I am really really intrigued by these forks. They are hand-painted in Ukraine. Being of Ukrainian background (and loving all things floral), I want to buy one so bad. But that is one severe head-curve. I'm not sure I could get it to work.

Any thoughts on that? I might get one to try anyway. It's not like they're super expensive.

Those are so pretty!

I do have a Crocket Mountain with a severe head curve... It's a two prong acrylic, and I use it for a modified LWB/nautilus bun. I start it off that way with the points facing away from the bun and do that grab hair, then flip the comb thing, to anchor it to one side of the bun, then insert, and when all done, it looks pretty good and holds LIKE A ROCK.

It's like the fork is really a bun cage, of sorts. The only part of the comb that winds up being covered is the middle, right over the center of the bun...

It can be done, but it takes a little patient practice.

BRB... I still have some birthday money to spend...

The head curve looks a lot like my new pin for french twists from elemiah delecto. I mean, its like the same amount. Maybe its made for french twists?
But I can wear the elemiah delecto in a gibson tuck also. so it not works going in horizontally but also vertically.
Anybody caves and have action shots yet?

Okay y'all, I bit the bullet and bought one with poppies on it, because poppies. I hope that the topper lays nice and flat against my head when I'll wear it. Or nice and round, more likely. So it fits under my hats when it's cold.

Will come back with review when it arrives.

Yes, pictures, please, because I'm a bit hesitant about the head curve and want to see what that looks like, and I do want to know if it's insertable like a regular fork, or if insertion will be problematic due to the curve of it.

I got mine in today! Only took 9 days, it's amazing how fast things get here from halfway around the world sometimes. My 3 year old took a pretty good picture for me but it is so dark I might have to wait until tomorrow when the sun is out. I have to tell you I'm pretty impressed. The head curve is not as severe as you would think but makes it so it is flush with your head which I think would be good for those of you with babes in arms. No pokey parts for snuggles. As pretty as it was in the picture and it holds really well. I just stuck it through a loose lazy wrap and it held solid through running around with little man.

Whoop! My package from Kievgiftshop arrived today! Excitement :D

What a cute fork I got! I am very happy with it. The tines are pretty wide set, and they taper outward a tiiiiiny bit. They are compact (not flat, like with Jeterforks but more rounded-off square) and they taper to a nice point, that is easy to insert. Since it's laquered it doesn't snag my rather fine hair, but just goes whoop! in. And it's not very small, either! I have plenty of tine sticking out, and since the tines are so wide (which is a design I am a fan of, admittedly) I think it can grab on to buns that are a lot wider (fatter, bigger, better filled, blessed in the keratine department) than mine.

And then, oh dear, the headcurve. Oh, that dreaded headcurve. That everyone was talking about.

Well, you know what? It doesn't hinder the functionality one bit! Hah! In fact I like how nice and round it stays to my head, even the top bit with the flowers. It hooks the outer loop of a center held bun nice to the scalp, and I think that on rainy days it's easier to wear a rain hood thing over this fork than over many others. (and also, flowers on a rainy day!) With insertion you just have to hold your hand at a different angle towards the bun to insert the tines. But you hav to do that anyway with different forks, because each maker has a different headcurve. In fact because the topper is so close to my head I feel less of the weight for some reason. Because I don't always like heavy forks. So: really like the shape!

As for the flower painting: Och.... that is just so sweet. It looks like it could have been lifted from some tiny box of which my grandma had a lot. She had a lot of flowery things in this style, probably because my granddad was a USSRophile. It's so simple and so complex at the same time! (with only a few brushstrokes it's a whole painting)

So, I say: Go forth, LHCers, and fear not the headcurve! Also this size is pretty okay for people with more hair than I have, I think only the hugehairs might have trouble. I have still plenty of room left to grow into this fork.

I also ordered something else, but upon arrival I decided that it might be a nice present for someone in the WinterSwap so sorry, ladies, no pictures of that yet! And I couldn't find a victim to make an action shot of me :( But, here is a comparison of several forks with headcurve.

http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu46/Marjokei/LHC/IMG_20150122_121751_zpsyjetl22x.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/Marjokei/media/LHC/IMG_20150122_121751_zpsyjetl22x.jpg.html)

Oh and I also got a small KIEV fridge magnet. Much nicer in person! If you plan to order from her and like fridge magnets, they are super shiny and really very good! Mine is gorgeoulsy green.

Will return later with action shots.

Ah, that bun? That was one of my cheating buns, to make my hair look bigger. I did a lazywrap, but like so:
You make a loop of your hair, right, and then you twist the lenght around the base of the loop? And then you pull the loop to the side, prich a fork in it, done. But, I didn't prick a fork in the center of the side loop, I stuck one prong through a little bit of the pulled-away loop and the other prong I muffled under the whole bun. That way, the pulled-aside loop plops back and it looks like the fork is inside.

.....It's also a bit of floop and poke and a good dose of luck, I'm afraid :taz:

And thanks for the love, all of you! It's really nice indeed that it hugs my head :inlove: Seriously like this fork, I'm wearing it now and it's pretty neat. Go, go, go forth ad buy one too! becuz I wanna see dem in your hairz

i can't use spin pins, my hair eats them and then i have to cut them out shudder: If i buy the prettiest one and it doesn't work i'll just pass it on to Stormynights! It's the head curve that's throwing me, i actually don't care if forks have a head curve or not and seeing as that one's kind of extreme it seems like i should be emphatically pro-head curve if i get one.

hi to Majorane's cat and Barkley (i used to work with a girl named Barkley and she had mental health issues, i hope that's only the case when humans are named that)! I'd want to see the tarantula!

Majorane
January 23rd, 2015, 11:11 AM
I feel as though I should subscribe to this thread just so I can read whatever Majorane is posting. Or, in this case...what her cat is posting.
Oh! And all this time I've deleted everything she typed up when she was hopping on my tablet... I'll ask her if she might have any deep thoughts again, when I get off from work. Meanwhile, why not look at this adorable photo of her?
http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu46/Marjokei/Smint_Bengi.jpg (http://s632.photobucket.com/user/Marjokei/media/Smint_Bengi.jpg.html)

I just hope her cat and my dog don't become friends. My dog does some typing but mostly he just scrolls to the bottom of the page because he reads faster than I do. I don't know how he does that though. I think his computer skills are better than mine.
Ah, yes, I know that one. I once found a document on an old laptop that was full of ffffffffffffggggggggggggggggggggggjfffffffffffffff fffff. Literally pages long. The only explanation I have is that someone sat with her butt on my keyboard for an hour and she saved it somehow. Amazing! Let's not introduce Bakrley and Bengi to each other, or they'll start typing to each other all the time and before you know it we'll need another computer for ourselves because they've become bffs.

But how else are you going to get to know each other?:puppykisses::rollin:
Ahahahaha I laughed so hard at this

I can know him just fine without that.
I laughed even harder at this :rollin:

i can't use spin pins, my hair eats them and then i have to cut them out shudder: If i buy the prettiest one and it doesn't work i'll just pass it on to Stormynights!

I'd put my tarantula on the keyboard and see what she has to say but i highly doubt anybody would want to see the picture i'd inevitably take of that!
Actually, as for the headcurve, I don't normally hugely prefer that over a straight one. I can work out both! But it's just that despite the headcurve it's still easy to use. As for your tarantula: ...ehm, yeah, if you give a warning beforehand so I'm prepared I'll happily look at pictures of him and admire how shiny it's fur is and such...? And that story of the spinpins is just horrible shudder:

Beautiful. I need one of these.

You do! You do! they would look marvellous in your pretty hair.

Ok! Netherlands is geographically closer, and it's only been 1 week. :) I guess if anything it is just the lack of update on the tracking number since the 21st (last time this happened, it was a lost parcel from India).
I'll be patient, I just can't wait!

DreamSheep, I ordered mine on 11th, it shipped on 12th and I received it on 24th - the tracking thinks it's still in Kiev

I can imagine that tracking parcels isn't top of the priority list in the Ukraine right now. Though maybe it's the UK post's fault.

Ok, so my worry about the fork may have been unfounded...

Seems like my boyfriend pigeon-hole swiped me earlier this week (he sometimes checks my postbox as he lives close to it and I live 30mins away from it so I can get my stuff), but forgot about it.

(conversation for entertainment value):
BF: Also, I have a package in my room for you. I picked it up from your pidge trying to be helpful, but then forgot to tell you... [Friend of ours] and I think it has a lot of stamps...
Me: Aww, thanks. I checked my pidge earlier, there was nothing. Where is it from?
BF: Yeah, I signed for this parcel on Tuesday i think...
Me: Where did it say it was from?
BF: Errmm I remember eastern Europe, which explained the gratuitous use of stamps
Me: Ok.
BF: I tried to be helpful...

As I don't remember anything else coming from Eastern Europe, I'm hoping it's my pretty! :)

Gaaaah frustration over photos! I swear with most hairtoys I snap 2-3 pics and choose the best.
I have shot over 30 pictures of this one, and it is definitely the camera settings I've chosen to compensate for the lack of light, but I only get out of focus and blurry pics... (+ another 20 worth on my phone and laptop, lol) :knuckle::taz::taz:
And the best pic (ie, the most crisp clear) is THIS one:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a134/magikspiffy/IMG_9516.jpg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/magikspiffy/media/IMG_9516.jpg.html)

Where is the fork?
Anyway, so here are my inferior quality photos of the fork.
Even my bun falls apart in frustration:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a134/magikspiffy/IMG_9525.jpg (http://s10.photobucket.com/user/magikspiffy/media/IMG_9525.jpg.html)

I swear the oil painting on it is NOT blurry. :) I realise I've been photospamming a little, but I'm so bad at choosing photos, specially when I feel they are all bad :(

Also, focusing camera with close-up glasses (I have two pairs) - not good!

...on the other hand, pictures of it aside, I do really like the fork. The headcurve is pretty nifty, although the texture of the fork is a bit rougher than what I am used to, presumably from the lacquer and the paint. Still, probably won't stop me from buying more. =)

I found it quite easy to put in last night, and for these pictures I did struggle more, it felt as though my hair doubled in size overnight (which it didn't, but it behaved that way). My hair does feel like it is slowly becoming a bit more indomitable =\ Naughty hair! Bad hair! I don't even know how you talk to hair to tame it.

I want to buy a fork in the same style as yours, DreamSheep! c: I was just wondering... Do you think I should get the 14 or 17 cm one? I normally try to buy a fork with 4,5" FPL, so I guess it's smarter to get the one you bought?

DreamSheep
February 1st, 2015, 12:31 PM
The FPL is 4.5'', or 6'' from tip to tip in a straight line.
I would definitely not go smaller - especially on the lacquered ones they feel a bit rougher so they may be harder to insert with more tines that are shorter (unless they are the unpainted woods - the white and black is all paint/lacquer :) ).
If you normally use 4.5'', I think you may be alright, but they do actually feel a bit longer due to the curve somehow, and the large topper. It does fit perfectly on the head.

I also appear to have defended both possibilities here, so I hope this helps. :)

Majorane
February 1st, 2015, 12:43 PM
Yeah I found that my twoprong gave a lot of possibilities for extra growth, it didn't seem like a fork that rounds its fpl down, so to speak. So, eh, well, not that that helps. Oh, and also the natural wood one I got was laquered... I don't have those insertion problems people speak of, though? I have that with my Jeter:couch: but not with this. Oh, I find it inserts fine (I have had snaggy sticks and I'm put off wearing them - not the case with this), it just feels different to what I'm used to. :) I guess I can't just push and expect it to go in, I need to maneouvre a little, but it isn't a hair destroyer - my fine strands testify to that!

I got them yesterday! Wow, they are spectacular. I'll post photos here in a bit. I'm really lax about this, but trying to get better...

DreamSheep, I got a four and a three prong. The four prong is listed as 1 cm shorter. When I hold them together, the tines are really just about the same, maybe 5 mm difference. I don't think the length makes any difference, really, as you get an extra prong for extra security!

Quasi, those white ones are so elegant! That's going to look great in your hair.

They aren't as smooth as say a 60th street, but that's fine by me. The really silky smooth finishes are more prone to slipping for me. I have really grabby hair, so if it has something to hold on to, we're good for an all day hold.

The little flowers are absolutely beautiful. She does a really nice job with the decorations! I want more!

I saw these forks a while back and thought the artwork on them was gorgeous but decided to pass when I saw the head curve. It looked far too curved for my liking but as Marjorane pointed out this type of fork would be great for wearing under a hat. When I wear some other forks the ends sticking out making wearing hats look totally goofy and a bit uncomfortable so this would work great.
I happen to really like 60th street for their sleek appeal but they can be more like an acrylic fork and at times have too much slip.
Considering the craftsmanship of these forks, they are very reasonably priced.

Busy day so this must be quick! Just received a black lacquered three prong fork with red flowers and have mixed feelings. On the one hand I LOVE the head curve and the decoration. On the other hand the lacquering is rough on the ends of the tines (especially the middle one) and it had some snag issues when it arrived. I put it in and heard some hair breaking :disbelief I took it out and did some smoothing with some micro-mesh cloth and that seems to have improved the situation. The good news is that I can put it in a really loose bun because of the curve. All in all I like the decoration enough that I might consider ordering another but I'm hesitant given the quality of this one. BTW, the fork came well packed in a HUGE box with a complimentary magnet. In a way I hate to even write this mild complaint because there was such an obvious effort made to please but feel that I need to be honest so that the folks who are considering an order have accurate information.

The minicomb I got was not laquered and very smooth. Seriously.

And about the rough tines: Lunasea, it is what it is, if it broke a few hairs, you can say it here, right? Personally I found the finish about the same as on my one Jeter, not flawless but workable.... Maybe I had a better one, or I have a rough Jeter. Maybe if you politely let Olga know that there might be room for improvement in the smoothness department? If I were her, I'd like to know where my customers saw room for improvement.
Sorry you aren't stoked about the fork, I know what that feels like and it's such a dissapointment :(

Thanks Majorane. It wasn't a huge disappointment I love the decoration and the head curve. The package arrived when I was at work and I was pretty tired when I got home. Then, I got so excited I put the fork in without checking the tines...something I almost never do. When I heard the snapping I was upset that I didn't check. There were some tiny lumps of rough lacquer at the end of the tines that I was able to smooth out with the micro mesh without completely taking off the lacquer. There are larger waves along the lacquer on the middle tine but not the hair-eating type. I know lacquer can be hard to work with. I might drop Olga a line when I have time to word it properly. Overall, I think the fork is beautiful. I just wish I had checked before sticking it in my hair.

Hmm, kinda big, but here goes... :p
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=15862&d=1423672938

Wearing autumn colours today... Apparently I'm an autumn palette person; did several tests, but the whole thing still confuses me. x_x

Either way, I love it!! The fork came packed in a carton box... Then a prettier box... Then bubble wrapped... Then a plastic bag. It came packed really safely. :) For me the varnish isn't rough at all, it seems to have the same feel to it as a Jeterfork. I really like the head curve; makes it hug the head cosily and I can barely feel that the fork's there. It takes some getting used to, though. I'm used to stick straight forks, and you have to think a lil' differently while inserting this one into ze hair bun.

The two pronger seems ideal for my hair (a little grabby and pretty thick). I still want to try one with more prongs, to see the difference.
I don't know which one yet... I really like the poppies on black background (https://www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/204299179/wooden-bobby-pin-flowers-handmade). :3 ...And the blue flowers on black background (https://www.etsy.com/se-en/listing/204301591/wood-hair-pin-handmade-flowers-black). It looks lovely in your hair, Wosie, and I love how nice it looks with your green shirt, it's no the same green as in the fork but for some reason it DOES make the purple pop in a very nice way! Good score, it looks great.

I still haven't solved the mystery of my missing poppies fork, I suspect it might have fallen off the bed and one of the furrs knocked it under the bookshelvecasething. Or I groggily took it out and left it at a very easy t find place, like in the breadcoffinkeepthing (I don't eat bread much) or in my Italians'sock drawer. That sounds like something sleepy me would do. And yes I did check the fridge.

Very pretty, Ambrielle! How do you like the headcurve?

thank you :)

At first i was a little bit ...ermm intimidated by it? :D Even though i have a preference for curved forks and don't find straight ones as comfortable these have got a hell of a curve. If you are used to straight ones it may take a little bit of getting used to these but once it is in i find it very comfortable, it didn't snag any hairs either. I like how it lays flat against my head and stays there all day long (i have been wearing this one more often than any of my other forks lately), i also love how light it is compared to my solid wood (walnut and ebony) forks. I ordered one of their white with blue flowers recently and i am pretty sure i will eventually get a black with purple flowers in time :o

Oh boy oh boy oh boy am I tempted to get myself a second order.... I loooove those amazing red poppies on black, possibly even more than the poppies on wood I already have!
Of course, realistically speaking I don't need it and I'm in time-out until may or so. But I just love how they look! And I love my fork in general :D It eventually showed up, the kittens had hid it under the bookcase behind the photography encyclopaedia that was too large to go in the bookcase and was shoved under. But my trusty dustbunnies had kept it company, and all was well in the end.

I'm not usually a fan of fridge magnets, but the one I got from Olga is so shiny because of the green mirror glass and it makes me happy every time I open the freezer to get Il Italiano un gelato :D

You know when you look at something and you feel all pretty and happy inside? I feel that way about their forks just by looking at them, i think it's the traditional art so i totally get what you mean by the fridge magnet (okay i want ice cream now too!!! pistachio preferably :bunny:)

okay guys, you'll have to forgive my messy & poor bun skills, my hair has a mind of its own and unless i tame it with a bit of oil every other day it's very hard to get it to look decent in a bun :taz: i tried to compress as much as possible so the top of the fork would show.

i took a few photos of the white fork with the pretty blue flowers. Mine is the two prong version. i am mostly used to wear four prong forks. I honestly love both this one and the black/red poppies fork, they both hold my hair fairly well and despite my hair being a bit slippery due to the oil. I think in the future (and when my layers have grown out) i'll get another matching one of these and wear them across each other, maybe that would help distribute the weight of the bun also? These white/blue forks remind me of old tiles you'd see back in the 16th- 18th centuries and for some reason that makes me happy :)

My hair fork arrived today - bought Feb 1, arrived Feb 18, so not too bad for shipping from Ukraine to Georgia, US. She included a lovely Kiev magnet as a gift. I was so anxious to get the darn package open & there was sooo much tape, anyway I slipped with the scissors & stabbed my hand. dangit. yes - I do know better. but while waiting for the bleeding to stop, I watched some tutorials on youtube... Oh, hai there :grouphug: Yeah, you are right, in that expressing ones true feelings is not bad. I agree on the liberating aspect of getting mad, and getting into a fight, to clear the air and to let it all out... or in my case, assign scoop duty and steal away kittens. I have always been very good at expressing those feelings. Now I just have to practice more at, you know, expressing the mushy feelings IRL, because that ehm... I'm not so good at. I can act them out allright, but having to say "I love you"? I choke and gurgle if I have to say that sh*t. I'd much rather cook a nice meal, scoop the litter stray AND spray his side of the couch with catnip to show my appreciation.... Hm, might have to start working on the whole vulnerability issue :hmm

The three prong- and it arrived today!!! (unbelievable, it took only just over a week- so fast!!)

there it is- I really love it!
Well doesn't that just look gorgeous on you! Lovely.

Whut, I missed this! Here, a quote so it gets seen more. It needs to be seen. I LOVE how this looks in your beautiful silver hair! You chose so well, those dainty light colored flowers accent your haircolor! Awesome. It really goes together very well with your hair!

I'd much rather cook a nice meal, scoop the litter stray AND spray his side of the couch with catnip to show my appreciation.... you're too cute Majorane, i want to take you home with me. would you consider becoming one of my kitties? :grnbiggri:kitten: ( told you i was creepy :D ).
on a more serious note i totally understand, you remind me of a younger me. Yep, choking on those words oh gosh...i still don't know if i was afraid of being "exposed"/vulnerable (self defense mechanism?) or what else it was but now that i come to think of it i do seem to take words seriously, i used to get annoyed with people who'd spit them out carelessly, i mean when it was not in accordance with the truth in their hearts but nowdays i understand why they do it. I believe actions, gestures, hugs can speak truer and louder than a thousand words at times by the way so whatever way you chose to convey your love i am sure is understood by your other half if he knows you well enough :)

mine arrived!! and It's very similar to Caraid's. However it took almost 3 weeks to arrive.

I'll try to get a good action shot today. I just washed my hair. I really love it. I REALLY love the head curve. I'm trying really hard to convince myself that I don't need a brown 4 prong. :lala:

Caraid and Majorane - Thank you for your kind comments. it looks much better with my purple sweater, but red is what I was wearing the day it arrived.

I love that it works with my mini-bun without having pointy ends sticking out. I was so happy & excited to wear my new hair fork to work, that I totally forgot makeup. ah well, I can only do one thing at a time :-) It held nicely all day! :joy:

It's here! Was a little strange to insert (for me... I haven't worn a three prong fork in a good long while and typically have ill luck with forks). I love it! So light and comfy!

I received my second order last Monday. These are definitely my favorite forks. I wish I could afford one of those beautiful shirts. If she ever puts up something smaller, maybe handkerchiefs or some other small embroidery item (especially floral!) I'll be sold! Lol a poppy kerchief to match my fork!

schnibbles, Wow... wow-wow-wow. Wow! :thud: What a magnificent picture--hair, fork and surroundings! The fork looks so very good on you (and now I need a blue one as well :p)!

Edit: Aww, there are no more forks of the same blue design in the shop anymore... *pouts* I hope there'll be more in the future.

Thanks wosie + stellaaa :D

@ wosie, I had to request the blue flowers from Olga. Took her about a week and she had one for me.
I'm sad to say this, but the tines are unfortunately too short for my stupid bun. They're buried somewhere over in the side of it that you can't see. I thought with the extreme headcurve (which is fantastic, really) the fork would snuggle itself around the bun, but it just can't reach. (I'd say it's about 4" functional. I usually use 5")
It's a beautiful fork though, I hope maybe someday I'll be able to get a longer one.
If anyone wants to buy it from me, send a PM.
(sad panda :panda: )

I'm sure she will happily take requests! :)
That said, she mentioned she is going on holiday, so she probably won't be able to do this until after she returns (says someone also guilty of placing requests... :p)

That looks so good on you, Kaelee. I think I bought the same one. It looked so classy in the shop. I also bought this beauty (https://www.etsy.com/nl/listing/231478526/natural-wooden-hairfork-with-geometric?ref=hp_mod_rf).

You lot enabled me. ;)

Here's a link to a webshop (http://kievgiftshop.com/) that appears to have everything on it- I have not tried ordering from it.
It still lists a link to her etsy shop.

I would be so sad if she closed up shop for good. :(
Her forks are awesome. I bought one for a friend and they were so happy.

She inspired me to embroider a vyshyvanka. I am finishing a rushnyk (Ukrainian towel) and have already the vyshyvanka sleeve out. I hope she stays open so that I can buy a hairfork to match my embroidered shirt.

There's a shop called PaintedDreamShop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/PaintedDreamShop) on Etsy that sells what look like the exact same forks. And it just opened last week. Maybe it's KievGiftShop under a different name...?
