View Full Version : Got over my fear of salons PICS (color cut BLOW OUT and style! oh my..)

I wanted ombre but realized it was just gonna be impossible to get the balayage look I wanted in the back by myself. So I researched salons and color specialists and actually found one about 40 mins from me. Their online port was amazing and had a whole section of beautiful color melts, ombres and balayage. I called and was quoted 85-150 and got an appt the next day with one of the 3 stylists Colton.

I was nervous and excited. My hair was a level 10 blonde. Over processed but still in decent condition thanks to me knowing how to care for it. Anyway he listened to what I wanted and I showed him pics. He then brought out the color book (first time without me having to ask!) And let ME choose a color. He did suggest a nuetral and a level, which I agreed with and showed me 3 or 4. Then he told me to pick my ideal blonde level for me ends and front. I voiced some concern about putting lightener of my already lightened hair and he assured me he was using a gently product with a low developer and only leaving it on for a few minutes. I felt totally comfortable as he applied the color and lightener, watching him work it was clearly art to him and not just slapping on some color. After I was washed he blew it dry (he cuts dry which I prefer) I didn't even feel panicked as he blew it out. He was so gentle I never felt a comb get snagged or a hair get caught or felt the heat of the dryer. Anyway after it was dry he cut off an inch which took him about 30 seconds and styled. He used a lot if heat protectant and worked super quick with a flat iron and a marcel iron (which I just learned to use in school so watching how QUICK he was ....pretty amazing). Colton told me he was a hair stylist and did weddings, so that was kinda his thing.

My hair looked WOW!!! I never use heat but I figured this was a special occasion (the last time was my friends wedding in July) I felt so gorgeous and the color was just amazing. The pics don't do it justice. I felt so comfortable and at ease at the salon. Colton really respects hair and he's just amazing at what he does. IF anyone in Pittsburgh needs a referral.... :)

It came to 100 for all of that. He didn't charge for every little spray of product or try to sell me a million things. I tipped him 30 and would have paid 150 plus tip if it came to that!

Ok so pics....

It's much prettier in person! I totally got honked at the minuted I walked out of the salon which made me feel like a million bucks! LOL Oh and I never mentioned I was in school for cosmetology except to the assistant because it came out that she graduated from the school I'm in.
Thats one reason I want to be a stylist....I want to help people get over fears and know that there are people that love your hair as much as you do!!
Anyway, thanks for reading!

Just had to add my two cents that your hair looks so beautiful! It looks so natural and not obvious! (Also, you look really beautiful in those photos! You should feel really good- go show your new hair off!)

I remember you had dyed your hair red in the past! I loved how it looked on you and went for the plunge myself, but I used henna instead. Anyway, I love how your hair and it looks amazing! Glad to hear the stylist listened to you and everything went well.

I enjoyed reading your story and seeing your pictures very much! I thought you looked super in the first photo too, but the end result ones are really a Piece of art, very angelic natural blonde, superb! It doesn't hurt to see it matched with a face like yours, you are a whole package, for sure!

Now THAT is worthy of getting honked at! I'd love to be a stylist, but California's cosmetology laws are weird.
