I'm new to long hair -- I've only been growing mine out for about four years. I guess I've always had hair come out in the shower, during blow drying, etc. but I'm noticing it now. When I run my fingers through my hair, I often get two or three strands in my hands. When I shower, I get kind of a wad. The (gross -- sorry!) picture below is all the loss I get in shampooing, conditioning, and drying it afterward. I shampoo about every two days. I don't see any bald patches or anything, and I can't think of what might cause something like this, but it's started to make me nervous. So, please help! Is this normal shedding? Or something I should worry about?

Thanks so much.

That looks like a pretty small shed for shampooing, conditioning, AND drying, to be honest. As long as you don't see an overall thinning of your hair or any bald patched it's okay. Your hair looks very thick at the scalp :)

That looks like pretty normal shedding to me. It could be one of a couple reasons why you're only noticing it now.
1. It's seasonal, as a lot of us tend to shed more in fall/winter.
2. The wad looks bigger because your hair is longer. It curls into itself and looks like more hair than it really is.
3. erm, amnesia? LOL.

As long as you aren't balding or experiencing any health problems that could be causing it, I'd say you have no reason to worry. :)

the average person sheds around 100 strands a day

Oh, so that's the hair you lose after both showering and brushing it afterwards? ...I think I lose up to three times as much on my wash days (every three days) and my hair's thickness stays the same. Nothing to worry about, not at all. =)

I think that looks like nothin....I bet there aren't 20 hairs in that little wad :) And you have beautiful, shiny hair BTW!

Pfff that's nothing. I get two sinks full after a wash (I don't detangle during the week, though).
