yes!
When i arrive to tailbone my tips becomes thinner and thinner and :magic: they desappears!

Is the third time from 29 september 2010 (the day that i decide to let my hair grow) that I reach this point and everytime happends the same thing! I changed my routine a lot of time and yes, i can see some progress but i had to cut 10 cm and start again from waist for 2 times!

They become thinner and thinner but WITHOUT SPLITS!!! They are healthy!!!!

But now i'm here, i'm not going to cut till waist but just 3 cm (i think i'll follow the microtrimming club), and i want to understand how to reach classic lenght and (maybe) go on and on :inlove:

here you can find some photos

I wrote my routine in my profile here http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/member.php?u=50268
I add that now because of my tips, i put henna on all my hair to make them thicker! on Last 2 saturday i put henna just on my lenght... to add thickness.

I think i told you everything about my hair!
Could you help me please?

Thank you to every one who will find a while for me!:blossom:

And sorry for my english

First of all, your hair looks fine. You really don't need to trim. Just keep growing to TBL, and when you reach TBL you can start microtrimming. I'd go for TBL first, then microtrim. :flower:

I would do this. Keep your hair up, protected, and moisturized and microtrim to thicken up your hemline once you reach tailbone. It's pretty normal for hair to get thinner as it grows longer, so there's not a whole lot more you can do.

The trick to keeping ends on the thicker side is small trims on a regular basis. This holds back the fastest growing hairs so that the slower growing hairs have a chance to catch up. You can either start trimming now or when you reach your goal.

It IS possible that most of your hairs will not grow as long as classic length. Each hair on your head has its own time table and growth rate. A hair that grows 1/3 inch per month for 36 months will never get longer than about 12 inches, but a hair that grows 1 inch per month for 60 months obviously will get even longer than classic length. It is impossible to know what your hairs will do in advance. Take really good care of your hair so that you're not breaking it off, trim a little bit from time to time to keep the ends a bit thicker if that is important to you, and keep growing. In time, you will see how long your hairs can grow, but don't give up. Things change. A member here was stuck at classic length for years, then his hairs started getting longer without him changing anything. My hair changed texture between the ages of 55 and 61. It used to be wavy enough to be nearly curly, now it's nearly straight. You can never be sure what you're going to get when it comes to hair.

I don't know if you know this, but every hair has a cycle. It grows (anagen), it stops growing and the root shrinks (catagen), then it sheds out (telogen). A new hair starts growing in the same follicle. Repeat. Each hair has its own cycle, so you have all three cycles going on at the same time. Generally, the greatest percentage of your hairs are in anagen at any one time, but each hair goes through all three cycles eventually.

I think your hair is very pretty! :flowers:

I agree that perhaps small microtrimming could help? Probably also patience and a good diet. :blossom:

Cristina, your hair is very pretty! I'm sorry you are frustrated with it. I think most of us have felt like this at times.

Have you tried keeping your hair in a bun/protective style daily? It seem like many members have had success with this. You didn't write how often you wear it down, but if you do it often it might be damaging your ends and giving you a shorter terminal length than you would like.

I think a cut doesn't "improve" what you're worried about. You just end up losing length - that's all. So I'd keep growing and see where that gets you. The thickness will catch up - even if you don't trim.

I don't agree with Lapushka, this time.
I try to explain myself: I think we're all here with the purpose of growing loooooong hair, so getting length is a big part of it, but if you don't trim constantly you'll gonna get fairytales because every strand grows at a different rate and everyday you shed some old hair and grow some baby ones.
I personally don't like fairytales on me anymore. Having thick and wavy strands, when I get fairys my hair resemble tentacles to me, and I don't like the look of it.
When last year I decided to microtrim to get a blunt hem, many people IRL and here told me to keep growing, but I wanted it blunt and, despite the long stall length-wise speaking, I'm really happy with my decision.
Yeah, sometimes I think about how long it would be if I had just ignored the ends, but at the end of the day I think I made the right decision because I like my hair much better now.
It's really all about your personal idea of beauty, and if you are - like I was - looking everyday in the mirror to check your ends and get so discomforted by their look, I would say trim it.
Don't get a big chop all in once, but take 1-2 cm max the first time, then do a 5mm microtrim every month. You should be able to gain length AND thickness.

IMO, protective updos and microtrimming are probably the best.

If you repeatedly find you cannot grow past TBL, it's most likely you are wearing the hair away at the bottom. Just after TBL, the amount of wear increases a lot because hairs start to really get trapped between you and the chair when you sit. I had exactly the same problem - I could not grow past TBL, even after trying for years. I then decided to wear my hair up every day. My hair started growing again (really: stopped getting worn away at the bottom). It's now an inch or so past knee and still growing. Protective updos are great!

anyway, i'll follow your advice!
I allready do in this way and i can see a lot of progress! but i didn't wear my hair up during the night and sometimes i just use a ponytail.
I changed way to up do my hair! For example sticks i discovered were dangerous for my hair! and braids too.
Actually i make buns like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-v18EEZXmotE/U5s-z2lZGzI/AAAAAAAAAjs/TGFemidAg-k/s1600/Orchid+bun+clippies2+big.jpg (i mean with that accessories not with this mass).

IMO = in my opinion

I've watched several people around here keep growing without trimming, and I have not seen one single person who ended up with thicker ends. Most end up with what looks like 2-20 hairs that are a foot longer than the next-longest hairs. There's nothing wrong with that when the goal is to see how long the hair will get. My goal includes a definite shape to my ends.
Your cutting plan looks reasonable. I hope you begin to enjoy your hair more.

I don't think sticks are dangerous to the hair if used correctly, although some hairtypes like to spit them out (e.g. straight, fine and/or slippery hair). Like you, I don't get much protection from braids (at least when worn unbunned) - the tassel is unprotected, the nape region rubs on my collars and can matt, plus they always turn into fuzzy messes, which makes me think they're not protecting the length that well either.

Personally, I like a low, braided cinnabun with spinpins. However, most any LHC-style bun would work. When I say "protective updo", I basically mean not any fashion updo that involves hairbands, backcombing, hairspray, etc. Virtually all LHC buns are protective. However, which ones are most secure on your hair will depend on your individual combination of length, thickness, slipperiness, etc. It also will depend on the tools (hair sticks (one or two? X or = orientation?), hair forks (with or without a headcurve? and how many tines?), spinpins, Amish pins, mini claw clips, Flexi-8s, ficcares, etc.

hope to find a right way to obtain an U shape

To get a U shape using the Feye's method (http://feyeselftrim.livejournal.com/1827.html) I usually do this (only step 3 in Feye's livejournal):
- part my hair in the middle
- comb it behind my back
- make a low ponytail and comb it again
- turn my head downwards, as I'm looking at my feet and pull the elastic band to the point where I want to cut
- check with a double mirror that the elastic band is placed right in the center of my hem then cut straight across.

I think the problem of braid is the elastic. I saw a track of it on my lenght! and yes for the other reasons you write.

I don't know how hair friendly this is, but here's a video tutorial to how to make a braid that doesn't need an elastic (haven't tried it myself):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3KCFRADoX8

On my hair a fake fishtail braid is the only braid I have tried that holds up without tyeing, in other words I don't need elastics when I do this. However, while I don't think it's damaging per se, it does tend to make at least my hair a bit tangly.

There are lots of LHC-style buns. I merely meant ones popular here. Stuff like: cinnabuns, vortex buns, lazy wrap buns, orchid buns, nautilus buns, gibraltar buns. Also, other protective updos like: french tucks, french twists, peacock twists, log rolls, crown braids, heidi braids, maiden braids, coronet braids, hairtaping. The list goes on! If you search on youtube for those bun/updo names, you'll probably get loads of tutorials. Some popular youtube people are Torrinpaige (https://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige), Hypnotica (https://www.youtube.com/user/4ypn0tica), Loepsie (https://www.youtube.com/user/Loepsie), JJLongHair (https://www.youtube.com/user/JJJLongHair4u2c), LauraLongLocks (https://www.youtube.com/user/BestBirth/feed), CinnamonHair (https://www.youtube.com/user/CinnamonHair), etc.

I had the same issue with the elastic's mark on my ends, I think you could find useful to get a Paranda (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=91490)!
It's very protective, and gives some beautiful braid waves till the very ends of your hair.
You can make your own following this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORTatPrRWGk) video tutorial.

It looks good with the trim!

Here's my experience. Obviously, your hair might be different.

I tried to maintain my hair at tailbone for several years to try to get it to thicken up there. This worked, to a point. My hair got thicker in the BSL-to-hip range over time, and I was a lot happier with how my braids looked. However, my ends were still pretty thin, whether I trimmed back to tailbone frequently or occasionally.

This last year, I've really tried to just leave my hair alone with minimal trimming. I wear my hair bunned or braided most of the time. My ends are now just about reaching classic after I wash it and quite thin. There's more fairytaling than I've seen in my hair for a while. However, I think my ends are thicker at tailbone now than they had been in the past. I've trimmed once slightly, and I plan to continue to let the hair grow with minimal trimming to see what happens. It's looking as though it will always have thin ends at these lengths, but I think that the thickness seems to trail a few inches higher for me. I won't have a blunt hemline, but I think I'll achieve longer lengths this way than if I do small trims regularly to try to keep the ends thicker.

Not everyone's hair works this way, but it seems like mine does.

Some Equisetum preparations are reported to have a high content of thiaminase, which may induce edema and cause lack of motor control (e.g., limb coordination), putting a person at risk of injury from falling; bradycardia (slowed heart-rate) and cardiac dysrhythmia are further negative side effects.[citation needed] Since horsetail contains nicotine, it is not recommended for young children.[25]

Oh, horsetail! Yeah, you can drink that as tea. I haven't tried it, but I've heard it has some internal hair benefits before. Just don't overdo it with such things and make sure whatever you take is safe at those doses.)

Yep, that. Seems scary enough. To me, at least. I'd be very cautious, but I'm sure you are! :flower:

I had the same issue with the elastic's mark on my ends, I think you could find useful to get a Paranda (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=91490)!
It's very protective, and gives some beautiful braid waves till the very ends of your hair.
You can make your own following this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORTatPrRWGk) video tutorial.

My hair spits elastics off, so I just use a piece of yarn to tie my braid.

Cristina, you have beautiful hair and the cut looks nice.

Happy growing everybody.

I'm not her, but she meant that instead of normal hair elastics/hair ties, she cuts a piece of yarn or a thicker thread (like embroidery floss, I assume), and uses that to tie off her braid. She feels they stay put better than normal hair elastics in her hair.

Great to hear you are now happier with your hair!

I understand your English just fine, don't worry about it. And the more you read and write, the easier it will become. You will soon learn the "hair language" that is often used here. I'm not a native English speaker either, and I know many of the words that are used here regularly were not ones I knew previously. They were not taught at my school English classes, because they are not words one uses or needs a lot in everyday life. But we learn as we practice, I promise!

Never be afraid to ask, and never be afraid to make mistakes. The most important thing is that we non-native speakers can communicate with others, not that we speak perfect school English.

I like your hair toy organizer! I'm not much help when it comes to hair styles for long hair, as I have never had hair as long as you. What I do see, is that you have lot of hair toys that look hair friendly (non damaging) which is great (A7, all the hair sticks and forks, B7, D4)! You also have enough decorative toys to keep your hairstyle interesting. You also seem to have some items for heatless curls (A6, C2), and with those clips (D11) you can do nice finger waves!

In the first picture your hair is gathered in the center and in the second it is spread across your back, which can make it look as if it is thinner. This is normal for some hair types and not necessarily a sign of damage or thin ends. I still think your hair looks great, but it's no fun not being happy with how it looks.

Have you ever thinking about microtrimming monthly?
I'm saying about 1cm (0.5inch) or so a month.
Yes, you won't gain lenght but i think you can gain density.
Did you read about cinnamon's hair story? Here: http://www.beyondclassiclength.com/longhairjourney.html
She starts with very tapered waist length hair and being microtrimming for some years she's now with knee length almost full ends hair...

Don't freak out, first of all. Hair lays differently every time you comb, wash, and take a picture. That doesn't mean it looks as awful as you think it does every time! You are being far too obsessive over all of this, IMMHO. Believe me! Take a deep breath, and take a step back, re-evaluate once you're calmer. Have a wash and take new pictures (for instance). It might all be different.

If you have enough patience microtrim your ends until they feel thicker, if you want to end things quickly do a big chop and get rid of what you don't like. But don't obsess over this like Lapushka said.
I see you love your long hair so I would say the best for you is microtrimming and maintaining, take care of your hair as best as possible and try to ignore it.

Wish you luck! :o

I take care of them.
Everything i do i do it thinking first about my hair.
EVERYTHING
i spend a lot of money since september 2010 for my hair.
I let them grow because i think they make me feel special, different...

... and every cm they grow, they are worse! They don't care about my attentions! They are even WORSE!!!!!!

I SHAME to show my hair to someone

To my eyes your hair looks really nice, long and pretty! I would definitely never think any negative about your hair, if I would see you on the street - you have really no need to feel ashamed about.

Some people are more likely to have very thick hair at the tips, with little taper. Some people are more likely to have more taper and thinner ends, which we call here "fairytale hair". Lovely name for a lovely look. This is because of how your genes are programmed (but ofcourse other things affect too). Lot of people prefere the fairytale ends and find them beautiful and worth to have. Unfortunately it's not always the same person who has the fairytale ends naturally. The length where the hair starts to fairytaling depends on genes (and health, etc).

Now sometimes the thinning of long hair is due to other, mechanical or health related things, to name a few. Your hair certainly does not look like you would be ill, so unless you see lot more shedding than normal, and/or thinning of the ponytail circumference, I wouldn't worry about that.

But mechanical damage can make ends thinner looking. (And this is just right forum to learn how to avoid it). Mechanical damage means that the hairs rub against something, wear down, break... Chairs, car seats, having your hair down often, getting it trapped between door, shoulder bag, etc... These are things than can be changed and the hair will start looking thicker with time.

And there was the keyword: time. Your hair is probably about 6 years old (maybe less, maybe more) at the tips. This means that it will take months and YEARS of care untill your tips will become thicker, if the cause of thinning is for example mechanical damage or something other which you have corrected while you have been learning things here at LHC.

If you hair is just genetically programmed to fairytale (and there is no damage or continuing mechanical damage, or nutritional or other health problems), I'm not sure if you will ever get super thick hemline. It sucks if you love the thick hemlines the most. Sometimes the hair we have isn't our dream hair, actually I think it rarely is. We just have to accept what we have and work with it. I'm not trying to encourage you, absolutely try the tips and care methods that are discussed here at LHC, and your hair might respond to them and you might start seeing some great results after few months. I am trying to put into words, that it is possible your hair will always start fairytale at that length, no matter what you do. If that's the case you just need to accept that.

With hair as long and pretty as yours you can be very happy with it, if you ask me! I wish you would see it in the same way others do!

. Having thick and wavy strands, when I get fairys my hair resemble tentacles to me, and I don't like the look of it.

Do we have the same hair?? I get those piecey, "tentacle" ends too, and I can't stand it. As much as I love HP Lovecraft and all his creations, they look sort of creepy to me.

To the OP: I also think that microtrimming may help you. My ends get thinner at TB, too, but my hair still continues to grow past that point, it just looks sparse on the ends. So, in December I cut off about an inch to an inch and a half to get slightly more blunt ends (after a couple years of just microtrims) and am now microtrimming a quarter inch each month. It's kind of a long journey but really helpful if you want to keep growing while gaining a thicker hemline.

Hello, friend. You are beautiful and your hair too. Just put it up for now since you are feeling angry. You can always cut it later if you are still not in love with your hair. Right now leave it alone. It may take years to get the long hair you want and a representation of you at your best. And you may need to accept that your long hair, your ends even, are healthy and beautiful just as they are. Once you know that they are healthy (as you have said they are), then just love them and keep going and growing and trimming as you see fit.

Please, don't take it badly, but I think you're obsessing yourself a bit too much.
Having long hair should be something that makes you happy, and you seem so frustrated to me about it...
I know how you feel because sometimes this happens to me too: I start to look at it in the mirror like 5-6 times a day and go up and down between excitement and depression because sometimes I think "wow, I have some really pretty hair!" and other times I'm like "Horrible, this is horrible, I can't stand with it, I'm going to cut it all off."
Just put it up and try to not look at it/take pictures of it so often. It is all in your head, your hair is really pretty and promising and there's really nothing wrong with it.
Patience is the only key to success in growing long hair.
Here we have a two weeks rule: when you're frustrated with your hair and feel the emotive urge to cut it, just wait for two weeks, and if you're still convinced that your hair needs a cut then go for it in small steps, cut just a bit, check the situation and decide if you want to cut more.
