unless it's your first time doing it on yourself. Then proceed with being deliriously happy that it's actually staying put! :cheese:

Well....it's the first attempt that actually stayed in! I keep forgetting to pull pieces from the sides (obviously!).
Thanks about the shine!

No matter how long or short my tassel is, it curls. I kinda like it, too. :p
I refuse to use any hairspray to get it to hold and I was beginning to think it just wasn't possible!
I will, addy! :D

Yes - I must say that my eyes are very untrained - braid wise. It's obvioulsy a fairly good attempt for your first time. Keep practising on and and you'll have it down in no time.

I would have been deliriously happy if my first attempt had been that good too! Keep plugging away and it will be perfect before you know it. :)

Your hair site was one of the first ones that I looked at, FrannyG. I can only hope that they will someday look like yours!

I don't know what you're talking about. It looks great, especially for a first attempt. :) I mean, you got all the hair in. I still miss strands of hair here and there (embarrassing if I don't notice until I've left the house).
And that shine! Wow

I agree I think it looks pretty darn good for your first try. Your hair is beautiful :)

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b300/cutter_106/grins/smileykickdirt.gif Well, yeah, I guess I do get all of the strands in eventually, my problem seems to be remembering to do it every time! Thanks, AnneAdeline and Tennessee Girl!

Har! The ones that didn't quite make prime time either fell out before I could find a camera or I wore to the beach and blamed the mess on the wind!
Unique works for me, thank you kindly, spidermom!

Great first try. My first Dutch braid came out Belgian.

 I think it looks great, Elphie! It looks MUCH better than my first 10 attempts! :flowers:

Elphie it looks great! You've got such pretty hair that a little oops in the styling doesn't make too much of a difference. With a little practice you're going to be sporting quite the style!

Wow... I keep trying & trying to french braid my own hair and I haven't got it anywhere near that good yet, if thats your first attempt you'll be an expert at it in no time I'm sure.

I think it looks just fine, especially for a first attempt. It's one of those things that you really have to get in your fingers to do well, and that takes time. Besides, who'd notice the braid with the beautiful condition of your hair??? It's GLEAMING and I don't see any breakage!

Looks like you got the technique down, now it can only get better and better. :)
I have such a horrid time trying to do one myself. I suppose I could try, but I give up after the first couple attempts.

Speedbump, surely there is a group named "the updotarded perspective", where do I sign up?
Thanks, teacherbear, btw, I do believe those are my shoes! (Elphie is short for Elphaba)
Ah, gumball, I'll be thrilled if it looks half as good as the one in your signature!
Thank you, thestorm, truth be told, I even slept with it and only lost a small piece. Victory is mine at last!
It's amazing how my mind understands what to do yet my fingers don't always cooperate, arctic mama!
This is where you wind up, Shanarana, if you had a parent and a sibling who were both hairdressers! They would just take over and I never had much of a reason to learn to do it myself. Don't give up!

I think it's a wonderful french braid. And your hair is so nice and smooth and shiny!!

I have much better luck overall when I do it when my hair is wet. It basically convinces my hair that it indeed does want to stay up. Other than that, my hair isn't very good soldiers, they go AWOL every chance they get. *pppf* outta my eyes you!
Elphie
September 29th, 2008, 05:08 PM
Hmmm, wet you say? I'll give that a go, maybe it will be easier, I've always practiced with damp or dry hair. Thanks auntbeast!

The first (and so far only) French braid I ever did came out looking like Chernobyl
