairs too!!!

Oh wow, thanks for all the feedback, and wintersun99, thanks for the great links. I think I will try rubbing in coconut oil for 2 minutes before using OCM on the skin. On hair, I will try the same mix as I use for OCM (1:4 castor to EVOO) and tell you how it turns out. :)

Castor Oil in hair. YEAH :cheese:

I started putting castor oil on my lashes a couple of weeks ago when I saw it on a post and see the difference so after reading the posts here I started putting it on my head in a mixture of EVOO. I have been having some of what I think is pretty intense shedding for me the past couple of months. After only a couple of nights of castor oil when I shampoed yesterday I got NO SHED! I mean like none. I ran my hand down my hair to pull out the handfull of hair I have usually been getting and there was nothing! I am a total castor oil convert now.

Thank you for posting this thread. Its worth another..:cheese:

I mix castor with coconut and neem. EVOO doesn't work for me. Any oil that's thinner/lighter than castor and your hair likes, would work.

I dont think it should matter. I am just mixing it to cut it a little to make it easier to apply.

So you apply it to your whole hair or just the scalp? How long do you leave the oil mix on before you wash your hair?

vampodrama
October 8th, 2008, 01:34 AM
I apply it to my scalp only (as my hair generally detests oils).

an hour or so - can't stand it for longer! but I'm sure it would be fine to leave it in for longer as well.

do you get any benefit from applying oil to your scalp?

Normally I can't oil much at all. My hair gets weighed down and I have to wash it multiple times. Since my crown hair is finer, if I oil on the scalp it gets really greasy and is even harder to get out.

If castor oil (in a blend) helps hair grow, but oil on fine hair weighs it down or oil makes your scalp greasy, how do you balance this out?

Do you mean any oil or just castor oil?
In terms of any oil then it varies but yes it can be very beneficial on the scalp....i apply it to provide nourishment to the skin and roots of the hairs especially ones like avocado. I also use it to soften and dissolve my sebum which is very dry and hard to remove otherwise.
It can also be used to allow herb extracts and essential oils to penetrate the scalp and effect the roots of the hairs.

I have fine hair and usually do a heavy scalp oiling the evening before i wash my hair and sleep on it overnight so it doesn't really matter that it looks bad.....but i also often go out with oily hair from scalp to tip just in an updo....it looks like it's on purpose as a styling aid so i don't mind....but i wouldn't try that with castor oil.

This thread reminded me to do thids again so i mixed castor and almond oil with some rosemary essential oil...but OMG did i shed applying it! I was overdue a wash though and have neglected my scalp oilings a bit so i guess it's to be expected. If it happens next time i might give up on it though as i can't afford to loose lots of hair in the process.

Plainjanegirl i apply it to the whole length....when it's been washed off it does leave my hair incredibly smooth and feels protected still.
