Hi all! For quite some time, I have been using cheap $10 or $20 hair shears and replacing them quite often, because I find that sometimes while S&Ding, the hair will "bend" and the scissors won't make a clean cut through my hair. Soo, the scissors I have been using haven't been so great.. I am looking for some high-quality SHARP hair shears. I have read that Japanese shears are the best for S&D and trims. However, I have never bought "expensive" hair shears before, so I don't know exactly what to get! (Also, I am looking around the $30-$60 price range.) Does anyone have a specific brand or type that they use and recommend?

I found these 4 on Amazon and I was also wondering if anyone has tried any of these or which one of these would be the best for S&D purposes and trims. It's hard to decide since I've never purchased "high quality" hair shears before and due to some of these having mixed reviews!

Any help would be appreciated and I look forward to your responses! :blossom:

Definitely not the Razor Edge ones from the fourth link - they are blending shears.
Personally I'd probably prefer to buy from the drug store so I can inspect the edges in person, check for gaps etc.

I have "Ultron" shears, they are Japanese steel and basic pro hair cutting shears. They sell for around €50, but they're limited to Europe and the UK.

im the worst, using muji store cuticle scissors because my hair does not split, i just need to snip a few fairy knots out once in a while, thats my S&D. for trimms i had the same pair of cheap beauty supply scissors for year and although im aware they are not the sharpest i never had any problems with them.
if you want to go balls out with the price, look for japanese hikari brand scissors or thermo scissors that seal the ends while cutting.

My shears are by the German brand Cerena. They're hand-me-downs from my mom who used to be a hairdresser. She used them for quite some time and they're still nice and sharp. :)

does anybody believe too, that cutting dry hair leaves the ends nicer?
im always imaging how cutting a wet and mushy piece of wood would make it all uneven because it seperates easier and parts slip away. so i started cutting only dry hair, i feel like its also giving me more control of what i am doing, at least when my hair is perfectly straight, but thats a day when i sure have a few more minutes to trim my ends anyways.

I have the Toolworx PERSONA shears that I purchased at Ed Wyse, a US beauty store. They were around $60. but so worth it. (Also my Christmas present to myself that year) They also have the tightening screw. I showed them to my hairdresser at the time and she was impressed. Of course, HER scissors cost hundreds of dollars.

I have these ones: http://www.amazon.com/Fromm-Edge-Ahead-Unity-Shear/dp/B001DYFHZ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1423805180&sr=8-1&keywords=unity+hair+shears
Though I got mine at Sally's Beauty. They're great! Super sharp and the edge is lasting really well so far :)

I really like the Japanese style convex edge shears. Mine I can just barely feel them cutting. Keep them clean and oiled, both the pivot and the blades.

I have two pairs of Oster shears, one is straight and the other is curved. I prefer the curved ones for doing my bangs. They work well and hold their edge nicely.

Never used any of those quoted above. I used to use cheap ones just like you but quite honestly they kept going blunt after a few cuts. My hair is fairly thick and coarse Asian hair. My hairdresser (mobile) recommended I invest in a really good set and she pointed me to http://www.sakishears.com/shop/student-hair-shears which is what we use now for the whole family.
